Chapter 615, Part 29: Departure
Chapter 615, Section 29: Departure
Lying inside the shock-absorbing cotton was a Malorian pistol with a cold, matte finish. The hand-carved flame pattern on the gun body was still clearly visible, and there were several obvious wear marks on the grip—the marks left by a rock 'n' roll fanatic pulling the trigger frantically over the past fifty years.
“Damn it.” Johnny’s projection suddenly froze, the noise of the hologram eerily stilled in mid-air, the mechanical dog’s body trembled slightly, and the aperture of the prosthetic eye kept expanding and contracting: “Malorian 3516, it really is it.”
Carl gently picked up the pistol; its heavy weight made him raise an eyebrow. This legendary weapon was more substantial than he had imagined—not only physically, but also historically. He turned the gun around, examining every detail in the dim light:
The modified magazine well is compatible with 90% of the ammunition on the market, and the smart connection interface on the side of the barrel is rusty but still works perfectly.
“Three firing modes,” Carl muttered, reciting the gun’s features he’d heard about. “Ricochet, wall-penetrating, and incendiary. The bullets heat up and burn upon impact, and each shot is as powerful as an anti-tank gun. Only a modified prosthetic arm can handle it. It seems to live up to its reputation.”
Johnny's projection suddenly erupted with a burst of static: "Damn, I feel like you're more serious about praising the gun than praising the person."
Carl paid no heed, his fingers tracing the trigger guard. He could imagine that night fifty years ago, when the gun spewed fire from the top of the Arasaka Tower—just like its owner, roaring until its death.
“You know what,” Carl suddenly smiled slightly, “I’ve been thinking that this gun should be very easy to use.”
"Fuck you."
Johnny saw right through Carl's plan: "I'm still here, and you're already thinking about taking my gun for fun?"
"Don't be so stingy, Johnny. I'll just beg you."
Carl was really quite fond of it. He picked up the slightly heavy Malorian 3516 and twirled it around, finding that the gun was perfect for spinning in his hand. So, as he twirled it, he said, "Guns are meant to be used, you know. You can't use it like this, can you?"
"I can fire a gun using my prosthetic limbs!"
That's what they say, but Johnny glanced at Carl and said, "I'll let you have your fun this time."
"Okay, once in a while."
As the saying goes, practice makes perfect.
Assisting the NCPD today, Carl felt he had come to the right place. Not only did he get a car, but he also got a gun; he hoped this kind of good fortune would happen more often.
He recalled a time when he and Li De were passing through the Dogtown tunnel and encountered a situation where the "flat-top" gun couldn't penetrate their armor. If they had had this Malorian 3516 back then, the outcome might have been very different.
The Mallorian 3516 is indeed a powerful gun. It's already quite remarkable for an ordinary firearm to have either a ricochet or wall-penetrating capability, let alone smart connectivity, but the Mallorian 3516 has both.
After checking its performance, Carl discovered that even by today's standards, it is among the best. It has to be said that after the data crash of the past, the absurd notion that the older the better has actually come true.
Of course, the Malorian 3516 wasn't without its flaws; its uncontrollable recoil was one of its shortcomings. But for someone like Carl, whose arms were somewhat special, like Johnny's silver hands, the gun grew increasingly comfortable with him. If Johnny hadn't been watching him, he would have already been looking for an opportunity to pocket it.
If Carl had this idea, how could Johnny Silverhand, the old smoker, not see what he was planning?
“I’ll say it again, Carl, don’t even think about taking my pistol away from me like you’re carrying a lighter without me noticing. Just this once, I’m watching you closely. This gun was custom-made for me, and it’s the only one I have. I won’t give it to anyone else who wants it.”
"What are you saying? Do I really think I'm that kind of person?" Carl said, but Johnny Silverhand's words gave him another idea.
He had discussed the topic of custom-made guns with Oliver and the others before, and perhaps after this, he could really find a good gun company and ask them to start making them. If possible, Carl touched the three guns that belonged to him.
Karl wonders if there's a company that can combine the functions of the kinetic weapon "Nightfall," the technological weapon "Kenxin," and the intelligent weapon "Yinglong." If he were to order custom-made guns, these three might have to be retired, but Karl still wants their parts to be able to be put together to accompany him.
After all, apart from Yinglong, they are all old buddies.
A firearm with the destructive power of a kinetic weapon, the penetrating power of a technological weapon, and the intelligent connectivity of a smart weapon, is similar to Johnny Silverhand's Mallorian 3516. I wonder which company could achieve that.
Carl knew of many famous military manufacturing companies, but he only had connections with two: Military Technology and Arasaka. Both companies were involved in the military field and were constantly developing new weapons. However, the weapons developed by these two companies were basically for popularization, since more guns used by more people would generate more profit. They might not accept orders for custom-made weapons like these.
Mallory Firearms, the company that made the Mallory 3516 for Johnny, still exists in 2077. Although it's said that the company hasn't released any new gun models since 2000, it seems they're still doing custom work, though it's unclear whether they're willing to take orders.
After all, the reason this renowned weapons manufacturing company was willing to take on custom orders was because its owner and operator, Elan Marul, was an American veteran. He had a favorable impression of people from similar backgrounds, which is why he commissioned weapons for legends like Johnny Silverhand and Morgan Blackhand. If it were Karl, a mercenary with no military background...
"Let's ask first."
As Carl thought this, he watched Johnny pull out a cloth from somewhere and roughly wipe the car clean.
The Porsche 911, driven by Johnny, emitted a deep engine hum as it slowly drove out of the container. Carl took Johnny's silver arm and stepped out of the container as well, where he happened to run into Andy, who was walking from a distance.
"Have you identified the seller of the dangerous prosthetic body?" Karl asked.
“Yes, they’re using the dock’s cargo for dangerous transport. The route isn’t hard to trace. They don’t intend to ship by sea; they’re just using this place as a transit point. So, all we need to do is determine when the truck carrying the dangerous prosthetics arrived and search the city’s surveillance footage,” Andy replied, noticing Johnny Silverhand’s car.
This car is
As Andy was examining the car, Johnny Silverhands poked his head out from the driver's seat and said, "What are you waiting for? Get in. Where do you want to go? I'll take you for a spin."
Andy and Carl exchanged a glance, and then walked over in perfect unison.
Carl sat in the passenger seat, while Andy...
He picked up Johnny Silver Hands, sat in the driver's seat, and placed Johnny on his lap.
Under the watchful eye of the iron block, the dog drove away, taking with him the two people who had come to search for dangerous items—who, in his eyes, were the dangerous ones.
He blinked his four prosthetic eyes, glanced at the law enforcement officers parked next to the port area entrance, hesitated for a moment, and finally told his men to keep an eye on the car so it wouldn't be lost.
The NCPD officers and KK swaggered away, but they couldn't just let it go like that.
However, when the Vortex Gang members walked over, they discovered that there were people in the law enforcement vehicle.
The new recruit in the NCPD Special Operations Unit had been sitting in the car for a long time, preparing a way out for his seniors and KK, only to find that the two had already forgotten about him.
