Chapter 56 Extra 3 When to get the certificate

Chapter 56 Extra 3 When to get the certificate
Cheng Zhixu sat down at the dining table first, ate breakfast slowly and leisurely, and waited for Jian Ling.

Jian Ling didn't show up when they were halfway through breakfast. They were almost done, but she still hadn't appeared. Cheng Zhixu called out to her, and she responded with an "Ah!" and hurried out, holding a thin black stick in one hand and a small mirror in the other. Her eyebrows knitted slightly as she expressed dissatisfaction, "I didn't even apply my mascara properly."

Cheng Zhixu finished the last bite of breakfast, took out a tissue to wipe his mouth, leaned back in his chair and looked at her patiently.

Jian Ling didn't go back to the bathroom. She simply sat at the dining table, holding up her small mirror. She opened her eyes slightly and applied black mascara to her eyelashes, making them distinct and curled. Her eyelashes were already thick, and the small, dark mass made them look lively and beautiful when she blinked.

"Does it look good?" She shifted her gaze from the mirror to look at Cheng Zhixu.

Cheng Zhixu raised his hand and motioned her to look at his watch: "We're going to be late." After a pause, he added with a desperate look, "It looks good."

Jian Ling looked down and found herself still wearing her loose pajamas. Not only that, she was also wearing a small sheep plush headband on her head for washing her face and putting on makeup. She quickly put down her things and went to the bedroom to change clothes, and left like the wind.

The driver arrived a long time ago, but no one showed up, so he called Cheng Zhixu. Cheng Zhixu leaned against the wall of the cloakroom, glanced at someone still adjusting their collar in the mirror, and replied to the driver to wait a little longer.

Jian Ling packed everything up and looked at the time. If she continued dawdling, she would be late! In a fit of rage, she grabbed Cheng Zhixu's arm and rushed out. Cheng Zhixu couldn't catch up and stumbled as she pulled him. "You're not having breakfast?"

"Eat!"

-

The two of them sat in the back seat of the car. Jian Ling was holding a transparent plastic bag with two braised pork buns in it, and an unopened bottle of soy milk was placed on her lap. No wonder she was not in a hurry, it turned out that she had decided to have breakfast in the car.

Cheng Zhixu was worried that the soy milk would spill and burn her, so he helped her get it, inserted a straw, and handed it to her when she wanted to drink it. She took a sip from his hand.

She took a careful bite of the bun, her lipstick inevitably stained the snowy white skin. She tutted in frustration, then continued eating without a care in the world. The braised pork was rich and fragrant, smothered in a delicious gravy that would spill out if she wasn't careful. She ate with great refinement, and gradually, the whole car was filled with the aroma of the braised pork buns.

The driver who came to pick someone up without having breakfast was so greedy that he swallowed silently.

Cheng Zhixu pressed his eyebrows together, the corners of his mouth curled up helplessly: "Jian Ling, get up ten minutes earlier next time."

Jian Ling ignored him, and Cheng Zhixu said, "The car smells like steamed buns."

Jian Ling turned her head to look at him and asked silently: Do you dislike me?
Her mouth was full of steamed buns, and her words weren't clear, but Cheng Zhixu still understood her lip movements. Just as he was about to speak, Jian Ling glanced at the driver's seat. Seeing the driver staring straight ahead, intently driving, she quickly leaned over and kissed Cheng Zhixu on the lips, raising her eyebrows in triumph.

Don't say the car smells like steamed buns, now his mouth smells like steamed buns! No one should dislike anyone!

She's being naughty again. Cheng Zhixu glanced sideways ahead. The driver met his gaze in the rearview mirror, but the former calmly shifted his gaze, pretending he hadn't seen anything.

Cheng Zhixu touched his nose and pretended nothing happened.

Their place was close to the company. When the car stopped at the entrance of the building, Jian Ling reluctantly finished her breakfast, took the remaining half cup of soy milk from Cheng Zhixu, and hurriedly said, "I'm going to be late. I have to clock in!"

Cheng Zhixu wanted to remind her that she hadn't taken her bag, but the car door was suddenly pushed open. The man scurried down like a rabbit and ran into the company without even closing the car door. The February spring breeze was like scissors, blowing in through the open car door.

Cheng Zhixu: “…”

Jian Ling entered her fingerprint and clocked in, then relaxed. She walked into the office and sat down at her workstation, greeting Dai Wangchu next to her: "Good morning."

Dai Wangchu: "Good morning."

During work hours, every workstation in the office is occupied, some typing away at their keyboards or flipping through documents. The morning sun streams in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a golden glow across the light grey floor.

Cheng Zhixu got off the car later than Jian Ling, carrying her tote bag that could only fit a laptop computer, and walked into the exclusive elevator. However, instead of going directly to the 48th floor as usual, he pressed the button for the 26th floor.

Soon, the elevator reached the 26th floor. He walked out of the elevator, crossed the brightly lit corridor, and headed towards the planning department's office area.

During this busy morning, passing employees kept stopping and waving panicked greetings at him. For a moment, he couldn't understand why Mr. Cheng had suddenly arrived so early. Had he never heard of a meeting on this floor? Had he just missed the message? He was truly panicked...

"Hello, Mr. Cheng."

With a greeting, everyone in the planning department looked up. Seeing who was coming, they tried to stand up and greet him, but Cheng Zhixu's gaze froze them in their tracks. They could only sit stiffly at their workstations, their eyes following his movements.

Jian Ling's workstation was near the back. Cheng Zhixu calmly walked across the aisle and placed his bag on her desk. He leaned over and whispered, "Did you forget to take your bag? Didn't you notice?"

Jian Ling was holding the cup and taking the last sip of soy milk. She choked and looked at him in surprise. Then she looked at the bag on the table, pursed her lips, and said vaguely, "I forgot about it in my rush to punch in."

Dozens of eyes were staring at her, but Cheng Zhixu didn't waste any time talking to her. He knocked her head when he stood up, then pinched the knot of his tie and turned away. To outsiders, it seemed that Cheng Zhixu had accidentally touched Jian Ling's hair when he raised his hand to adjust his tie, but only she knew that was not the case.

Jian Ling tilted her head and touched it. She noticed the way he was pinching the knot of his tie, and the corners of her mouth couldn't help but curl up. She had tied the tie for him this morning...

After Cheng Zhixu left, it took a long time for the onlookers in the planning department to come back to their senses.

"Tsk, what's going on?" "Can't you tell? Mr. Cheng is here to give his girlfriend a bag."

"No, why would Mr. Cheng give a bag to his girlfriend?"

"Shut up, straight man."

Jian Ling took out her phone from her bag and sent a message to the breeder: "Thank you, Boss Cheng."

The breeder replied: "Yeah. Just don't give me kisses with weird flavors in the future." The smell of hot pot last night, the smell of steamed buns this morning, it was obvious that the kisses he gave her when they were in love were all sweet and fragrant.

Palm Pig: "I'll give you three seconds to retract this statement."

The system displays: The other party has withdrawn a message.

Palm Pig: "Hahahahahaha."

Palm Pig: "I have to work hard and stop chatting with you."

The breeder said: "Come up for lunch at noon. I ordered the sushi you wanted."

Palm Pig: "Okay~"

-

After get off work on Friday, Cheng Zhixu personally drove Jian Ling back to Jian's house, and Ye Xianxin invited him to stay for dinner. Because she had asked him in advance, many of his favorite dishes were on the table. Ye Xianxin didn't treat him as an outsider, and kept using the serving chopsticks to pick up food for him, encouraging him to eat more.

"Lingling has caused you a lot of trouble at the company, hasn't she?" Ye Xianxin poured him another bowl of soup and said with a smile, "Thankfully, you're watching over me. I can rest assured."

Cheng Zhixu smiled and took the bowl of chicken soup with both hands. Before he could reply, Jian Ling protested, "How could that be?"

"Lingling is very serious about her work and has never asked me for help." Cheng Zhixu echoed her words, "She's doing very well in the planning department. The department manager says she has a lot of ideas and is well-suited to this job."

"Did you hear that?" Jian Ling craned her neck and boasted to the two elders opposite her, "I'm currently in charge of two major projects. I haven't asked him to worry about them at all. I've been handling them slowly on my own."

Ye Xianxin nodded, expressing her relief. After chatting about work, she changed the subject and asked, "Have you two discussed when you plan to get your marriage certificate?"

Jian Ling was surprised when she mentioned this. "Ah? Isn't the wedding date set for August? It's only March, there's still a long time. I thought we could get the marriage certificate before then. I've been a bit busy lately and may not have time. I think..."

Under the table, her knee was bumped by Cheng Zhixu next to her. She paused and swallowed the rest of her words. She turned her gaze to Cheng Zhixu and blinked in confusion, not understanding what was going on.

Cheng Zhixu coughed lightly, his eyes fixed on her, but he was actually answering Ye Xianxin's question: "I haven't discussed it with Jian Ling yet. It depends on her schedule. If she's free, we'll go get the certificate."

He saw that she was indeed a bit busy recently, so he did not mention the matter of getting a marriage certificate in front of her. He thought that he would discuss it formally with her when she was a little freer and set a date for them to go home and get their household registration books and other documents.

He never expected that Ye Xianxin would suddenly bring up this topic at the dinner table, catching him off guard.

What he meant, of course, was that he wanted to get the marriage certificate as soon as possible and make Jian Ling his legal wife, the real Mrs. Cheng, so as to avoid any more complications.

Even Jian Ling, no matter how slow-witted she was, could see Cheng Zhixu's impatience. Yet, in front of her parents, he pretended to be calm and willing to listen to her instructions. She licked her lips and couldn't help but laugh inwardly. Cheng Zhixu was so adorable, she wanted to touch his face.

Cheng Zhixu looked at her half-smile and was unsure, so he blurted out, "What do you think?"

"I think..." Jian Ling dragged out her tone, instantly lifting Cheng Zhixu's fluctuating heart. After it was lifted enough, she slowly said, "I can do anything."

Cheng Zhixu breathed a sigh of relief, then realized belatedly that he had been fooled by her. With the elders present, he couldn't redeem himself and could only hold back: "Then when you're done with this, we'll go get the certificate."

Jian Ling finally couldn't help laughing and said, "Okay."

As it turned out, Cheng Zhixu's concerns were not unfounded. He was worried that something unexpected would happen if things were delayed any further. Unexpectedly, a few days later, a Cheng Yaojin really showed up out of nowhere.

Cheng Zhixu: I want to drag her to get the marriage certificate right now!!!
  Jian Ling: ...

Cheng Zhixu: No, it was you who pursued me in the beginning, why aren’t you anxious?

Jian Ling: Didn’t I get her now?

Cheng Zhixu: ...So love will disappear, right?
