Chapter 327 Active Duty Military Personnel
The villagers had all left, leaving only three people at the entrance of the courtyard.

The battalion commander, Captain Wen, and a soldier who came with Captain Wen.

The captain was still not fully accepting of what had happened to the Wei family, and he seemed quite dejected.
But the matter at hand required immediate attention, and he looked at the two soldiers in front of him. The police officers had already left, but the two soldiers were still unwilling to leave.

The three of them stood at the gate of the courtyard, looking at each other, unsure of what to say.

Finally, the battalion commander spoke first, asking, "Comrades, what can I do for you?"

"We're here to see Comrade Wei Jingyuan," Captain Wen explained, then added, "Actually, I came here once before to give Comrade Tao an award."

"It was the old Party Secretary of your brigade who brought me here."

"Are you the soldier comrade the old Party Secretary mentioned last time?" Speaking of giving Tao Qiuyi an award, the captain remembered that there was indeed such a thing.

The old Party Secretary had mentioned to him that some soldiers had come to give Tao Qiuyi an award. This was because Tao Qiuyi had helped the soldiers catch a spy while searching for medicinal herbs in the mountains.

He personally led the person to the Wei family's house and even had tea there for a while before returning home. The news quickly spread throughout the entire brigade, and everyone also learned that Tao Qiuyi had received a considerable bonus.

This time they've come to see Jingyuan again. Could it be that Jingyuan helped the army with something and they're here to give him a bonus?
"Yes, I should be. My surname is Wen, and I'm an active-duty soldier." Captain Wen nodded and showed his identification to the battalion commander. "This is my identification."

Having checked Captain Wen's identification, the battalion commander could confirm the identities of the two soldiers were correct. However, given the current situation, seeing Jingyuan seemed unlikely...

The captain glanced into the courtyard and thought to himself that they would probably have to wait a while longer to see Jingyuan.

Not wanting the two soldiers to feel slighted, the battalion commander explained, "Comrade Wen, as you just saw, Jingyuan's sister fainted."

"He's currently treating his sister inside, so he probably won't have time to see you."

They had just been forced to watch a show, so they naturally understood what the captain meant. Captain Wen looked slightly embarrassed and said, "It's alright, we can wait a while."

"May I ask what business Comrade Wen has with Jingyuan?" the captain asked tentatively.

"I'm sorry." Captain Wen didn't say anything more, but the captain understood that this meant he couldn't talk to him about it, so he stopped dwelling on the topic.

Knowing that Captain Wen wouldn't leave today unless he saw Jingyuan, the captain had no choice but to suggest, "It's cold, why don't you two come to my house for a while and have some hot water?"

"No need, thank you for your kindness, Captain." Captain Wen declined the captain's offer without any hesitation.

Soldiers don't take a single needle or thread from the people, so naturally they won't go to people's homes casually.

The two soldiers were unwilling to go to his home, and he could not make the decision on his own to lead them into Jingyuan's home.

The captain was in a dilemma for a moment.

Captain Wen mistakenly thought that the captain's troubled expression meant he had something to attend to. So he said, "Captain, go ahead and do what you need to do. Don't worry about us."

A poisoning incident occurred in the village, resulting in deaths and alarming the police. As the brigade leader, I certainly have many things to arrange.

He's an active-duty soldier, but he doesn't have the authority to interfere in local affairs. If he can't help, he shouldn't at least delay the battalion commander from handling his business.

"It's alright, no rush, no rush," the battalion commander said, forcing a smile. In reality, he had a mountain of things to deal with, and while he said he wasn't in a hurry, he was anxious inside. But he couldn't really ignore these two soldiers.

It's already excessive to not treat military comrades well when they come to their brigade. Making them wait outside in the cold wind is simply unacceptable anywhere.

Seeing the captain's insincere expression, Captain Wen felt somewhat helpless. Just as he was about to try to persuade him again, he caught a glimpse of someone walking into the yard out of the corner of his eye and decisively shut his mouth.

Just as the brigade leader was in a dilemma, Xiao Huai stepped forward and greeted him first. "Fourth Uncle."

"How is Xiaoli? Has she woken up? By the way, what are you doing out here?" The captain grabbed Xiaohuai's arm and asked three questions in one breath.

"Fourth Uncle, don't worry, I'll answer your question slowly," Xiao Huai said. "Li Zi is still unconscious and hasn't woken up, but Big Brother said that Li Zi fainted because of a shock."

"I'm fine, Uncle, don't worry."

"In addition, my sister-in-law asked me to come out and invite the two soldiers inside to rest. She also said that if my fourth uncle had anything to do, he could go ahead and do it."

After hearing Xiao Huai's words, the battalion commander finally felt relieved. He readily said, "Alright, you take the two soldiers inside to rest, I'll go back to the battalion headquarters."

After saying that, the captain left without looking back, his steps hurried.

Xiao Huai watched the captain's departing figure, lost in thought.

Fourth Uncle must have gone to gather the village's able-bodied men to go to the town hospital to bring Grandma and his deceased eldest uncle back. To be honest, he felt no sadness at all about his eldest uncle's death.

Although he stayed inside the house, their house was close to the gate of the courtyard, so he could hear clearly what everyone was saying outside.

My aunt poisoned the food they ate at their house. My third uncle stole the food and took it to the town hospital. My uncle ate the poisoned food and died. My aunt went mad and revealed the truth.

The whole thing was like a farce, but he still wanted to say something.

Deserve it.

What angered him most was that his aunt poisoned his parents to death and framed Li Zi for it. Li Zi has been feeling incredibly guilty about this for the past two years.

"Little friend, didn't you say you'd lead us inside?" Captain Wen asked, staring at the child for at least two minutes, waiting for him to lead the way, but the child didn't move.

Captain Wen looked at the child in front of him, who appeared to be about eight or nine years old. He invited them inside, but stood there at the door, staring blankly at the departing figure of the brigade commander.
Xiao Huai snapped out of her thoughts and apologized calmly, "I'm sorry, comrades, I'll take you inside now."

"This kid has a good ability to adapt!" Captain Wen thought to himself.

Xiao Huai led the two soldiers to the next room and took them directly to the table. He invited them to sit down and poured each of them a cup of tea from the thermos.

"Thank you, little friend." After thanking him, Captain Wen picked up his water cup, tilted his head back, and drank half a cup of tea in one gulp. He was really thirsty; he had walked so far to get here, and only now could he finally have a drink of water.

Captain Wen quickly drank the remaining half glass of water.

The soldiers who came with Captain Wen had also finished their water.
