Chapter 25 Jane: A Cat and a Mouse with Nowhere to Escape

Chapter 25 Cat and Mouse—Jane, with Nowhere to Escape

"We're doomed! Brother, our rope net number has been stolen. What if they expose our identities?" Ling grabbed Zhe's shoulder anxiously, her delicate face filled with tension.

The two had already received a mocking phone call from the hacker. Zhe glanced silently at Fairy, who was feigning death, then helplessly pulled out his phone and dialed the police station. "Beep beep beep!"

The phone was answered after ringing a few times, and a mature woman's voice came through. "Hello! Janus, this is the police station. This is Officer Zhu Yuan. How can I help you?"

After gesturing for Ling to be quiet, Zhe said, "Hello, Sheriff Zhu Yuan, I am Zhe, the manager of the video store on Sixth Street. I want to report that we have discovered the exact location of the legendary master craftsman Phaethon."

"Creak!" On the other end of the phone, Zhu Yuan, who was sitting at her desk, immediately stood up upon hearing this. Her tone became a few degrees louder: "Okay, we'll send someone over right away to thank you for your report. If the situation is true, the banner will be delivered to the store next week."

After speaking, Zhu Yuan ignored the surprised looks from those around her and strode away from the office area. Soon, more than a dozen police cars pulled up in front of the gate, and dozens of police officers in combat uniforms stood in two neat rows in front of the cars.

Zhu Yuan stood solemnly at the entrance of the Public Security Bureau and addressed the crowd before her: "Our objective this time is to capture the legendary master craftsman Faetong. He may have already sensed something, so we must catch him before he escapes."

After saying that, Zhu Yuan waved her hand and said, "Let's go!" Dozens of police officers got into the police cars next to them. Everyone in the cars looked ready for battle, making each breath heavy.

…………

Fifteenth Street at dusk
"Ding-dong~" The bell hanging on the door was pushed from the inside, and a man and a woman walked out of the clothing store. Ming Che looked at the Yan Que in front of him, who was as exquisite as a doll, and nodded with great appreciation. Ming Che bent down and reached out to stroke the top of Yan Que's head.

"Go to Grandma Shen's house first. If you have any problems, contact me through this." After saying that, Ming Che took out a dragon-shaped earphone from his pocket and handed it to Yan Que.

Yan Que obediently accepted it and gave Ming Che a sweet smile. "Okay, brother." After saying that, she turned around and walked happily towards Sixth Street. Ming Che withdrew his hand and stood up straight again.

His gaze followed the direction Yan Que had left, and the scene in the hollow replayed in his mind.

In memory...

Mingche extended his hand to Yanque, who was sitting on the ground, and said, "Let me introduce myself. My name is Mingche. From now on, I will be your older brother." Yanque murmured the word "older brother" softly, and then saw Mingche's yellow dragon eyes.

Yan Que looked at the young man before her and felt a strange sensation, as if he were truly her older brother. Finally, she made up her mind and grabbed Ming Che's hand. She smiled and said, "Hello, brother. My name is Yan Que. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Mingche still remembers the look in Yanque's eyes when she called out "Brother" with great excitement and determination, as if a lone bird had finally found its sustenance.

"Beep beep beep beep!" Just as Ming Che turned to leave, his phone vibrated and rang inside his clothes. Ming Che took out his phone, glanced at the person who had come, and swiped his index finger to answer the call.

"Hey, what's up, Uncle? Calling so late?" Uncle's concerned inquiry came from the other end of the line: "Mingche, it's so late, where are you? Do you want me to come pick you up?"

Ming Che looked up at the gradually darkening night sky in the distance. He then looked away, listening to his father's concerned words on the phone. A warm feeling welled up inside him, and he softly replied, "It's alright, Dad, I'm fine."

Seemingly sensing something, Ming Che hung up the phone and quickly turned to look at a small alley behind him. A nimble black shadow vanished into the darkness in the blink of an eye. Ming Che frowned in confusion, a barely perceptible chill flashing in his yellow dragon eyes. Ming Che stared in the direction the shadow had gone, a slight smile playing on his lips, revealing a chilling aura. "Beep beep!" Just then, a car drove past Ming Che, and the next second, Ming Che's figure disappeared.

"Huh? Am I seeing things? I clearly saw someone behind me just now. Did I see wrong?" The driver of the car glanced at the rearview mirror out of the corner of his eye and found that the spot where Ming Che had been standing was empty.

…………

"Drip-drip." Sewage dripped continuously from an old drainpipe. "Squeak squeak squeak!" Several rats foraged in the abandoned garbage heap. "Tap tap tap!" Footsteps approached from afar, and a graceful figure was stretched long by the streetlight.

A slender tail swayed slightly behind her, and the woman gently twirled a specially made small weapon on her right index finger. She stopped beside the garbage heap, turned around, and said, "You really surprised me~" Her alluring voice sounded particularly abrupt in the quiet alley.

As the woman finished speaking, the alley fell silent again. It was as if she had been talking to thin air, which seemed quite comical. The woman paused for a few seconds in surprise, then said with some regret, "Oh dear~ it seems the handsome young man doesn't want to have a proper chat with me."

"Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!" As if sensing something, the rats in the garbage heap began to scurry away. The woman smiled wickedly and slowly tightened her grip on the weapon in her hand, the tip of her slender tail suddenly snapping out a cross-shaped blade.

"Whoosh~" A gentle breeze brushed against the woman's hair from behind. "Hmph! Got you." "Whoosh!" The woman quickly turned around and lunged backward, her tail stabbing behind her.

Just as the woman thought her attack was sure to hit, and was secretly lamenting Ming Che's lack of skill, her weapon failed to react at all. Only then did she realize that the weapon in her hand had disappeared without a trace.

"Are you looking for this?" The woman looked in the direction of the voice and saw Ming Che standing on a street lamp, fiddling with his weapon. Ming Che imitated the woman's gesture of spinning the weapon and began to slowly try to spin it himself.

The woman showed no emotional reaction, simply silently raising Ming Che's threat level a few levels. She thought to herself, "Zhu Yuan, this is really a troublesome task for me."

After several failed attempts, Ming Che calmly crushed it into a lump of scrap metal. Under the woman's shocked gaze, the air in Ming Che's hand gradually rose, within just a few seconds.

A specially crafted weapon transformed into a ball of boiling molten iron, flowing through his fingers to the ground. "Sizzle!" The boiling molten iron sizzled on the ground. Ming Che opened his palm, showing the woman his perfectly intact hand.

Seeing this, the woman no longer hesitated and retreated silently. A hint of contempt flashed in Ming Che's eyes. He pointed towards the spot where the woman had retreated, and the Trapped Dragon Town firmly bound the woman. The woman tried to break free by attacking the chains.

"If I were you, I would never even think of destroying it." The woman paused in her actions, turned around in confusion to look at Ming Che, who was slowly walking towards her, as if he could see the confusion in her eyes.

Ming Che casually picked up an unwanted aluminum can from the ground and, under the woman's astonished gaze, threw it toward the chain. "Tsk tsk tsk!" The moment the can touched the chain, the deflated can was instantly torn to shreds.

The woman stared at the shards of aluminum cans on the ground, her beautiful eyes filled with shock. A hint of relief mingled with the shock; thankfully, she hadn't tried to break the Dragon-Trapping Formation in the first place.

"Alright, now we can talk about why you were following me." The woman looked up at Ming Che, who had already come up in front of her, her face showing no panic but an alluring smile.

"Young man, what do you want from me? Why don't you untie this so we can communicate better?" The woman's voice, which would make any man blush and his heart race, had no effect on Ming Che.
