Chapter 297 This guy is really tough to deal with!
Without hesitation, he quickly moved in that direction, trying to make as little noise as possible. Scott entered the warehouse, clearly not finding Lynn. Lynn silently followed, his anxiety growing stronger. He had to seize this opportunity to expose everything Scott had done.
The warehouse was dimly lit, and the air was thick with the smell of dust. Lynn gently pushed open a door and saw Scott talking to several men dressed in black. These men didn't look like ordinary workers; they exuded a dangerous aura. A sense of foreboding instantly washed over Lynn. He crept closer, pressing his ear against the door, trying to overhear their conversation.
“Continue shipping the goods, everything is proceeding according to plan. We need more genetic samples, time is running out.” Scott’s voice was low and cold.
“Yes, sir,” a voice replied.
Lynn abruptly pulled his ear back, a huge wave of emotion surging within him. Genetic samples? What did this mean? Scott and these people were discussing more than just ordinary transactions; it was clearly a larger conspiracy involving mutants.
He had no time to think further and immediately pulled out his phone to contact Mark. "Mark, we've found Scott. He's trading gene samples with some people from the Obsidian Group. It's all related to mutant experiments."
Lynn and Mark's heavy, rapid footsteps echoed through the warehouse's dark corridors. Neither spoke, a tense atmosphere hanging in the air, as if something was about to happen. The conversation they'd overheard in the room had made Lynn's heart grow heavier. Genetic samples? This meant that Obsidian Corporation wasn't just engaged in illegal trade, but might also be involved in mutant experiments, or even something far more terrifying like a biological weapons program.
Their plan was to approach Scott silently, ensuring they didn't alert him, and then subdue him by surprise. But things didn't go as smoothly as they had anticipated. Scott, the mysterious mutant, was far more powerful than Lynn and Mark had imagined.
They moved to a secluded corner of the warehouse, and through the window, Lynn saw Scott standing in front of several Obsidian Group members, speaking in hushed tones. Several men in black surrounded him, apparently encircling some boxes filled with unidentified items; the whole scene was filled with a dangerous atmosphere.
“Mark, are we ready?” Lynn asked in a low voice, his eyes fixed on Scott’s figure.
Mark nodded, his hand gripping the gun handle tightly, his face expressionless. "I'm ready, just give me a signal."
Lynn took a deep breath, and after confirming that there were no other threats around, he quickly gave Mark a look, signaling that they could proceed.
The two moved silently through the dark corridor, approaching the area where Scott was. Scott and the members of the Obsidian Group seemed unaware of their approach; the warehouse was unusually quiet except for the sounds of machinery and whispered conversations.
Just as Lynn and Mark were almost within striking distance, Scott suddenly whirled around, his gaze sweeping rapidly across the surroundings as if sensing something amiss. His eyes were sharp, as if he had noticed something. Lynn's heart pounded, and time seemed to freeze in that instant.
"Quick!" Lynn whispered, and almost instantly, Mark drew his gun and fired at Scott.
Gunshots rang out in the warehouse, echoing through the silent air and breaking the brief tranquility. Scott dodged Mark's shot in the blink of an eye; his movements were swift and precise, as if he had a complete grasp of his surroundings. Lynn immediately rushed forward, intending to seize the opportunity to subdue Scott at close range. However, just as he approached, Scott's body emitted a faint glow once more.
Lynn felt the air distorted by a powerful force, and his body was suddenly pushed away by an irresistible force. Almost instantly, his back slammed into a cold metal pillar, and pain instantly spread throughout his body. His vision began to blur, and his head spun.
"Damn it!" Lynn gritted his teeth, trying his best to steady himself. When he looked up, Scott had already disappeared into thin air.
He scrambled to his feet, his eyes darting around. He saw Scott standing a dozen meters away, a cold smile playing on his lips. "You're too slow," Scott said in a low, mocking voice.
“He’s using spatial distortion,” Mark shouted, his face grim as he appeared to recover faster than Lynn. “We need to be careful; he can not only teleport, but also manipulate the space around him.”
Lynn didn't answer. He knew Mark was right; Scott's abilities were far more complex than they had anticipated. Even among mutants, Scott's abilities were extraordinary. If they continued to fight head-on, they simply couldn't win.
“Lynn, he’s playing us.” Mark’s voice suddenly rose. “If we keep dragging this out, he’ll just keep toying with us.”
Lynn took a deep breath, enduring the excruciating pain in his body, his eyes fixed on Scott. "We can't let him continue to escape; we must catch him as soon as possible."
Scott seemed to be deliberately stalling for time, smiling at the two men as if savoring his victory. "You think you can subdue me? You don't understand at all. Mutants are not someone you can handle."
This time, Lynn and Mark didn't act rashly, but reacted quickly. Lynn gritted his teeth, quickly drew his pistol, and aimed it at Scott again. Mark also adjusted his posture, preparing to continue providing cover.
However, Scott seemed to sense their movements and suddenly vanished into thin air. Lynn barely had time to react before he heard a loud tearing sound—Scott pounced from the side, so fast that Lynn could barely react.
"An unseen attack!" Lynn dodged almost instinctively, rolling to the side to avoid Scott's sudden attack.
Scott reappeared before Lynn, a mocking sneer in his eyes. "You're too slow, Lynn," he said dismissively. "Even fully armed, you're useless."
Lynn's eyes were filled with rage, but he didn't make a move. Although he and Mark were both under immense pressure, Lynn couldn't afford to fail. He knew this wasn't just a simple chase; it concerned the safety of the entire city.
“Mark, get ready,” Lynn whispered.
Mark nodded quickly, his gun still pointed at Scott, showing no sign of letting his guard down. The two worked together, slowly closing in on Scott, trying to force him to reveal a weakness.
Scott's eyes narrowed, as if realizing they wouldn't give up easily; a cold glint flashed in them. "You think you can catch me in this city?" Scott said, his body emitting another burst of distorted light, preparing to disappear again.
Lynn pulled the trigger almost without hesitation, the bullet flying precisely towards Scott. Just as the bullet was about to hit, Scott dodged again. However, this time, Lynn didn't stop. His eyes were fixed on the spot where Scott had disappeared, and he quickly ran in that direction. Mark followed closely behind. Although they both knew that Scott's teleportation ability couldn't be easily stopped, they still pursued him relentlessly, determined not to let him escape again.
Just as they rushed into another warehouse area, Scott finally appeared, standing in a corner, seemingly waiting for them with some patience.
“You still can’t catch me,” Scott sneered, his tone full of provocation. His gaze was cold and ruthless, as if he didn’t consider Lynn and Mark as opponents at all.
Lynn fired again almost without hesitation, but this time, Scott did not dodge. He swung his arm, distorting the space in the air once more, the powerful force forcing Lynn's bullet off target. Then, Scott leaped forward quickly, a ball of light flashing in his hand, seemingly intending to deliver a fatal blow.
"Get out of the way!" Mark yelled, suddenly rushing towards Scott and shoving Lynn aside. Mark's movements were so fast that Lynn barely had time to react.
Scott's attack struck Mark, the force of which sent Mark crashing to the ground, groaning in pain. A flicker of panic crossed Lynn's eyes; he immediately rushed over and helped Mark up.
“Mark!” Lynn whispered, his heart filled with unease.
Mark gripped Lynn's shoulders tightly, struggling to keep his balance. His voice remained firm, "Quick, grab him. He can't possibly escape anymore."
Lynn looked up at Scott, his eyes filled with determination. "Today, all of this must end."
"Keep chasing!" Lynn growled, his gaze fixed firmly ahead. Mark followed closely behind, their steps perfectly synchronized. The shadows of the entire warehouse district stretched their shadows long, and the surroundings were silent except for the distant sounds of machinery and the occasional roar of a vehicle engine.
They traversed corridor after corridor, their pursuit undiminished. Suddenly, Lynn sensed a powerful presence approaching from the side, as if something was stealthily drawing near. He abruptly waved his hand, signaling Mark to stop. The two held their breath, their ears acutely listening to the sounds around them.
Mark frowned and said in a low voice, "I sense... something's wrong."
Before Lynn could respond, a series of rapid footsteps shattered the silence. A massive lizard-like creature leaped out from the side and pounced on them. Lynn had no time to react; the lizard mutant was already upon him, its claws gleaming coldly, seemingly ready to tear Lynn apart in an instant.
Lynn quickly retreated, drew his gun, aimed at the monster, and pulled the trigger. However, the lizard mutant reacted extremely quickly, nimbly twisting its body to dodge Lynn's bullet. The gunshot rang out, the bullet piercing the silence, but it did not hit its mark.
"Looks like today isn't my luckiest day," Lynn said through gritted teeth, readjusting his weapon.
The lizard mutant let out a low growl and suddenly launched its attack. Its body moved like a gust of wind, instantly lunging at Lynn, its sharp claws almost striking his chest. Lynn nimbly dodged, leaping a few steps to the side, but the lizard mutant followed closely, quickly pursuing him, leaving only a blurry shadow behind him.
Mark reacted immediately, drawing his pistol and opening fire on the monster. His marksmanship was precise, with almost every bullet hitting its target. However, the lizard mutant was exceptionally resilient; although the bullets struck its back, they did not cause fatal damage, instead enraging it even more.
“Its skin is too thick; bullets can’t penetrate it!” Mark shouted.
Lynn swiftly dodged the lizard mutant's attack, his eyes sharp. "We need to find a way to subdue it, not fight it head-on."
The lizard mutant clearly sensed their tactical change and attacked even more fiercely. It swung its razor-sharp claws, slashing at Lynn and Mark again and again with such speed that it put immense pressure on both of them.
Lynn's eyes quickly scanned his surroundings. He noticed a gasoline can on a nearby shelf, and a sudden inspiration struck him. He decided to use the objects in his environment to fight back. He rushed to the shelf, used it as leverage to climb over a pile of boxes above, and quickly grabbed the gasoline can.
"Mark, cover me!" Lynn whispered the order.
Without hesitation, Mark immediately drew the lizard mutant's attention with his gun, firing several shots in quick succession. The lizard mutant was hit by the bullets and paused briefly, but then let out an angry roar and pounced on Mark. Taking advantage of this opening, Lynn quickly opened a gasoline can and poured it in the direction the lizard mutant was charging.
He seized the opportunity to pull out a match from behind him, and in an instant, a raging fire engulfed the lizard mutant.
A deafening explosion followed by a burst of flames seemed to compress the air inside the warehouse. The lizard mutant let out a painful howl as it was engulfed in flames. However, its skin and strength were exceptionally resilient, and the flames did not completely defeat it, only causing it to stagger back a few steps in agony.
"This guy... is really tough to deal with!" Lynn couldn't help but curse. He knew that these methods alone were not enough to completely subdue the lizard mutant.
The lizard mutant angrily thrashed its body, breaking free from the flames. Its skin began to ripple violently, seemingly adapting to the pain from the fire. Lynn and Mark gave it no chance to catch its breath, quickly separating and surrounding it from different directions.
Mark stood to one side, pulled out a special high-pressure gas cylinder from the corner, pressed the button, and a burst of air shot out, rapidly increasing the attack range. The power of the airflow forced the lizard mutant back a few steps again, but it maintained its attack stance, staring at the two as if unafraid of any challenge.
“We need to be more strategic; we can’t keep fighting head-on!” Lynn’s breathing was rapid, his eyes revealing anxiety. “Its durability is too high; we can’t keep fighting like this!”
Mark nodded, realizing the situation was becoming increasingly difficult. "I understand, we need to find a breakthrough quickly." (End of Chapter)
