Chapter 366 Guanyin Bodhisattva's Buddhist Heart Broken

Chapter 366 Guanyin Bodhisattva's Buddhist Heart Broken

At this moment, Guanyin Bodhisattva's crystal-clear Buddha heart was vibrating loudly. This was clearly a Buddha child descended from the Pure Land, the one she was guiding to be reborn.

How come he doesn't resemble a monk at all, but rather a corrupt nobleman?
"Never mind, it doesn't matter. He still has a great affinity with Buddhism. As the saying goes, the general trend remains unchanged, but the minor trend can be changed. Isn't my purpose in coming here to give him a helping hand?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva quickly calmed down and decided to proceed according to the original plan.

Just as Guanyin Bodhisattva looked at Chen Jiangliu, Chen Jiangliu also turned his gaze to Guanyin Bodhisattva's face.

His eyes widened in surprise, and he murmured, “This bald-headed monk always seems to be looking at me through a fog. Strange, strange, but I feel like he has a special interest in me.”

"Well, according to Father, it seems he's trying to trick me."

Thinking of this, Chen Jiangliu couldn't help but feel a sense of vigilance.

It turns out that Guanyin Bodhisattva came here to deliver treasures, spread Buddhist teachings, and also to trick Chen Jiangliu into joining the Western Buddhist family.

Therefore, he first transformed into a scabies-like figure, barefoot and bald, wearing tattered clothes, looking ugly and destitute.

Moreover, Guanyin Bodhisattva, holding a brocade robe of rare treasures and a nine-ringed staff, walked down the street. His face was ugly, but he carried great treasures. For a moment, all the passers-by couldn't help but look at him.

Guanyin Bodhisattva, however, saw no one else but Chen Jiangliu, thinking to herself, "This shouldn't be. Chen Jiangliu has a great affinity with Buddhism and should be attracted here."

At this time, there was a monk in the crowd who was not famous in Chang'an for his profound Buddhist teachings, but rather for his greed for money, and thus had a bad reputation.

At this moment, his eyes lit up even more at the sight of the treasure, and he rushed forward to ask, "Hey, you bald monk, how much silver do you want for this robe?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva, her eyes devoid of sorrow or joy, saw through the monk's true nature at a glance, knowing he valued wealth more than Buddhism, and thus said:

"The cassock is worth five thousand taels, and the staff is worth two thousand taels."

Guanyin Bodhisattva was certain that the monk would not buy them; he didn't have the money. Looking around Chang'an, there weren't many people who could afford to spend seven thousand taels of silver to buy two Buddhist treasures.

Although these two Buddhist treasures are indeed priceless, how can ignorant people know that there is a mountain of treasures in front of them?
However, Guanyin Bodhisattva did not consider what would happen if a wealthy patron really spent lavishly. Besides, she was not made of clay; she had plenty of strength and means.

The monk's expression changed. Practicing Buddhism was just a hobby; greed was his true nature. How could he bear to part with such an outrageous demand from this man?

Buddha wouldn't truly favor him, but money could certainly make his life comfortable.

The monk immediately pointed at Guanyin and loudly sneered:
"Where did this madman and fool come from! These two crude items are selling for seven thousand taels of silver? Unless wearing them grants immortality or makes one a Buddha, they're definitely not worth that much!"

Guanyin Bodhisattva smiled calmly, ignored her, and continued walking forward to find her destined person. Meanwhile, people on the street were spreading the word that she dared to sell her robe and staff for seven thousand taels of silver.

Guanyin Bodhisattva ignored her and walked towards Chen Jiangliu. However, the faster she walked, the faster Chen Jiangliu ran, as if he was deliberately avoiding her.

She chased, he ran, and her veins bulged.

Even with Guanyin Bodhisattva's gentle nature, she was quite depressed at this moment, and her vows were surging within her. She was not prepared to waste any more time and wanted to form a connection with her destined person.

As the power of their will seemed to work, the pedestrians made way for him, and someone further ahead blocked Chen Jiangliu's way out, leaving him with no way to avoid it.

Suddenly, a person with a peaceful face blocked the way in front of Guanyin Bodhisattva. The person smiled and said, "This kasaya looks very good. How much do you want?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva saw that Chen Jiangliu was only a few steps away from her, but was blocked by this person. Her heart felt as if it was being scratched by a cat's claws.

But then she thought, why not take this opportunity to promote the wonders of the object in her hand?

She said, "The cassock will cost five thousand taels, and the staff will cost two thousand taels."

The man laughed and said, "Such a high price, is there something special about it?"

"The kasaya has both advantages and disadvantages."

"tell me the story."

Guanyin Bodhisattva looked at the person in front of her with surprise, thinking to herself that this person was an excellent straight man.

He continued, "This robe, if draped in a single strand by a dragon, will protect it from being devoured by a roc; if draped in a single thread by a crane, it will grant it the wondrous power of transcending the mortal realm and attaining sainthood. Wherever one sits, ten thousand gods will pay homage; wherever one moves, seven Buddhas will accompany one..."

"Wearing my robe, one will not fall into depravity, nor descend into hell, nor suffer evil calamities, nor encounter the calamities of tigers and wolves. This is the benefit."

However, if the person wearing the kasaya is a foolish monk who is greedy and lewd, a monk who does not observe fasting and abstinence, or an ordinary person who destroys scriptures and slanders the Buddha, then it is difficult for them to see my kasaya. This is not a good thing.

The man was none other than Gu Ming, who had changed his appearance. He saw Guanyin Bodhisattva praising the kasaya to the skies, calling it unparalleled in the world, and couldn't help but scoff inwardly.

He even had a wicked thought: if he made Guanyin Bodhisattva wear this robe, he would slap her and see if the Bodhisattva would go to hell to see Ksitigarbha.

For no apparent reason, a chill suddenly ran through the Bodhisattva's heart, as if a great calamity was about to befall her. At her level, the ability to sense things was not an empty phrase; she was already able to foresee fortune and misfortune in the unseen realm.

Instantly, Guanyin Bodhisattva broke out in a cold sweat, thinking to herself, "Who in the whole world dares to plot against me? My status is almost second only to the Tathagata Buddha, and I am on par with the Buddha."

"Northern Continent of Lu, the Heavenly Court, Taoism, or...?!"

This chilling feeling came and went quickly, making Guanyin Bodhisattva almost think it was an illusion, but she knew it wasn't!
I need to arrange things for Chen Jiangliu as soon as possible; I must go back and report to the Buddha.

Guanyin Bodhisattva thought to herself, and seeing that Chen Jiangliu, finding the path blocked, had turned his gaze here, she knew that Chen Jiangliu had become interested. This was a good opportunity to promote her product. Setting aside her distracting thoughts, she continued:
"And my robe has parts that require payment and parts that do not."

“If you do not follow the Buddha’s teachings, do not respect the Three Jewels, and force me to sell your robes and staff, I will definitely sell them for seven thousand taels of silver. This is what it means to ask for money!”

Those passersby who had heard of it before were shocked to hear it now, saying that the leper monk had gone mad with poverty. Chen Jiangliu also turned his gaze to it again.

He always felt that the leper monk was not simple, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Moreover, the person in front of the leper monk always gave him a sense of closeness and trust.

Seeing Chen Jiangliu's thoughtful expression, Guanyin Bodhisattva was delighted. She was about to say something like, "This robe of mine is only given to those with a predestined affinity."

Before he could even speak, Gu Ming's eyes lit up, and he clapped his hands and laughed, "Brilliant! I happen to disregard Buddhist teachings and the Three Jewels, so I'm quite envious of this treasure. It's only seven thousand taels, I'll take it!"

Guanyin Bodhisattva's expression froze for a moment, and she looked at Gu Ming with a "you're kidding me" look. No, seven thousand taels, someone actually bought it?

And to her face, he said he didn't follow Buddhist teachings and didn't respect the Three Jewels. Is that polite?

Guanyin Bodhisattva's lips twitched as she said, "You jest, benefactor. I haven't seen seven thousand taels of silver. I can't expect you to get something for nothing. Besides, this treasure isn't something you can buy just because you have money; it's about fate."

Before he finished speaking, a series of clapping sounds were heard. It was Gu Ming clapping his hands. A group of servants suddenly appeared behind him, carrying two boxes. When they opened them, they were surprised to find a golden treasure inside.

Gu Ming laughed and said, "How could that be? I'm not one to buy on credit. I have nearly a thousand catties of gold here, which should be more than enough to exchange for your treasures."

Everyone around was dumbfounded. Is it reasonable for someone to be carrying thousands of kilograms of gold while shopping?
Even the Bodhisattva Guanyin, whose heart is as pure as Bodhi, was speechless. She hadn't expected that this person was so rich, and that he carried money with him all the time!

She forced a smile and said, "Even if you obtain this treasure, it will be of no use to you. Rather than letting it gather dust on the shelf, I'd rather wait for it to find someone destined to possess it."

Before he could finish speaking, Gu Ming interrupted, saying:
“What kind of talk is this? You said that if one does not respect the Buddha and the Three Jewels, one can buy it with seven thousand taels of silver. Now you have seen my sincerity. Do you think a monk would lie?”

"Besides, I enjoy seeing treasures covered in dust, so what's wrong with that?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva was speechless, and she was quite angry. As Guanyin Bodhisattva, one of the Three Saints of the West, even a group of immortals and Buddhas could not make her lose face.

But now, she has been humiliated by a mere mortal. This Buddhist treasure is meant to be given to Chen Jiangliu so that he can embark on a journey to the West, subdue the Monkey King, and bring Mahayana Buddhism to the East. It must not be allowed to fall into the hands of anyone else.

The moment the thought arises, Guanyin Bodhisattva manifests her divine power, causing the person before her to back down in the face of difficulty.

"Hmph, you are so rude! You disturb my peace of mind and disrupt my Buddhist practice!"

As soon as he spoke, auspicious clouds gathered and auspicious light shone brightly. A female immortal appeared amidst the nine-colored light.

The person wore a golden-leaf-buttoned hat with emerald flowers, a plain blue robe, a bright moon pearl hanging on his chest, an ice silk thread tied around his waist, and held a precious bottle for bestowing grace and saving the world in his hands, with a sprig of blue sky inserted in the bottle.

He then flew into the high platform, rode on auspicious clouds all the way to the ninth heaven, revealed his original form as the Savior from Suffering, and looked down at the world with a compassionate expression.

"Guanyin Bodhisattva! It's a Bodhisattva!"

"Immortal! This is an immortal! Please, Guanyin Bodhisattva, protect my family!"

In an instant, the entire city of Chang'an was in an uproar. Countless people knelt down in devout worship. On the vast street, only two people stood: Gu Ming and Chen Jiangliu.

Even the servant who had originally brought Gu Ming was now secretly tugging at Gu Ming's clothes and whispering, "Master, hurry up and kneel down, this is Guanyin Bodhisattva."

Seeing this, Chen Jiangliu remained expressionless. He was blessed with a great affinity with Buddhism and had been nurtured by Gu Ming, so he was naturally calm even if the sky were to fall. Moreover, seeing Guanyin Bodhisattva high in the heavens, he felt not inferior at all, but instead felt boundless pride.

"Now that I think about it, Guanyin's repeated visits to me were clearly part of a scheme. I learned the arts passed down from my father since I was a child."
My father had always warned me not to reveal my abilities, lest he harm me. Therefore, I didn't know if I would be a match for Guanyin.

As Chen Jiangliu's thoughts raced, he became even more wary of Guanyin Bodhisattva. This was because Gu Ming had influenced him since childhood, teaching him that the actions of deities were often calculated, which made him wary.

Gu Ming swatted the servant's hand away, looked up at Guanyin Bodhisattva in the sky, and laughed, "Eh? It's actually a Bodhisattva. Does even a Bodhisattva have to become a person who breaks their promise?"

"Namo Amitabha."

Guanyin Bodhisattva uttered a Buddhist chant and said:

“This precious gift of mine has come here not for money, but only for those with affinity. It is only for those who respect the Three Jewels, rejoice in good deeds, and take refuge in the Buddha. Only such people can bear this gift.”

"Hehe, so it turns out that what the Bodhisattva said earlier about being able to buy something for seven thousand taels of silver was all a lie. It turns out that even the Bodhisattva can lie. How ridiculous that I always thought that all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats in Buddhism had great virtues."

But now it seems, if even the Bodhisattva is like this, then the rest of us are even more laughable.

Gu Ming was not afraid at all and said with a cold laugh.

This caused the surrounding people to be both surprised and frightened, but upon closer reflection, it made perfect sense. They were immediately agitated, as if the perfect gods and Buddhas in heaven had been marred by a slight imperfection in their hearts.

Guanyin silently chanted Buddhist mantras, taking in all the expressions on the faces and thoughts of the people on Chang'an Street, and immediately looked at Gu Ming with vigilance.

Something's off about this person. Today's events are too coincidental, and given her personality, she would never reveal her true form before things are done. Yet, she just had the idea of revealing her true form to intimidate others.

Now look what's happened; they're reaping what they sowed, and have even tarnished the reputation of Buddhism.

He then looked at Chen Jiangliu and saw that Chen Jiangliu also had a look of disdain on his face, as if he was indeed disappointed by the Buddhist sect's nonsense.

"Namo Amitabha Buddha, benefactor, you are unreasonable and it seems you had this planned in advance. These two items are for those with affinity."
"Entering the Buddhist order to travel to the Great Thunderclap Temple in the Western Paradise to obtain Mahayana Buddhist teachings, thereby enabling one to attain enlightenment, guide the deceased to heaven, and liberate those in distress from suffering."

Gu Ming couldn't stand these words. They kept talking about compassion, but it turned out that there were many demons at the foot of Mount Ling!
Childhood traumas often take a lifetime to heal. In short, when Gu Ming first arrived in this world, he lived in constant fear and apprehension under the shadow of Buddhism.

In his eyes, the Buddhist sect was simply a bald-headed gang: if you were weak, they would fight you with fists; if you were strong, they would reason with you.

In short, he had absolutely no liking for Buddhism, and the same went for Chen Jiangliu.

Upon hearing this, Chen Jiangliu recalled Guanyin Bodhisattva's previous actions and realized that the other party had designs on him. He immediately felt uneasy.

He had no intention of going to a Buddhist monastery; he still needed to carry on the Chen family line.

In his view, entering the Buddhist order was like falling into a huge pit, spending his days eating vegetarian food and chanting Buddhist prayers, a life utterly meaningless.

Therefore, Chen Jiangliu spoke at this moment:
"How ridiculous! If you are a Bodhisattva of Buddhism, why don't you bring the Mahayana Buddhist teachings to guide people in the world? Instead, you seek out so-called destined people and break your promises with a series of lies!"

Guanyin's vision went black immediately. He wouldn't care if others said these words, but Chen Jiangliu's words were definitely not right!
There's something fishy going on, there must be something fishy going on. Someone must not want to see Buddhism become powerful, but we've clearly already reached an agreement!
I fuck him... Namo Amitabha Buddha, my apologies, I almost lost my temper.
