At this moment, the lizard mutant seemed to have regained some of its strength. It suddenly made a move that completely caught Lynn and Mark off guard. It lashed out with its tail, sending Lynn flying. Lynn landed on the ground, coughing painfully a few times, but quickly forced himself to his feet. He knew he had to remain calm; any mistake could lead to even more serious consequences.

The lizard mutant quickly turned to Mark, its massive body almost obscuring his view. A resolute glint flashed in Mark's eyes, and without hesitation, he fired again at the lizard mutant. This time, the bullet struck its shoulder hard, but the blood from the wound did not stop its attack; instead, it made it even more frenzied.

"Lynn!" Mark shouted, "Its defenses are too strong! We must find its weakness!"

Lynn took a deep breath, his sharp eyes scanning every movement of the lizard mutant. "Its belly is its weak point, concentrate your attacks there!" Lynn shouted, a decisive glint in his eyes.

Mark immediately understood Lynn's meaning, and the two quickly adjusted their tactics, focusing their attack on the lizard mutant's abdomen. The lizard mutant seemed to sense their intentions, letting out an angry, low growl and violently sweeping its tail to try and stop them from getting closer.

However, Lynn and Mark were already prepared. They split into two groups and attacked from different directions, trying to avoid the lizard mutant's tail. Finally, Lynn accurately fired a special armor-piercing bullet into its abdomen, the force of the explosion causing the lizard mutant to let out a deafening scream.

The lizard mutant struggled violently, clearly severely injured. Lynn and Mark didn't stop; they quickly moved forward and launched another precise attack on its abdomen. Finally, under the continuous high-pressure attacks, the lizard mutant could no longer hold on and collapsed to the ground.

The two men, panting heavily, exchanged a glance, their faces showing both exhaustion and joy. The battle had been arduous, but they had finally defeated this behemoth.

“It’s finally over.” Mark wiped the sweat from his forehead, his voice tinged with exhaustion. “But Scott… is still on the run.”

Lynn stared coldly at the fallen lizard mutant. "Don't rush, our pursuit is far from over."

Lynn and Mark stood in the dimly lit warehouse, facing the subdued lizard mutant. The lizard was clearly badly injured; it lay panting on the ground, its body no longer as powerful, and its tail and claws no longer threatening as the attack had ceased. Lynn quickly approached it, a calm resolve flashing in his eyes.

“Stop playing dead.” Lynn’s voice was cold and direct. He bent down, grabbed the lizard mutant by the neck, and forced it to raise its head. “You promised me you would tell me everything.”

The lizard mutant raised his head, his face contorted in pain, but he didn't immediately resist. A complex emotion flickered in his eyes, particularly evident to Lynn. The lizard mutant's breathing gradually stabilized, as if he had given up on the idea of escape. He spoke slowly, his voice low and slightly hoarse.

"What...what do you want to know?" Its voice was weary, clearly indicating that it had stopped struggling.

Lynn pressed it to the ground, increasing the pressure. "Tell me, when did you first contact Scott? Who do you work for, and what's the deal behind it?"

The lizard mutant closed his eyes, seemingly gathering his thoughts. After a few seconds, he said in a low voice, "I... I was just an ordinary office worker. I worked as a clerk for five years, earning a pitifully low salary, and my family was burdened with debt. My mother got sick, and I simply couldn't continue like this." He paused, a flicker of pain in his eyes. "At that time, I saw a job opportunity online, a mission to protect some wealthy people. Initially, I only took on some simple tasks, helping out with odd jobs, and the pay was decent. Later, I learned about Scott and realized that I was doing protection missions for him."

"A protection mission?" Lynn frowned.

“Yes, protection.” The lizard mutant exhaled and continued, “Scott is extremely capable. I know he has a very special mission that requires help. His request was simple: to keep it a secret and to protect his personal safety.”

“Why would you work for him?” Mark stepped forward, his brow furrowed deeply. “Why would an ordinary person like you want to be a bodyguard for a mutant?”

The lizard mutant lowered his head, his voice filled with helplessness and bitterness: "I have no choice. I owe a lot of money. The debts at home are suffocating me, and my mother is still in the hospital. I have no choice. Scott gave me enough money to pay off the debts and even make my family's life better if I became his bodyguard. I thought I was just doing an ordinary job, but gradually I found that things had become far beyond my control."

Lynn's gaze deepened. "You mean, you know more things you shouldn't know?"

The lizard mutant nodded, his expression pained. "Yes, the more I know, the more terrified I become. What Scott has done is far beyond my imagination. I know he's not just protecting himself; he's involved in illegal biological research, even genetic mutation experiments. I didn't intend to continue, but I'm already trapped in this vortex, unable to escape."

Lynn didn't respond immediately, lowering his head in thought. The lizard mutant's words exploded in his mind like a bomb. Scott wasn't just a simple fugitive; he seemed more like someone orchestrating some kind of dark experiment behind the scenes. Those genetic mutations might be the core of the Obsidian Corporation. Lynn instinctively clenched his fists, a surge of intense anger rising within him.

“Tell me, where is Scott? Where is he planning to escape to?” Lynn asked in a threatening tone.

The lizard mutant gritted his teeth, clearly unwilling to say anything more, a flicker of fear in his eyes. "I... I don't know his exact location, but I know he's preparing to move. He'll contact outside forces through some special channels, and a vehicle will come to pick him up soon and take him away from here."

“The car? Do you know when?” Mark pressed.

The lizard mutant raised his head, his eyes filled with struggle, as if making a final decision. "I don't know the exact time, but it's probably tonight. Scott plans to go outside through the underground passage; there's a secret helipad there."

Lynn was silent for a moment, then suddenly stood up. “If you have family, you’d better call them and tell them to stay away from these places. You’ve been caught in a dangerous situation, and things aren’t as simple as you think.” He paused, then turned to Mark and said, “We have to go there and stop Scott from escaping.”

A complex emotion flickered in the lizard mutant's eyes, suggesting lingering inner turmoil. He said nothing more, only lowering his head and letting out a deep sigh. "I'm just an ordinary person; I have no power to resist these things." Lynn didn't waste any more time. He quickly gestured for Mark to follow. The two passed through the warehouse and quickly reached the outside. The neon lights and traffic on the street were still bustling, but in Lynn's mind, time seemed to stretch out infinitely. He knew that if Scott truly escaped, the conspiracy behind it would be even more difficult to trace, and might even cause immeasurable damage to the entire city.

“Mark, we need to speed things up,” Lynn said firmly.

Mark nodded and walked ahead without hesitation. They quickly traversed the city streets, passing through several gated areas, finally arriving at the industrial zone. Lynn and Mark knew that all of Scott's secrets were hidden there. The underground tunnels, the helipad, and the deep connections with the Obsidian Corporation—all the mysteries might be revealed at that moment.

As they drew closer to their destination, Lynn felt a growing sense of urgency. Time seemed to be flying by. They had to get there before Scott and stop all his plans.

Upon reaching the entrance to the underground passage, Lynn gestured for Mark to go first. Their steps became extra cautious, trying to avoid being noticed by anyone. However, the instant they entered the passage, Lynn's ears caught the sound of footsteps ahead—the roar of a heavy vehicle, indicating that a car was approaching their route.

"He's here!" Lynn whispered, his face turning extremely serious. "Quickly!"

Without hesitation, Mark immediately took the lead and quickened his pace. The two swiftly passed through the dark passageway and arrived at a dimly lit helipad. Several private planes were parked there silently, the surrounding environment deserted, seemingly completely unknown to the outside world. Lynn stared intently at his surroundings, his heart pounding—they had reached their destination.

“We need to find Scott quickly.” Lynn quickly scanned his surroundings, his eyes becoming alert.

Suddenly, a black van sped onto the tarmac. The door opened, and Scott jumped out, followed by several men dressed in black. He glanced around, as if checking for safety. Lynn immediately moved to a corner, preparing to launch an attack.

"Get in the car! Hurry up!" Scott commanded coldly, then walked towards the plane on the other side of the tarmac. The men in black followed closely behind, clearly providing Scott with final protection for his escape.

"We can't let him get away!" Lynn said through gritted teeth, bursting out of his hiding place and quickly approaching Scott.

Just then, Scott suddenly turned around, a cold smile flashing in his eyes. "You think you can stop me?"

As soon as those words were spoken, Lynn suddenly felt a powerful gust of air sweep over him, and the air instantly became extremely heavy. Scott's mutant ability erupted once again—he had to escape!

Almost the instant Scott turned around, Lynn sensed the unusual airflow. The mutant's power surged towards him again, the air seemed to distort, and a powerful suction emanated from Scott. Without hesitation, Lynn quickly retreated, shouting, "Mark, watch out!"

Mark sensed the danger and reacted quickly, immediately hiding behind a nearby car to avoid Scott's attack. However, Lynn felt an immense pressure bearing down on him; his body seemed bound by an invisible force, making it almost impossible for him to move. He clenched his teeth and struggled desperately, but the force grew stronger and stronger, almost crushing him.

“You can’t stop me!” Scott’s voice was deep and cold. His figure gradually blended into the surrounding darkness, as if merging with the air, becoming blurred, leaving only the intense energy fluctuations. Lynn knew that Scott had activated his teleportation ability again, and this time, it seemed to be more than just a simple spatial distortion; the entire air was bending under his power.

Just as Lynn felt completely trapped, Mark stood up from behind the car, aimed in Scott's direction, and decisively opened fire. Several bullets pierced the air, rapidly heading towards Scott's figure. Although Scott's figure flickered and disappeared again, the bullet trajectories remained unchanged, still accurately hitting the spot where he vanished. Mark's firing slightly reduced the distortion in the air, temporarily forcing Scott's abilities to be interrupted.

“Lynn, quick! He’s moving! He’s about to leave!” Mark shouted.

Lynn gritted his teeth, forcefully breaking free from his restraints, and charged forward. His goal was clear: he had to find Scott as soon as possible and not let him escape. Mark quickly followed, and the two worked in close coordination, almost instantly reaching the other side of the tarmac.

At that moment, Scott appeared beside a private jet on the tarmac. He quickly entered the cabin and ordered his bodyguards to get to work. Lynn saw this and his heart tightened. He knew that if Scott boarded the plane, everything would be over, and the pursuit would become almost impossible.

"Quick!" Lynn shouted, leading Mark to quickly approach the plane. The cabin door slowly closed, and the wings began to move, clearly preparing for takeoff.

“You’re too late,” Scott’s voice came from inside the plane, tinged with disdain. “I’m already ready to leave, and nobody can stop me.”

Lynn and Mark were less than ten meters from the plane's door. Almost at the same moment, they saw Scott standing by the gangway, his arm waving slightly, and once again a strange fluctuation filled the air.

"Don't let him escape!" Lynn mustered his last bit of strength and lunged forward.

Mark followed closely behind, drawing his gun without hesitation and firing at the plane's engines. Several bullets flew rapidly, striking the engine cover. However, the plane's defenses were extremely strong, and the bullets caused no real damage. The engines continued to roar, the cabin doors were almost completely closed, and the plane was ready to take off at any moment.

As the plane was about to take off, Lynn didn't hesitate and sprinted towards it with all his might. He knew that if he didn't grab Scott before takeoff, all his efforts would be in vain. Just as the cabin door was about to close completely, Lynn leaped up, hooking one hand onto the gangway and gripping the fuselage tightly with the other.

"Lynn!" Mark called urgently from behind, "Quick, get out of there! You'll fall!" (End of Chapter)
