Chapter 80: Comparison between the Sun, Moon and Fireflies
"As expected of a legend, he gave everyone such a powerful warning as soon as he entered the town."
Soon after Martin entered the town, he was visited by members of the archaeological team.
"I have too many enemies. If I don't give them a warning, we can forget about entering the forest. We can only keep dealing with my enemies."
The person blocking his car's wheels was a woman, about 1 meters tall, wearing an orange off-road jacket, with long black hair tied behind her head. Her beautiful face was a work that the greatest painter had created with all her heart and soul.
But strangely, when Martin saw her for the first time, he did not notice her overly beautiful face, but was attracted by her special temperament which was a mixture of orchids in the valley, reefs in the sea, and towering cliffs.
She is like a magic box created by the gods, tempting people to understand each other more deeply at all times.
"Diana Prince, should I address you as Madam or Miss?"
Diana frowned, and Martin explained: "Don't get me wrong, the deputy curator showed me your information."
"Just call my name."
Diana calms down
"Because you were late, we postponed our entry into the forest to tomorrow. We rented a room in town and will stay here tonight. Come with me."
She answered the questions confidently and began to give orders to Martin.
Martin nodded and followed her toward the hotel in the center of town.
Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, Princess Diana of Paradise Island is the pseudonym used by the human society. She is a natural demigod, her mother is the queen of Paradise Island, and her father is Zeus, the king of Olympus.
Martin doesn't know what kind of experiences the Wonder Woman in this world has had, but this world is not a messy timeline, so the other party is definitely trustworthy.
As soon as he and Diana entered the hotel room, two men and one woman ran over, grabbed Diana's arms, and started asking questions.
These scholars usually live in big cities, and even if they engage in intrigue, they would only force their colleagues to resign.
I didn't even see a few dead chickens, but I saw a lot of dead people along the way.
They had already been frightened by the violent and bloody fighting in the primeval forest. They were at a loss and uneasy, and they always felt the sound of gunfire.
If it weren't for Diana's encouragement, these people would have collapsed long ago.
Diana first calmed down these colleagues, and then said to Martin: "Let me introduce you to Barbara Minerva, Alda Moss, and Ryan Ken. They are all my colleagues. This gentleman is..."
"and many more!"
Martin looked at the performance of the other three people, interrupted Diana and said to her: "Let's go out and talk."
Diana hesitated for a few seconds, but followed Martin into the corridor.
"Your colleagues can't handle the stress of this adventure. The best thing to do is to simply return the way you came."
Martin gave his opinion from a professional perspective.
Diana didn't answer right away.
Martin continued, "This is for their own safety. Even though we are still in human civilization, your colleagues are so scared that they dare not even leave their rooms. Once they enter the jungle, facing the poisonous insects, traps, and the adventurers' schemes everywhere, they will only end up dying in the jungle."
The situation was worse than Martin had imagined, but it was also easily solvable.
Except for Diana, none of these people have the courage to risk their lives, let alone the need to risk their lives.
"This is just an archaeological operation. If South America doesn't work, we can go to Africa or other places in Europe. It doesn't have to be here."
Diana walked around the corridor twice, then finally nodded: "You are right. There are countless archaeological projects in the world. My colleagues don't need to take this risk."
"But you're not going to quit?"
Martin was not surprised. Diana was a fighter and she would never back down from any danger.
"Of course, we paid for it."
Diana is decisive and once she makes a decision, she will execute it.
She opened the door, walked into the house, and told her colleagues about the decision.
The two male scholars breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed on the sofa. "Thank you, thank you, Diana. We really don't want to lose our lives in this place."
Martin did not despise them.
These two people may have lived in the city all their lives, and suddenly they are asked to risk their lives for a dispensable project.
It's normal to be afraid, and it's understandable to retreat.
Because it's not worth it.
But the female scholar, also named Barbara, raised her hand tremblingly and said to Diana in a low but firm voice: "I don't want to quit. Diana, I can hold on, you believe me."
Barbara was an inconspicuous woman. She wore thick glasses, had messy curly hair, and was a little bloated.
He always kept his head down and looked at his toes, and his voice was not loud.
If Diana is the sun and the moon, then Barbara is at best a firefly in the night. She has no sense of existence next to Diana.
Diana hugged her friend and said with concern, "Barbara, there are many opportunities like this. There is no need for you to risk your life."
Barbara raised her head, stared at Diana through her thick-lensed eyes and said, "But you still have to continue your adventure into the forest."
"I...I'm different."
Of course, Diana couldn't say that she was actually a demigod who could survive even the center of a nuclear bomb explosion.
"What's the difference?"
Barbara became excited, grabbed Diana's clothes tightly, and asked: "We are both women, and we are both scholars studying history. What's the difference?"
"All right!"
Martin interrupted their conversation: "Go ahead if you want to. I can still protect one person."
Diana glared at Martin fiercely, silently asking him why he dragged his friend into danger.
But Barbara was extremely grateful to him, holding his hand and expressing her gratitude over and over again.
Martin pulled his hand away awkwardly, called the Wayne Group branch, and asked them to send a car to pick up the two people as soon as possible.
After doing all this, he returned to his room under Diana's gaze, locked the door, and then breathed a sigh of relief.
"What a vicious woman. Even though she's pretty, she has such a bad temper."
Martin muttered something to Diana, then took out a pen and paper from his backpack and began to mark the route on the ready-made map.
It is impossible to get Diana to leave at night. If she is alone, she can still give it a try.
And the change in his identity was also beyond his control.
All he could do now was to mark the route ahead and prepare more insect repellent and detoxification drugs and various tools for the two women.
If he is lucky enough to stay here, that would be the best.
If unfortunate, this was all he could do for the two girls.
Martin worked until the sun went down and finally got everything ready.
When he left the room, he saw Diana standing at the window, looking at the stars, lonely like a stone statue.
"If you are worried about your friend's safety, I can ask the Wayne Group to pick her up as well."
