Chapter 575 Will You Win?
"That mysterious organization?"
The soldier boy scoffed at Edgar's demands.
“We all know my interview transcript is just to fool those idiots. There’s no mysterious organization at all. It’s just the Soviet Union from beginning to end, and then Russia—I was frozen in liquid nitrogen there for so long, but my brain isn’t damaged yet. Do you expect me to create an organization out of thin air?”
"The goal is to create an organization out of thin air."
Edgar's expression remained calm: "We all know it's Russia, but you probably don't realize that things are different now than before."
"What's the meaning."
"America, America is not what it used to be."
When speaking to the soldier boy, Edgar was quite blunt: "If people know that you were imprisoned by Russia and experimented on, whether it was the Russian military or some ambitious people in the civilian world, it makes no difference."
"Ultimately, everyone will only see one thing: one of America's symbols, a World War II hero revered by countless people, is being persecuted in Russia—at this point, no matter how the government handles it, it will be very troublesome."
"Oh—" the soldier boy sneered, "To put it bluntly, you're just too scared to fight, aren't you?"
"Just for you alone? To fight Russia, which has the capability to launch a nuclear war? It's completely not worth it, there's no need at all."
Edgar shook his head: "But unfortunately, most Americans will only share your view that the U.S. military and government are cowardly, weak and incompetent."
The soldier boy remained silent with a cold laugh.
"In short, putting aside the Russia issue, let's just talk about those old teammates you want to visit in person—they were all members of the Blood for Blood Squad during World War II. Over the years, they have been promoted and performed as heroes, and they have also built their own careers. In other words, their image is also one of the pillars of American pride."
The soldier boy's expression changed slightly. He stared intently into Edgar's eyes, his face contorted with furious and murderous intent.
“I said I would kill them, and I will kill them—you can just tell me about how they plotted against me and colluded with the mysterious organization against me, and then it will be perfectly reasonable for me to kill them.”
"That won't work either. It would be too damaging to Walter's image. The company is under a lot of pressure right now, and if things continue like this, it might go bankrupt."
The soldier boy looked at Edgar with a gloomy expression, and he said nothing more.
But Edgar knew that in a few seconds, there was a high probability that he would start killing people.
"Look, here's how it is. The soldier boy can't fight the Bloodbath Squad, but the mysterious organization can. This way, everyone wins. They just die at the hands of terrorists; America gains a terrifying enemy; and you get revenge and become the only superhero who can help America fight the enemy."
Edgar smiled like an elegant fox: "After all, your story is about destroying one of their branches and then returning to your homeland."
"And then Vought becomes one of the crutches that a crippled America has to rely on again?" The soldier boy reacted quickly: "I remember that while I was back, someone at the company told me about one of the bills Vought recently applied for—superheroes in the military. If I were to lead the way, some of the old fogies in Congress and most Americans wouldn't object."
Edgar frowned, secretly displeased. This was one of the reasons he hid it; he originally intended to bully the soldier boy, an old fogey who knew nothing about modern society. Little did he know that some fool had revealed this to the soldier boy, and now he would be used as a bargaining chip.
“The bill was practically a done deal,” he replied calmly. “But that’s not something you need to worry about, at least not for now. Let’s finish the first deal first.”
"Of course, you help me kill those bastards who betrayed me, and I'll join the group of eight to help you deal with some people—but if you have hundreds of superhumans under your command, why do you have to make me your henchman? I've read the newspapers; isn't Homelander pretty strong?"
“He can’t handle Superman.” Edgar admitted frankly: “As for that so-called ‘mysterious organization,’ it’s not just a figment of my imagination—Vought has recently suffered a series of attacks, some of which seem like coincidences, some of which seem to be the work of the CIA, but one thing is certain: superhumans are also involved.”
"so?"
"So I became suspicious that these things might not have just happened by chance. There might really be a mysterious organization that sneaked into New York like an insect and made a move against Walter."
At this point, Edgar paused, recalling the raid on Shining Radiance's branch. There were four people at the scene, and afterwards, remnants of Shining Radiance used their superpowers to blow Homelander to pieces. Then came the CIA's joint investigation—and even today, he received news of Bega and her son's disappearance.
"There's been no news from the sage forest either. Are those people really that powerful?"
Edgar also mobilized a large amount of Vought's resources and sent superheroes to find the person behind it all, but they have yet to find them—just like the Radiant remnant this morning, who mysteriously disappeared when he was on the verge of death.
"Among those four, one must have a hacker-like superpower, or be extremely skilled at hacking; one must be a very capable gunslinger, whose shooting skills are almost comparable to 'Gunpowder' from the Blood Debt Pays Off Squad; one must be a highly skilled stealth user, capable of silently escaping two people from the restricted area; and one must be an extremely powerful combatant, capable of silently taking down Storm."
“You need to be careful,” Edgar warned the soldier boy. “There might be four superpowered people in that group, and now there’s a healing factor, a telekinetic, and maybe a bunch of crazy superpowered people too.”
Where is Superman?
"Damn it." Edgar covered his head, feeling a little suffocated: "Yeah, Superman, Maeve and Starlight might also be in their group, and maybe even Deep Sea and A-Train—to assemble such a terrifying force, it means that a large amount of Compound V had leaked out before, and A-Train must be involved."
"Really?" the soldier boy asked. "I seem to remember that Walter started selling Compound V back in World War II. Has he stopped selling it now?"
“Walter will always ensure that every Compound V sold does not harm the company’s interests. We carefully select our buyers and will never allow them to become Walter’s enemies.”
"So, there are at most a dozen or so superpowered individuals on the other side this time?"
"Can you win?"
"hehe."
