Chapter 859: A Pistol Engraved with the Word "Healing the World"?

Chapter 859 A Pistol Engraved with the Word "Healing the World"? Seven Extremely Rare Overseas Unique Books (Bonus Chapter for Monthly Tickets)

Fang Yan held the pistol in his hand and noticed that the inscription on it read: Heckler & Koch P7K3 Shadow Compact.

The first part should be the model number, and the second part should be the name of the pistol.

The translation is something like a shadow pact, a phantom pact, or a ghost agreement.

The other side is engraved with the abbreviation SJ.

It is clearly an abbreviation of Situ Jie's name. If I'm not mistaken, this should be a custom-made handgun.

It feels substantial in your hand. It has a matte black coating, a lightweight alloy frame, and a compact size, measuring approximately 13cm in length, making it very easy to carry discreetly.

It also features a hammer-less design to prevent snagging on clothing and is suitable for quick draw.

There were no bullets in the box.

Fang Yan wasn't very familiar with handgun models, but he knew this should be a pocket self-defense handgun.

Although she didn't know the other party's situation, Fang Yan still decided to report it.

Fang Yan picked up the phone and called Director Liao's office.

His secretary answered the phone.

Upon hearing that it was a dialect, Director Liao answered the phone shortly afterward.

"Director Liao, do you remember the box that Situ Jie gave me? I just opened it and found a gun inside." Fang Yan didn't hide anything from Director Liao and went straight to the point.

Upon hearing this, Director Liao showed no surprise. Instead, he said:

"Oh, that's a gift he gave you."

"You know?" Fang Yan asked, puzzled.

Director Liao responded affirmatively:
"know."

"People say this is a very commemorative gun, which he customized from HK company in Germany."

“This model is not available on the market. It was an experimental model designed by HK for special agents a few years ago. It was not mass-produced because of its high cost. He obtained a customized version through his own channels.”

"..." Fang Yan was speechless.

Director Liao said:
"Don't worry, he declared it to us when he got off the plane. The bullets were turned in before he handed it over to you. Now it's just an empty gun. You can keep it as a souvenir."

"So, it's not illegal for me to have it, right?" Fang Yan asked.

Director Liao said on the phone:
"Of course, it fully complies with the 1951 Provisional Regulations on Firearms Control."

The dialect response was:

"okay, I get it."

After speaking in dialect, he would hang up the phone.

Director Liao then said on the phone:

"By the way, regarding the Traditional Chinese Medicine Foundation, we just discussed it and decided that it can be implemented."

“Okay!” Fang Yan replied.

Fang Yan didn't think there was anything unexpected about the foundation. Only a fool wouldn't want to spend money to train TCM talents for the country.

"Also, there are four overseas Chinese businessmen coming tomorrow at noon. Make some preparations," Director Liao added.

"Okay," Fang Yan replied.

Four people isn't a lot.

It shouldn't be as difficult to treat as it is today.

After hanging up the phone, Fang Yan looked at the gun again.

The safety mechanism is a double-action trigger linked to the grip safety to prevent accidental discharge.

Fang Yan stuffed the pistol into his sleeve, and it was immediately hidden.

I haven't carried the Iron Birch Double Sticks for a while now, but thankfully my skills in hiding things in my sleeves haven't diminished.

But I don't need it myself.

Moreover, even if we were to use them, bullets would be a problem.

Upon opening the gun's magazine, Fang Yan discovered it was a 6-round single-stack magazine.

Then he saw something that left him speechless.

Inside the magazine well, he saw newly engraved seal script with the four characters "悬壶济世" (meaning "to hang a gourd and save the world").

This was clearly arranged by Situ Jie before he sent the gift.

This is to show respect for the dialect.

But... isn't it a bit inappropriate for you to be using a gun to carve out a medical healer?
Fang Yan shook his head and put the gun back in the box.

Finally, I put it in the hidden compartment under the bed.

This thing is only good for decoration, but it is quite memorable. No other gifts are as strange as this one.

After putting away the dialect, I opened the book that Ms. Lü had given me.

Each book was wrapped tightly in layers of packaging, and when you opened it, you could smell the musty smell that is unique to old books.

This is caused by the humid air in the south.

In ancient times, people often took their books out to air them, partly to get rid of the smell.

The books in the room with the dialect don't have this smell.

There are seven books in total. Three of them are a set of three volumes.

The title is "Supplement to the Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases".

The author was Wang Shuhe, a disciple of Zhang Zhongjing during the Jin Dynasty.

The content includes 39 classic prescriptions and pulse diagnosis techniques that Zhang Zhongjing did not publish in his later years, including the lost "Five Elements and Six Qi Acupuncture Method".

The book is a handwritten copy by Heo Jun, a Korean physician during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It has Korean and Japanese annotations. According to the title page, this set of books contains 17 key differences from the Song Dynasty version of "Treatise on Febrile Diseases". The Japanese physician Hamada Toshiaki added annotations in 1904.

Additionally, it bears the stamp of a British auction house.

It must have been taken from someone overseas.

The fourth book is: *Shennong's Relics*.

The compiler was Tao Hongjing of the Southern Liang Dynasty.

This book includes 82 kinds of Lingnan medicinal herbs that were not recorded in the Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica, including the secret processing method of the [Danxia Dendrobium] which was extinct in the Tang Dynasty.

It originated from a Tang Dynasty manuscript from the Shosoin Repository in Japan, which was exported overseas during the Meiji period and has been stamped by several auction houses.

The fifth and sixth books are "Tai Su Mai Jue" (太素脉诀).

The author is Yang Shangshan from the Sui and Tang dynasties.

Two volumes.

The book contains a diagnostic method called "Diagnosis of Illnesses by Fate Analysis," which predicts the timeframe for the progression of diseases through pulse diagnosis and includes 29 color pulse position charts.

This version is from the Imperial Medical Bureau of Yuan Dynasty. It was taken to Southeast Asia by Zheng He's fleet in the early Ming Dynasty. It does not have the seal of an auction house, but it has annotations from several different people. It has the strongest musty smell, so it should have been received from Southeast Asia.

The last book is: "The Complete Explanation of the Thirteen Ghost Needles".

Upon seeing the name, Fang Yan was startled.

Upon seeing the author, he almost stood up.

The author is Sun Simiao.

In addition to the existing 13 acupuncture techniques, it also records 5 forbidden acupuncture techniques such as "Ghost Seal" and "Ghost Hall" as well as the key points for releasing acupoints.

Originally a Dunhuang manuscript, it was taken to the British Museum by Stein in 1907. This is a Republic of China-era copy, likely obtained from a doctor in Hong Kong.

There are also some annotations by this doctor above.

These ancient books are all unique copies that have been returned from overseas.

Each one is quite valuable.

The contents of this book are all things that are not available in China, and there are seven of them.

The key point is that although it's a bit moldy and has some personal notes, it doesn't affect the content inside.

You can learn a lot about dialects by simply reading them.

Which book should I read first?

Let's go with the Thirteen Ghost Needles!

I just happened to watch this recently, so it should match up with the description!
He took a look without hesitation, not caring about the miniature pistol; this medical book was far more appealing than a gun without bullets.

Before we knew it, it was lunchtime.

Fang Yan only came to her senses when she heard the voices outside the door opening and speaking.

Fang Yan glanced at his watch, put the book in his pocket, then put away the other six books before going out for lunch.

During lunch, Fang Yan chatted with her family about today's treatment process.

He also mentioned that the Huo family pays consultants a monthly salary of $10,000.

Everyone was surprised to hear this.

Ten thousand a month, in US dollars.

In an era when the average monthly salary in the country was only 30 to 40 months, this was an unimaginable salary.

Moreover, this is without treating the illness; those who treat the illness receive even more.

This is what it means to have a salary that is already in line with international standards even though you haven't been abroad yet.

In addition, Fang Yan also mentioned that Situ Jie gave him an empty gun, with the words "Helping the world with medicine" engraved on the inside of the magazine well.

This left the rest of the family speechless.

After lunch, Fang Yan read for a while longer before taking the unfinished "Complete Explanation of the Thirteen Ghost Needles" to school.

I need to see Professor Wang Yuchuan this afternoon to discuss Ms. Lü's treatment method.

Since they've given us so many good things, Fangyan should also work on her treatment plan.

After get off work, I also need to go see Master Cheng. The old man has spent his whole life studying acupuncture. If I show him the complete explanation of the Thirteen Ghost Needles, he will probably be quite happy.

Moreover, Fang Yan plans to finish reading the entire book this afternoon.

Then bless it.

This way, I can also combine today's treatment with real-world practice and discuss my deeper insights with Professor Cheng.

PS: I got another 100 monthly votes, so after finishing this chapter, I still owe everyone 53000 words.

That's all for today, please come early tomorrow.

Old Feng is off to work tomorrow.
