Chapter 576 When the Enemy Doesn't Move, I Move Randomly
When Edgar asked the question, the soldier boy did not give a direct answer, but changed the subject and said, "I've got a price list. I still have six old teammates left, and I'll kill six of them for you."
“There are five left, but you still have to help me deal with six people—” Edgar corrected, “Many people except for Xuanse have run away, but I had someone intercept the gunpowder for you in advance.”
“Oh, gunpowder.” The soldier boy sneered. “When he was fighting alongside us, he was just a nobody with only superpowers. The bullets he used were only strong enough to deal with ordinary people. They were barely enough to tickle even the weakest superhuman.”
"He pretended to be on good terms with me in the team, but when those bastards made their move, he did nothing and even helped kill Mallory's men so that I could be taken away by the Russians—what a bastard."
"As you said, bullets are useless against superhumans."
Edgar took out his phone and handed it to the soldier boy: "I had a credible superhuman blow his head off. This is his body."
"That guy looked disgusting when he exploded," the soldier boy glanced at the picture on his phone. "His head was gone, how am I supposed to be sure it was him?"
"There was also a video attached to my phone, and I didn't throw away his body—"
"Alright, alright." The soldier boy waved his hand casually: "It's a huge hassle. If he's not dead, I can just chase after him and kill him again."
However, he was already fairly certain that Edgar was not lying to him, and that his current words were merely empty rhetoric.
Another reason was to cover up his embarrassment at not knowing how to use a smartphone—as Edgar said, decades have passed, and he has really become quite out of touch with the world.
"Who else did you help me kill?"
"The others are all very clever, and they're fast enough, so I guess I can only leave it to you."
"Taking the least risk to gain the easiest favors, Edgar, you dogs in suits and ties, you're still as cunning as ever, and your methods are still as disgusting as ever."
Edgar smiled but didn't say anything.
"But guess what? Today I was walking down the street and I found that you bunch of bastards are the only things I recognize now—I even saw two men holding hands in broad daylight. Fuck modern society, fuck awakened culture, it's all disgusting words I don't understand. In the past, people like this would have been like rats in the gutter, unable to see the light of day, but now they can actually sit at the table and eat."
The soldier boy vented for a couple of minutes, then seemed to realize that his rambling made him look like a sissy, so he immediately stopped talking.
“Take me to find Xuanse,” he said coldly. “I don’t have that much time to waste.”
"of course."
Edgar reached out and gently knocked on the car window. The driver, who had been standing quietly beside the car, immediately opened the door and got back inside.
"Where to?" he asked succinctly.
Edgar handed over a note.
"understood."
The car started moving immediately, and the soldier boy looked at Edgar with some surprise: "You? You're coming with me?"
“I’ve always had one belief,” Edgar replied, “If you really want to get something done—you’d better get involved yourself.”
Inside the Black Robe Squad's base, the members idly watched the news.
Becca and the Butcher were in the room, discussing something. From time to time, Becca's crying and the Butcher's comforting words could be heard coming from behind the door.
His breastfeeding caregiver was temporarily away, so he rushed home to be with his wife. Given that he was often away from home, his wife was furious, but thankfully he always brought back a lot of money, so she didn't really explode.
Franky, Kimiko, and Kenji were talking. It was clear that he was eager to build a good relationship with Kenji, since in his eyes, Kenji was his future brother-in-law. If the two of them got along better now, their future family relationship would be more harmonious.
Kimiko didn't show any clear affection for Franky; she just felt that they both had suffered in their childhoods and shared some sympathy for each other—but she didn't see any romantic interest in him.
"Snapped!"
The butcher, who had somehow left the room, slammed the newspaper he was holding onto the table and couldn't help but ask Ma Zhaodi, "Why are we waiting here again? Shouldn't we be doing something?" "Generally speaking, we should be doing something."
Ma Zhaodi replied, "For example, we could dig into the soldier boy's information or inquire about his experiences in Russia. But in our team, only one person, Frankie, has ever communicated with Russians. He said he never wants to go back in his life. As for that group of Russian gangsters, they've all vanished into thin air. If you count the time, they should be reincarnated today."
"So we'll just wait for Operation Vought?"
"Finding Vogbaum is also a good idea—I'm looking into his biography to see if he left any evidence of any dark history, secrets, or illegitimate children."
"Have it?"
"No."
The butcher clenched his fist.
“But things still need to be done.” Ma Zhaodi shrugged. “So, just like how I threatened Ezekiel to get information, I sent an email to Vorg Nanny.”
The butcher's eyes lit up—his face really did change very quickly.
"Goodness, I knew you, Old Ma, always had a way—quick, quick, tell me in detail."
"There's not much to say in detail. I just told him in the email that this message blocked Walter's surveillance. If he's unwilling to explain to the CIA what Walter did, then I'll tell his daughter all about the cruel human experiments he conducted at Walter."
"?"
The butcher's eyes widened: "You told me not to mess with his daughter, and now you're doing it yourself?"
"How can that be the same? I don't kill anyone."
"To destroy someone's spirit is more ruthless than to kill them—but how do you know what human experiments he conducted?"
"My guess."
Ma Zhaodi, though arguing, retorted, "If he didn't do it, why would Edgar trust him so much? If he didn't do it, why would Madeline be so eager to confess to him?"
“If he didn’t do it—then of course he doesn’t need to be afraid of the emails I send to his granddaughter.”
"You really want to send it?!"
"Of course, I always keep my word. If I say I'll help him harmonize his family relationships, I will—it's just a pity he has no grandchildren."
The butcher was amazed.
He said earnestly, "Ma Zhaodi, you are truly a good person in a moral vacuum."
“Pure slander, I can’t even be bothered to refute it.” Ma Zhaodi chuckled: “You must have learned that term from someone else, you don’t have the knowledge to make paper.”
“Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down”
The text message ringtone interrupted their conversation.
"Huh? The Invisible Man messaged me?"
Ma Zhaodi opened the message, which contained only a short sentence.
"Come quickly, the soldier boy and Edgar are on their way together."
