Chapter 30: Defeating a Man with a Strong Will (Please read on and support meow!)
In an underground base in Gotham.
Arkham Knight looked at the charred corpse in front of him. His breathing, filtered through the mask, became extremely heavy and echoed in the cold steel room.
The warriors and mercenaries under his command all stood upright, holding their breath and not daring to make a sound.
Because Bane is dead.
The tubes that transported Titan venom to the body were cut, and the injured Bane was defenseless in the artillery fire and unable to escape.
His body was baked into a huge piece of charcoal by the high temperature, and the shock wave blew off his limbs, leaving only a vaguely human-shaped corpse.
"You mean that fake Batman pretended to kill Bane to lure you into launching an attack?"
Arkham Knight's voice was as grim as his mood.
The mercenary who followed Bane in the operation stood in military posture and answered, "That's right, Batman. What we mean is that the fake Batman deliberately led us to attack and killed Mr. Bane with our help."
The mercenaries noticed that Arkham Knight suddenly turned his head. Even though the other party didn't say anything, they felt a chill in their hearts and quickly changed their words.
"Good, we all know Batman doesn't judge criminals himself, so that guy must be an imposter."
Arkham Knight turned to the samurai and mercenary and encouraged them: "That is just a fake that Nightwing found from some corner. Don't be afraid of the name of Batman. Continue with our plan. Victory will definitely belong to us."
"But Gotham doesn't feel that way. Everybody on the street feels that Bruce Wayne is not Batman."
A woman with long dark red hair, wearing a tight leather jacket and revealing a Middle Eastern style walked in.
"Not only did your actions fail to damage Batman's reputation, but they also helped Bruce clear the suspicion."
"Thalia!"
Arkham Knight looked at the woman who dug him out of the rubble and asked softly, "Why are you here?"
"The Demon Chief is very dissatisfied with your progress. First, he lost the Penguin, an important ally, and then he failed to complete the task of destroying Gotham's order and lost Bane."
Talia asked the others to leave, and then accused the Arkham Knight of his faults in a voice as sharp as a blade, showing no mercy.
"It's my fault! I didn't expect Nightwing to find someone who is as powerful as Batman." Arkham Knight did not shirk responsibility.
But he never expected that Martin just wanted to join in the fun and was not sent by Nightwing.
Talia nodded indifferently: "I am here to help you complete the task. Have you found any clues related to that mysterious man?"
"Mrs. Shiva seems to know the other party's identity, but she is not willing to cooperate with us."
Arkham Knight's memory is hazy, but like Batman, he is suspicious of anything out of the ordinary, no matter how unfounded it may be.
"I'll go see her myself and get the information. Where is Batman?"
Talia quickly passed over the question and brought up the person she really wanted to see.
"follow me."
Arkham Knight made a gesture of invitation and took Talia through the thick steel door into a completely enclosed iron house without any gaps.
In a room with nothing in it, Bruce Wayne was tied up with chains and hung on the ceiling, shaking constantly with the force of gravity.
The iron chains left bloody marks on his body. He was suspended in the air for a whole day without food or water, and even without seeing the light, but he was not affected at all and his eyes were still clear.
"Thalia, long time no see!"
Bruce wasn't surprised to see his former lover, it was like two old friends meeting by chance in the park.
"Bruce, you're still the same!"
Talia put Bruce down but did not remove the chains from him.
Seeing the bloody face of the man from the iron chain, she subconsciously wanted to reach out and wipe the blood off his face, but when she was about to get close, she took her hand back. Bruce's expression did not change at all. He looked at Talia and sighed, "Lars is resurrected again, right?"
"With your ability, it's not easy to unify the Assassin's League. It's almost impossible to make Penguin obey your orders and Bane become your ally."
"You're always so clever!"
The tenderness on Talia's face disappeared, and she returned to her coldness and said, "That's what I like about you, and I also hate that about you."
"Today we will accomplish what we failed to do all those years ago and destroy the Gotham you call your life."
"Hang him back up!"
Talia turned around ruthlessly and had the Arkham Knight hang Batman back and completely seal the cell.
"We can't knock him down, the best way is to kill him now."
As soon as he left the room, the Arkham Knight revealed his plans.
"No, I have another solution."
Talia decisively rejected the suggestion of "killing Batman" and said seriously: "I have another winning weapon against him."
"Who? I don't think anyone can break his will." The Arkham Knight was very sure of this.
"That's not necessarily true, little Jason!"
"Ha ha ha ha."
Hearing the horrible laughter coming from the darkness, the Arkham Knight glared at Talia, and after a moment, turned and left.
Martin dealt with Bane and handed Two-Face and Black Mask to Gordon first, and asked them to sit in a row with Falcone and Maroni for a live broadcast.
He doesn't show up, and drives the Batmobile to find Oracle moving on the Gotham freeway.
"So, you killed Bane?"
The Oracle looked at Martin with surprise as he took off his helmet.
"Don't be so surprised. I'm not the real Batman. And technically, Bane died in the explosion of his own guns."
The Oracle shook his head and did not argue the issue with Martin.
Except for Batman, everyone else has their own thoughts on the principle of not killing.
"It's almost midnight, I should go to bed."
Martin checked the time, moved closer to the Oracle, and asked, "How many people did Nightwing and Alfred recruit?"
The oracle tapped on the keyboard and made a list.
Deadshot, Cheshire Cat, Count Vertigo, Captain Javelin, Killer Croc...
"Is Nightwing still very efficient in his actions?"
Martin looked at the list and nodded with satisfaction.
The Oracle complained, "Most of these people were recruited by Alfred, but that doesn't really matter."
She held her forehead and asked Martin, "Do you really trust these criminals?"
“Trust is such a big word.”
Martin shook his head: "I just use them. When the critical moment comes, if they stay, I will have to worry about whether these people will do something naughty."
