Chapter 270 This world has been running away from its destined punishment for far too long!
Rebel Knight World - Dallowa
This is a world of knights who betrayed the empire since the Great Rebellion.
With Horus's defeat, and the loyalists beginning their purge of the entire galaxy, primarily composed of the most well-organized Ultramarines, this group of knights and nobles chose to flee back to their homeland.
They leveled prosperous cities, squeezed the minerals from the earth's strata, built fortresses on rugged mountains and steep highlands, and fortified the planet for a long time to come, in an attempt to escape the empire's punishment.
Meanwhile, Dalowa's satellite Omega 3 was gifted to an unknown cult called the Dark Machine Cult. They formed an alliance with the Mandrak family and have been supplying the knight family with resources for thousands of years, becoming closely bound together under the threat of the Empire.
Fortunately, the empire's punishment did not come.
It was as if the dense cluster of asteroids surrounding the planet had truly served its purpose, and the planet was as if forgotten by the Empire until the Great Rift opened in the future, the galaxy was split in two, and the Nokmond Corridor unfolded, at which point the planet was finally exposed to the Empire's view.
At this point in time, only time travelers know the importance of this world.
But what is coming will come.
Boom!
The heavy steel gates began to slowly close under the impetus of ancient magic. The power of the warp traveled along the grooves in the walls and the ground, forming a closed energy cycle to completely isolate the nightmarish world outside.
There was no sound of the captain of the guard's roar, no sound of the dying man's wails, and no sound of the howls and roars of the false emperor's lackeys.
All sounds were swallowed up the moment the doors closed, leaving only the dull metallic clanging echoing through the corridor.
Although everyone knew this was only a temporary respite, the survivors involuntarily loosened their clenched fists, and some even collapsed to their knees as if exhausted, their trembling breaths condensing into white mist inside their cold helmets.
The voice of the family servant was exceptionally clear in the silence:
"Your Excellency, the passage has been sealed off, and those lackeys of the false emperor should not be able to break through in a short time."
The viscount who was casting the spell slowly turned around and glanced at his loyal servant.
Compared to his disheveled guards, his body showed few signs of battle, and the laser rifle hanging from his arm by a strap was fully charged.
"Ah."
His pale face was made to look ghostly by the dark blue runes.
A few wisps of blue flame suddenly shot out from the cracks in the ground. Some of the accompanying servants and family attendants fell like puppets with broken strings. Their souls transformed into transparent humanoid figures that screamed and howled, and were swallowed up by the twisted reliefs on the gate in a silent shriek.
The faint echo also disappeared.
Then the viscount glanced out the window and said:
"Come with me."
At this very moment, the fortified city belonging to the Mandekel family was engulfed in flames.
The knight mechs staggered through the collapsing spires, their adamantine shells colliding with unfamiliar Imperial knight weapons, creating blinding sparks, and each fall caused the earth to tremble.
Above the sky, fragments of an asteroid, disturbed by orbital bombardment, plummeted into the atmosphere, leaving molten trails.
Nearby, the fortress area, now free from the protection of the Void Shield, had been transformed into a molten pool of flowing iron. Crimson molten metal meandered along the street's crevices, engulfing fleeing figures in the heat.
The attack from the Empire has been going on for over a month.
It is clear to the naked eye that the world will soon be conquered by the empire.
The viscount's slender fingers gripped the gold-trimmed collar of his magnificent robe, pulling it even tighter to conceal the deformed tendrils that were faintly visible beneath the sleeves.
She walked briskly at the head of the fleeing group, leading them forward, her eyes filled with confusion.
Just a month ago, she was still fighting with rival nobles over trivial matters, but now she has to face the most dire situation ever.
A fleet, massive even by the standards of the Great Crusades, suddenly appeared in the orbit of Darova. When those towering ships cast a shadow of death, the world had already lost ninety percent of its defenses. The once impregnable fortresses were rendered useless by the Astartes' breach and the intense orbital bombardment, and the remaining defenders couldn't even muster a semblance of resistance.
A host of questions flared in her mind. Long before the High King chose to respond to the invitation of the Dark Mechanicus due to some kind of inspiration, her premonition gave her a sense of foreboding.
Sure enough, after the High King and his entourage were somehow summoned and departed along with the Dark Mechanicus fleet, the Imperial fleet followed suit.
why?
The viscount lowered his brows and quickened his pace.
Wow!
A massive tremor struck, and the roof beams, supported by heavy pillars, collapsed in an instant, burying a large area.
It's a Knight.
A knight, seemingly intact, lay sprawled at the edge of the fortress, its cockpit riddled with gaping holes, the edges of which were covered in some kind of viscous, writhing, dark red tissue.
This made the Viscount's brow twitch again, and he quickly erected a psionic shield to prevent his fragile body from being destroyed by the rubble.
A muffled thud came from ahead as a driven slave collapsed, his third limb limply hanging down.
He was badly injured.
"Take it with you."
The viscount gave a signal, and his private guards grabbed the slave laborer and began running alongside the group. Ignoring the laborer's cries of pain, they injected him with a drug that blocked blood circulation in his lower limbs and dragged him forward.
These are extraordinary times, and every offering is extremely precious.
She must travel to the High Throne and use the ancestral artifacts there to initiate a ritual, opening a portal to escape.
The High King and High Queen were summoned and left; she needed to pass on this message to her family elders.
Besides magic, she also stationed a large number of trustworthy guards around her, and she also had a considerable stockpile of mechs. It was because of this that she was able to hold on until now.
The viscount couldn't help but show a look of regret when he thought of the knights and mechs that had fallen in the flames of war.
She had finally managed to obtain all of this after taking advantage of the High King's absence and eliminating several hostile factions, but now it's all destroyed!
It's such a coincidence.
Fortunately, she was cautious enough and had made preparations well in advance.
The viscount unconsciously revealed a proud expression.
Just as she was able to rise above the infighting of the aristocracy in the past, she was never short of plans.
The plans for victory, the plans for escape, the plans for battle, and even the demonic engines and chaotic creations currently resisting those space wolves in the outside world—all are masterpieces she foresaw in advance.
This meticulously planned scheme was enough for her to react to any unforeseen circumstances.
Now, run!
As long as you're alive, there's still hope!
boom!
A metallic shriek echoed from deep within the fortress, as tons of defensive fortifications were torn apart like paper.
The roar of slingshots mingled with the screams of fleeing soldiers, and the sound of footsteps crashing against the walls of the corridor was chaotic.
"This world has been running away from its destined punishment for far too long!"
