Chapter 66 Don't you feel sorry for me?

Huo Jingyuan got off his bicycle, stood next to Wen Ci, his eyes slightly upturned, and introduced her with a lazy smile in his voice:
"This is my lover, Wen Ci."

Upon hearing this, Wen Ci smiled gently and nodded slightly as she looked at the group.

"Then you'll have to come to the meeting too, sister-in-law."

Wen Ci looked at Huo Jingyuan with a puzzled expression. She had just heard that it was a meeting for the families of newly arrived soldiers. She shouldn't be considered a newcomer, right?
She blinked and asked, "I shouldn't be considered a new family member, right? Do I still have to attend your meeting?"

"Yes, all family members must attend."

Wen Ci nodded obediently.

After those people left, Wen Ci glanced at the man's handsome face and said slowly, "I don't need this car, you can use it yourself."

"Then I'll pick you up from get off work."

Wen Ci: "..."

This old-fashioned bicycle is probably the first of its kind in the entire Northwest Military Region. If Huo Jingyuan were to drive me to and from get off work, it would definitely become the center of attention.

Huo Jingyuan noticed Wen Ci's expression of rejection. He raised a single eyebrow, his deep eyes seeming to be pondering something. After a moment, he said, "If you really don't like it, then I'll give this car to the winner of Devil Week?"

“Okay.” Wen Ci nodded.

Hell Week is a training program that pushes soldiers to their physical limits; there are only punishments and no rewards. Sending this bicycle out can unleash the soldiers' potential.

"Aren't you heartbroken?" Huo Jingyuan asked.

Wen Ci licked her lips; it would be a lie to say she wasn't heartbroken. That was a classic old-fashioned bicycle, though it wasn't very useful in the Northwest Military Region: "I'm not heartbroken."
-
When Wen Ci arrived at the open space of the family compound, many family members had already gathered around, and several large round tables were set with melon seeds, biscuits, and tea.

Zhu Jing and the others had saved a seat for Wen Ci, and immediately waved to her when they saw her arrive: "Wen Ci, here you are, we saved a seat for you."

Wen Ci sat down and asked curiously, "What kind of meeting is Sister Jing having?"

"I don't know, they've notified all military families to be present," Zhu Jing replied while cracking sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds and biscuits are things ordinary families only buy for the Lunar New Year.

Everyone is happy to eat for free.

Xiang Qin grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds and handed them to Wen Ci, asking with a gossipy look, "I just heard that Commander Huo rode a 28-inch bicycle to the family compound?"

"Don't like it?"

Wen Ci nodded and lowered his voice: "That's too ostentatious. It's only a few minutes' walk in the Northwest Military Region. Why would you need a bicycle?"

"That's right."

The group chatted, and their voices inevitably became noisy in a place with many women. However, since they were all military family members, they quickly became friends.

"This girl is really pretty."

Suddenly, Wen Ci heard a few words praising her. She maintained a stiff smile and then felt the gazes of many people.

"Hmm, her skin looks so tender and fair. She's definitely a hardworking wife. I wonder which man is so lucky."

Wen Ci: "..."

She wasn't diligent at all; Huo Jingyuan did most of the housework, and she usually just washed the dishes, while Huo Jingyuan cooked.

The second batch of military dependents included several who were in their fifties or sixties and were coming to the Northwest Military Region to retire after the family compound was completed.

Zhu Jing introduced Wen Ci: "The sister-in-law who just praised you is the wife of the deputy commander of the Fifth Regiment, and the one sitting next to her is the wife of the commander of the Fifth Regiment."
