Chapter 571 Surprise!

It's so dark and so cold.
My eyelids feel so heavy, I can't open my eyes.

"Buzz."

A muffled sound came from the void, drifting and swaying, not very clear.

".child."

what?
"Child?"

Am I still alive?
"That child!"

A thunderous sound buzzed in my ears, startling me so much that my heart skipped a beat.

"Who?!"

The blood-covered youth sprang to his feet, like a survivor who had been pulled ashore from near drowning. He gasped for breath, his mind blank.

"Whoo, whoo, whoo"

"See, I told you he wasn't dead."

A man was speaking English beside him, and the young man could hear him clearly now. The loud, thunderous sound effect in the air earlier was his voice.

No, it wasn't exactly emptiness; it was just that when I fainted, my consciousness was blurred, and I couldn't hear anything clearly.

Before he could react, the young man was suddenly enveloped in a warm embrace. The feeling of the embrace was so familiar, as if he had been embraced like this many times before.

"elder sister?"

The young man looked up in disbelief and saw a familiar face. It was his sister, who had been brought into the radiant light with him and was his only remaining blood relative.

"Sister! You're not dead?!"

"I'm not dead, Kenji, I'm not dead, I'm still alive, and you're alive too."

Kimiko, rambling incoherently, hugged her younger brother, feeling as if she had been through another world. Overwhelmed with a thousand thoughts and mixed feelings, she didn't know what to say for a moment. She could only quickly and intermittently repeat a few monotonous sentences on her phone.

However, there were no typos this time.

"Alright, alright, I know you're all excited." The butcher ruined the mood at this inopportune moment: "Go wash the blood off yourselves first—Old Ma, what's going on over there?"

Becca was right next to the butcher when she heard this and instinctively gave him a light punch—you're just getting emotional, can't you stop being such a spoilsport?

Kimiko and Kenji finally recovered from their excitement of reunion and regained some of their senses. Kenji then realized that he was covered in blood, but his injuries seemed to have completely healed—while Kimiko had rubbed blood all over his clothes.

"Didn't I just die?"

Recalling the last moments before he fell into a coma, Kenji was utterly shocked. He remembered that he had smuggled himself here with a few members of Shining Glory, and then immediately saw the news of the destruction of Shining Glory's branch on TV in New York. He and those members hid in fear for a few days like stray dogs, and then received news that the headquarters had been wiped out by Homelanders.

According to those high-ranking members, Vought betrayed them, but the truth didn't matter. Homelander's power was overwhelming against a terrorist organization; whether it was a betrayal or counter-terrorism was irrelevant—Shining Glow was completely finished. If it weren't for their superpowers, they would have continued to hide—but after Vought's recent series of revelations, he seemed to have intensified his crackdown on the remaining Shining Glow members. Whether it was to silence witnesses or salvage his image, it was unclear, but this resulted in several of them being driven back into the streets.

Are you kidding me? Homelander was crushing them, but what about A-Train and the Invisible Man? Not to mention Vought's hundreds of other superheroes.

It was under these desperate circumstances that the few remaining members decided to take matters into their own hands and confront Vought. Today, they stormed the Vought Building, hoping to use their superpowers to ambush and kill the president of Vought—or some high-ranking official, or even Deep Sea, the mascot of the Seven. As long as they made a big enough scene, at least they would have retaliated in some way.

Unfortunately, they encountered that terrifying psychic on the road. Kenji and the others didn't know who he was, but this guy's psychic abilities were too terrifying. They didn't even see his movements clearly before the group of people traveling together were punched into paper dolls.

Cruel, brutal, and somewhat delirious, he even appeared calm while killing, as if he were lost in thought.

The skill and casualness with which they committed the killing made even Shining Glory, a member of a cult-like terrorist organization, feel that they were indeed going too far.

The last thing Kenji could remember was that he used his telekinesis to throw a parked car at the other man, and then he saw the man raise his hand and punch the car back.

It really hit him hard, and the moment Kenji was thrown away by the car, he saw a dazzling white light appear on the man's chest, followed by the beam of light shooting into the sky.

That's right. The reason he was in a near-death state was not because he took the soldier boy's beam head-on, but because he was hit by the car that bounced back, and then grazed by the beam that pierced through the car—that car could even be considered to have saved his life by blocking the soldier boy's vision.

Kenji, who had survived the ordeal, then remembered the remaining members of the organization. He was horrified and quickly got up to run back, but as soon as he took a step, he felt extremely weak.

"No, what's wrong with my body? My abilities? Why have my abilities disappeared?!"

If his inexplicable recovery left him feeling bewildered, then discovering that his superpowers had vanished filled Kenji with immense terror.

"Superpowers?" Kimiko's eyes widened as she typed on her phone, "You were used for experiments?"

"They..." Kenji suppressed his panic temporarily under his sister's question: "They think we are siblings, and since Compound V works on you, it should work on me too—they bet right, my superpower is telekinesis."

Kimiko stared blankly at her younger brother. She herself had suffered the painful process of being injected with compounds into her spinal cord and had been imprisoned by the Radiant Light for so long. Putting herself in his shoes, she immediately felt that Kenji's experience was just as painful as her own.

"I'm sorry, Kenji, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." Tears streamed down her face as she hugged her younger brother tightly. "I should have come to save you sooner. Mom and Dad aren't here. I should have protected you. I'm so sorry."

The butcher didn't want to spoil the atmosphere any further, so he turned to look at Ma Zhaodi and asked, "What exactly is going on?"

"Nothing much, just that Edgar's secret weapon has arrived."

Ma Zhaodi replied, "There's been no movement from the Russian mafia. I suspect they've all vanished by now."

"Secret weapon?"

The butcher immediately recalled the words Kenji had spoken: "I can't understand his gibberish. What secret weapon? Some kind of high-powered firearm? A virus couldn't possibly cause that kind of physical injury that leaves you covered in blood, could it?"

“It’s not a firearm.” Ma Zhaodi shook his head.

"He's a soldier boy."
