Chapter 860 He Wants to Take You Flying! Eight Trigrams Palm and Acupuncture Master He Puren

Chapter 860 He Wants to Take You Flying! Baguazhang and Acupuncture Master He Puren (Two Chapters Combined)
I just read a book at home for a while, and now it's almost time for class.

Fang Yan didn't go to the dormitory and went straight to the classroom.

As soon as he entered the classroom, people began to arrive one after another. When they saw that Fang Yan was already sitting in the classroom, they all came over to greet him.

As Lao Fan mentioned today, he took leave at noon to treat a sick overseas Chinese businessman.

Song Jianzhong, who was unable to go, asked Fang Yan:

"How was your day, Brother Fang? Did it go smoothly?"

"Successfully." Fang Yan nodded.

Du Heng, who was standing to the side, asked:

"Isn't it difficult?"

He said in dialect:

"It's alright, not too big, just the right size to treat."

Du Heng laughed:

"Hey, you're being modest."

Just as they were about to ask about Fang Yan's medical case notes, Fang Yan spoke first:
"The patient's identity is sensitive today, so we cannot share the medical case with you at the moment."

“…”Everyone was speechless.

Some people who had originally wanted to come over and ask questions were now hesitant to do so.

Then they heard someone in dialect say:

"There are four more people tomorrow morning. Go ask Lao Liu for leave. You can be my assistants and come with me."

Upon hearing this, Song Jianzhong was the first to react and quickly said:
"Okay, okay! I'll definitely go."

Yan Yifan, who was standing to the side, also tentatively said:

"Brother Fang, can I join?"

“Brother Fang, count me in too!” Du Heng said.

Then everyone in the classroom arrived.

They're all here to ask for internship qualifications at Peking Union Medical College Hospital tomorrow.

Fang Yan said to them:

"Let's make it clear first, the number of participants is limited, a maximum of four. Any more than that would be too conspicuous and would disrupt the normal teaching of the class."

After saying that, he pointed at Li Zhengji and said:

"You should discuss it with the vice squad leader."

Li Zhengji was taken aback, then said:

There are still three spots available!

"Those who want to go, please sign up. We'll make a list and send people out one day at a time, so that everyone has a chance."

As he spoke, he picked up his notebook and pen, ready to arrange the order.

Hearing Li Zhengji's words, everyone was puzzled:

"How come there are only three spots left?"

“I want one spot,” Li Zhengji said matter-of-factly.

“……”Everyone was speechless.

Soon, more and more people joined the class, and Li Zhengji began writing down the names of everyone who wanted to go.

Without exception, everyone wanted to go.

However, considering that there may not be many overseas Chinese businessmen left, those who are ranked later in the queue are unlikely to have a chance.

Therefore, when Li Zhengji was sorting the people, he secretly considered it and put all his own people who had shares at the front.

For those students who don't have shares, it's all up to luck.

After the order was arranged, it was time for class to start.

In the afternoon, during another sharing session, Fang Yan told her homeroom teacher, Liu Duzhou, that she had something to do and needed to see Wang Yuchuan, and then she slipped away.

When it comes to sharing courses, aside from a few students in the class whose dialects are of some value, most of the dialects shared by others don't offer much inspiration.

He couldn't explain it clearly, so the system couldn't trigger it. In the past, he would have just listened.

There are more important things to do today.

When they arrived at the principal's office, Wang Yuchuan and Yue Meizhong were both inside.

They were still discussing the postgraduate program in Traditional Chinese Medicine when they saw Fang Yan arrive, which surprised them both.

"No classes this afternoon?" Yue Meizhong asked Fang Yan.

He said in dialect:

"They were having a sharing session, so I came out to ask Professor Yu Chuan some questions."

"Looking for me?" Wang Yuchuan asked, puzzled.

"Mm." Fang Yan nodded.

"Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases?" Wang Yuchuan asked.

Shaking his head in dialect:

"No."

"It's about balancing Yin and Yang, and regulating them in both directions."

Wang Yuchuan hadn't expected such a simple question; he found it somewhat unbelievable.

"This...is still stumping you?"

He said in dialect:

"It's not that difficult, but today I met an elderly lady who is an overseas Chinese businesswoman. When I was treating her, I encountered a rather complicated situation. Although she improved after taking the medicine, it didn't achieve the effect I wanted. So I thought I'd talk to you about it."

Upon hearing this, Wang Yuchuan nodded and said:
"Alright, tell me about it. It just so happens that Elder Yue is here too, and he can give you some advice."

Old Yue also said:

"Yes, go ahead and tell me. We will definitely not keep anything we know to ourselves."

"Here's what happened..." Fang Yan then recounted how he had treated Ms. Lü.

He explained it in great detail from beginning to end. Wang Yuchuan was afraid he wouldn't remember it, so he even took out a notebook and wrote down the parts he said in dialect.

After writing it down, a clear medical record appeared in the notebook.

After they finished writing it, they realized that things were far more complicated than they had imagined.

This is a rare disease that Western medicine cannot cure, but which has been successfully overcome by dialects today.

Although it doesn't have much practical significance, it once again proves that what Western medicine can't do, Traditional Chinese Medicine can cure by adjusting the body's Yin and Yang.

Moreover, the prescription used in this medical case using dialect is actually quite good based on current findings.

Wang Yuchuan and Yue Meizhong even felt that the dialect was being treated too harshly on the effect.

Yue Meizhong couldn't help but say:
"Isn't this great? It's already working by tonight. A few more doses and you'll be almost completely cured. You yourself told people that seven doses would be enough, and this is only the first dose, so the effect is definitely there."

He said in dialect:

“I feel there is still room for improvement. I wonder if Professor Tamagawa has any ideas.”

Wang Yuchuan asked:
Why are you so sure I have feelings for someone?

“Intuition!” Fang Yan said.

"Intuition?" Wang Yuchuan wondered.

The dialect explanation is as follows:
"I've read your book, and based on its contents, I feel that you must have better ideas than I do, but I can't quite figure it out yet."

Hearing this, Wang Yuchuan didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Is this acceptable?

Upon hearing this, Yue Meizhong said to Wang Yuchuan:
"Wow, listen to this! This is the first time I've ever seen him praise someone like this. Principal Wang, if you don't show some skill, this kid won't come to you again."

Wang Yuchuan said seriously:

"Let me take a closer look at the medical records and think about it."

"I've never encountered this rare disease before... If we're talking about improvement, we can only give it a try."

Fang Yan nodded, letting Professor Wang Yuchuan speak freely.

Whether or not it will be adopted at that time depends on the dialect itself.

Wang Yuchuan thought for a while before picking up his pen and starting to write.

He spent several minutes revising the medical case he had mentioned earlier in the dialect before finally finishing the revisions.

Then he spoke to Fang Yan:

"To be honest, I feel that your prescription is already very good. I don't think it needs to be changed unless necessary. But if it really needs to be changed, I would emphasize the point of seeking yin within yang. The core of your prescription is the mutual rooting of yin and yang, with warming yang as the auxiliary. The patient's illness has lasted for three years. I believe that prolonged illness will inevitably damage yin. Therefore, it is necessary to add yin-nourishing herbs to warming yang herbs such as aconite and cinnamon twig. Increase the amount of white peony root to 12g, and add 9g of wolfberry and 9g of privet fruit. This will prevent the warming and drying from damaging yin, and also help yin fluid to generate yang qi."

"Based on the principle of 'drawing yang from yin and drawing yin from yang' in the Inner Canon of Medicine, the ratio of Bupleurum and Scutellaria was adjusted to 9g of Bupleurum and 6g of Scutellaria to enhance the liver-soothing and heat-clearing effects; at the same time, 15g of Magnetite was used to subdue the deficient yang and resolve the patient's mixed contradiction of cold and heat, which is 'although he feels cold, he wants to drink cold water'."

"In addition, the patient has already shown 'pale tongue with yellow and greasy coating.' Excessive use of warming and yang may exacerbate damp heat. Reduce the amount of aconite and decoct it for a longer time to remove its toxicity. Reduce the amount of cinnamon twig to prevent dryness."

"I suggest you change the 9 grams of raw aconite and 9 grams of cinnamon twig in your original prescription to 6 grams each."

"In addition, the patient suffers from long-term mental confusion and excessive sweating. Dragon bone and oyster can astringe sweat and calm the mind, forming a synergistic effect with jujube seed. Therefore, 15g of dragon bone and 15g of oyster were added."

"Finally, optimize the method of decocting and taking the medicine. First decoct the aconite, magnetite, dragon bone, and oyster shell for 40 minutes, then add the other medicines and decoct together. Add 10 ml of honey to the decoction and take it with the medicine. This will not only alleviate the bitterness of Coptis chinensis, but also prevent the warm medicine from damaging the stomach."

"Ligustrum lucidum and wolfberry replenish true yin, repairing the patient's long-term depleted constitution from the root and reducing the risk of recurrence."

After hearing Professor Wang Yuchuan finish speaking, Fang Yan stroked his chin and mentally reviewed Professor Wang Yuchuan's thoughts.

This aligns well with Professor Tamagawa's expertise in using both hot and cold therapies.

Furthermore, it is more in line with the fact that the patient is female.

Previously, I overlooked one point regarding dialect: although the conditions described in the two medical cases are similar, the men and women are different.

Therefore, Professor Wang Yuchuan's revisions completely fixed this issue.

Fang Yan nodded and said:
"I'll give it a try tomorrow."

"It might have even better results."

Upon hearing this, Wang Yuchuan quickly said:

"Then I'll go together tomorrow."

He hadn't expected Fang Yan to be so decisive, immediately wanting to use his own plan. Wang Yuchuan, who was used to being cautious, felt quite taken aback.

However, upon closer reflection, I realized that I hadn't changed the main prescription of the dialect; I had only added some supplementary ingredients.

Thinking about this made me feel a little more at ease.

Fang Yan nodded and said to Professor Wang Yuchuan:
"Okay, then come to my house tomorrow morning, and we'll go to the hospital together... By the way, do you remember where I live?"

Wang Yuchuan nodded:

"Ok, I know!"

He said in dialect:

"If there's nothing else, I'll be going now. I still need to go see Old Master Cheng to talk about the Thirteen Ghost Needles."

Wang Yuchuan suddenly realized, and then nodded.

Fang Yan then said goodbye to him and Yue Meizhong and left.

Wang Yuchuan turned to look at the medical records written on the table, and then considered whether there was anything that needed to be improved.

At this moment, Yue Meizhong said to him:
"This kid is trying to curry favor with you."

"Huh?" Wang Yuchuan was taken aback and turned to look at Yue Meizhong.

Yue Meizhong said to him:
"Haven't you seen it yet?"

"What did you see?" Wang Yuchuan was a little confused.

Yue Meizhong said to Wang Yuchuan:
"Hey, this kid's prescription is actually good enough, but he insists on having you modify it for him, and then he wants to use it immediately tomorrow. Do you really think he doesn't have his own improvement plan? He just has to ask you?"

Wang Yuchuan wasn't stupid; he immediately realized:

"You mean... he contacted me on purpose?"

Yue Meizhong said:
"Of course, this is yet another rare disease that Western medicine cannot treat. He's waiting to cure the patient so that his name can be included when he reports it to his superiors."

"At that time, this achievement will not only belong to him, but to both of you."

"This..." Upon hearing this, Wang Yuchuan suddenly realized.

Realizing this too late, he slapped his thigh and said:

"I was so focused on how to modify the recipe that I didn't actually think of anything!"

"No wonder he immediately agreed to use my improved formula; so that's what he was after!" Yue Meizhong said to Wang Yuchuan.
"This kid is pretty good; he remembers the people around him when good things happen."

“He recruited several of us into his company as consultants before, but you weren’t included. Now he’s bringing you along.”

Wang Yuchuan thought about it and realized that it was indeed true.

Then Yue Meizhong added:

“Listen to what he just said. He went to find Lao Cheng to study the Thirteen Ghost Needles. If you ask me, it’s probably another medical case from this morning.”

"Hmm..." After hearing this, Wang Yuchuan felt even more strongly that Fang Yan was indeed doing this.

On the other side, Fang Yan had already left the school and was heading towards the research institute next door.

I wonder if Old Cheng is here right now.

After Fang Yan successfully entered the research institute, he headed towards the acupuncture research institute.

When they arrived at Mr. Cheng's office, they found the door open, but Mr. Cheng was inside receiving a guest.

Just as Fang Yan was hesitating whether to disturb him, Old Cheng had already seen him.

"Dialect?" Old Cheng called out towards the door.

"Hmm?" The other person in the room also looked towards the door.

Fang Yan greeted Old Cheng in the room:

"Busy now?"

"Aren't you in class?" Professor Cheng asked in surprise.

The dialect says:

"I took leave to come here. I originally came to see you because I had something to discuss, but you're busy here, so I'm planning to go back."

As he said that, he was leaving.

"No need, no need, come in quickly, I was just talking to you," Old Cheng called from behind.

Fang Yan paused, turned around and asked:

"Talk about me?"

Old Cheng waved his hand:

"Okay, come in quickly, let me introduce you."

Fang Yan walked in and saw a middle-aged man in a suit who looked rather robust.

The man wore gold-rimmed glasses and had his hair slicked back, making him look like an overseas Chinese who had returned from abroad.

Old Cheng spoke into the dialect:

"This is Professor He Puren, the vice president of our Huaxia Acupuncture Society and the president of the Capital Acupuncture Society, who just returned from Upper Walter."

"He's really something. Before he came back, he even received the Gold Knight Medal personally awarded by President Walter."

Fang Yan was stunned when he heard the name.

He Puren?
He was one of the first batch of National Masters of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the same cohort as Professor Cheng.

This person is also a master of acupuncture. Based on years of clinical practice, he has drawn on the strengths of various schools of thought and formed the academic idea that "many diseases are caused by qi stagnation, and the method is to use three channels to open up the meridians." He has created a unique acupuncture treatment system—He's Three Channels Acupuncture Method.

The forced communication method previously used in dialects (see chapters 96, 227, and 244) originated from one of his three communication methods.

Born in May 1926, with the courtesy name Shi Niu and the pen name Kong Shui, he hails from Shigui Village, Laishui County, Hebei Province, and is a representative inheritor of the traditional medicine project, a national intangible cultural heritage of China.

He is 52 years old this year.

In 1940, at the age of 14, he became an apprentice of Niu Zehua, a famous acupuncturist in Beijing.

Eight years later, in 1948, at the age of 22, he opened the He Puren Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic and practiced medicine independently.

In 1956, he was transferred to the Acupuncture Department of the Capital Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital as part of a joint public-private partnership.

In September 1973, the Republic of Upper Volta established diplomatic relations with China. During the period of diplomatic relations, China assisted Upper Volta in building hospitals, government office buildings, stadiums, and other projects, accepted international students, and sent medical teams to the country.

That year, He Puren went abroad to work in Upper Walter, where his acupuncture skills were highly praised.

Upper Volta was the old name of the West African country of Burkina Faso from 1958 to 1984. In 1984, then-President Thomas Sankala changed the name to Burkina Faso, meaning "Land of Gentlemen" or "Land of Dignity".

In 1978, He Puren returned to China and then served as the director of the acupuncture department at the Capital Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In 1990, he was designated as a renowned veteran TCM doctor in Beijing and was appointed as a mentor for inheritors of the academic experience of national-level renowned veteran TCM experts by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Personnel, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In 1997, he was included in the 12th edition of the Cambridge Biographical Centre's "International Who's Who" and "Who's Who in Australia and the Pacific".

In 2008, the research on the theory of "He's Three-Passage Acupuncture Method" and its application in the treatment of stroke won the third prize of the Science and Technology Award.

In 2009, he and Professor Cheng were awarded the first "National Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine" honorary title.

He is skilled in treating a variety of difficult and complicated diseases, including stroke, hypertension, vitiligo, and rheumatoid arthritis.

But it's not just his medical skills and acupuncture that are noteworthy.

His kung fu skills are also noteworthy.

He Puren had studied martial arts. Moreover, he was a third-generation successor of the Yin-style Baguazhang.

In 1943, 17-year-old He Puren met Zhang Jinchen, a disciple of Cao Zhongsheng, a second-generation master of Yin-style Baguazhang. Later, on Zhang Jinchen's strong recommendation, He Puren went to learn Yin-style Baguazhang from Cao Zhongsheng.

He has practiced Baguazhang for many years, integrating martial arts, qigong, and acupuncture.

His unique, rapid, painless acupuncture technique and skillful fire needle technique are, to some extent, due to his martial arts background.

Therefore, he also served as the vice president and honorary president of the Capital Baguazhang Research Association.

In some ways, he is very similar to dialects.

They all had martial arts training, and they all started making a name for themselves in the medical field at the age of twenty-two.

It's just that they speak dialects more frequently.

"Oh dear, it's all just empty fame, hahaha..." He Puren said to Old Cheng with a smile.

Old Cheng pointed to the dialect:

“This is Fang Yan, the one I just told you about.”

"Your master is Lu Donghua?"

Fang Yan was taken aback, not expecting the other party to start with such a sentence.

Could it be that he trained with Lao Lu?

"Yes," Fang Yan nodded in agreement.

He Puren said:
“I had heard of him in my early years, but I never had the chance to compete with him.”

Fang Yan breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.

As long as they're not Lao Lu's enemies, it's fine.

“He’s getting old now, he doesn’t fight anymore,” Fang Yan said.

He Puren said with some regret:

"That's a real shame..."

Fang Yan smiled but didn't respond.

With He Puren's size, even Lao Lu would have a tough time fighting him.

He Puren asked in dialect:

"I've heard quite a few stories from you just now. Are you the ones doing ear acupuncture in China?"

"It's still under research," Fang Yan said.

He didn't know how far Cheng Lao and the other party had progressed, so he could only give ambiguous answers in his dialect.

He Puren didn't seem to mind, and nodded, giving Fang Yan an approving look.
"The younger generation surpasses the older generation!"

Fang Yan cupped his hands in a respectful gesture.

"By the way, what brings you here?" Old Cheng asked Fang Yan.

He said in dialect:

"Oh, I treated an overseas Chinese businessman at noon, using the Thirteen Ghost Needles and Seven Ghost Needles. I'd like to share with you about it."

After saying that, he took out the book from his pocket:
"They also gave me a copy of 'The Complete Explanation of the Thirteen Ghost Needles,' which was copied from the Dunhuang Mogao Caves. The original was taken to the British Museum by Stein in 1907. My copy is a Republic of China-era facsimile, and the author is Sun Simiao himself."

Upon hearing about the Thirteen Needles of Ghosts, both He Puren and Cheng Xinnong were shocked.

Then he looked at the book in Fang Yan's hand.

The dialect was handed directly to Old Cheng.

He Puren looked at Fang Yan and asked:
"do not know……"

Before he could finish speaking, Fang Yan interrupted:
"Professor He can take a look if he wants, and he can also offer his advice."

"Thank you! Thank you!" He Puren clasped his hands together in gratitude to Fang Yan.

At this moment, Old Cheng asked Fang Yan:

"Who gave you this?"

Fang Yan didn't hide anything and said:

“Lu Yanni, the eldest daughter of the Huo family in Hong Kong.”

"Did you treat her?" Old Cheng asked.

"Mm." Fang Yan nodded.

He Puren turned his head; he had just heard Old Cheng say that he was treating overseas Chinese businessmen in dialect.

He asked in dialect:

"So you used the Thirteen Ghost Needles on her?"

“That’s not…” Fang Yan waved his hand.

Then explained:
"The Thirteen Ghost Needles were used on the Situ family, specifically on the grandson of Mr. Situ Meitang of the Zhigong Party."

He Puren looked at Elder Cheng in surprise and exclaimed:
"I've been away for so long, and now all the overseas Chinese businessmen returning to China for medical treatment are at this level?"

"..." He had just heard Old Cheng mention some relatively unknown overseas Chinese businessmen.

As a result, Fang Yan turned around and treated these two heavyweights.

Old Cheng had no choice but to say to him:
"It's not as good as you treating diseases for foreign presidents."

Hearing this, He Puren's expression turned strange, and he said:

"The president over there... never mind, you haven't been there so you wouldn't know, anyway, it's just like that."

After saying that, he turned to Fang Yan and asked:

"What's the story with that grandson of the Situ family?"

Fang Yan didn't hide anything from this acupuncture master who was on par with Master Cheng.

They immediately began discussing the medical case from noon.

He Puren was probably not used to the fact that the dialect could be used to explain the medical case in such detail.

Professor Cheng, however, was prepared and, like Professor Wang Yuchuan, picked up the notebook on the table and began to write.

With the explanation in the local dialect, a clear medical record of the Thirteen Ghost Needles treatment came to life on the page.

According to their local dialect accounts, they found the effects of the Thirteen Ghost Needles to be truly astonishing.

Old Cheng said to Fang Yan:

"You're really brave to use the Thirteen Ghost Needles on such a occasion for the first time. If it were me, I definitely wouldn't dare."

He Puren nodded as well. He realized that there was a reason why Fang Yan became famous at the age of twenty-two.

That kind of courage alone is something that not everyone possesses.

He said in dialect:

"Actually, before that, I also used the Thirteen Ghost Needles once."

"Huh?" The two were taken aback.

So it was tested on other people before; no wonder.

All that could be heard was a dialect voice saying:

"This person was also an overseas Chinese businessman; Zhang Xueliang was her maternal great-uncle."

Cheng Xinnong and He Puren: "..."
