Chapter 223 Yu Wanqiu Zhou Chongli

Chapter 223 Yu Wanqiu × Zhou Chongli (7)

Shi Yang went back to the company headquarters; there was some work to take care of.

He is currently in the rising phase of his career and is highly valued by his superiors. If all goes well, he is very likely to be promoted to director by the end of the year.

Yu Wanqiu didn't want to ruin his career because of her.

Between love and career, the latter is of course more important.

He's so outstanding, he'll find someone even better in the future.

That night before going to bed, Shi Yang called as usual to ask her what she had done that day.

Yu Wanqiu told the truth that he stayed in the hotel all day and didn't go anywhere else.

He then asked, "Qiuqiu, have the documents arrived yet?"

Yu Wanqiu gripped her phone tightly, a lump forming in her throat, her voice choked with emotion. "Shi Yang, I'm sorry, I... can't marry you."

Shi Yang was stunned for a few seconds. His first reaction was disbelief. "Qiuqiu, are you kidding me? Today is not April Fool's Day. Don't scare me."

Yu Wanqiu's fingertips trembled as she tried her best to suppress her emotions. "I'm not joking with you. I'm really sorry, but I still feel that we're not a good match."

Shi Yang asked urgently, "Qiuqiu, why? Is there something I didn't do well? Tell me, I can change it..."

Yu Wanqiu interrupted him, "No, you're fine. The one who's not fine is me."

"I'm sorry, but... let's not contact each other anymore."

After saying that, she immediately hung up the phone and turned it off.

She sat on the ground, hugging her knees, tears streaming down her face, soaking her eyes.

The sobs escaped intermittently, broken and fragmented.

The next day.

Zhou Chongli came to the hotel to pick up Yu Wanqiu and took her back to the villa on Victoria Peak.

She didn't have much stuff; she only had one suitcase.

We originally planned to go back to Vancouver after getting our marriage certificate, but it turned into a breakup.

She shouldn't have gone back to China.

When Zhou Chongli saw her red and swollen eyes, the words of concern stuck in his throat, and he couldn't bring himself to say them.

Yu Wanqiu probably hated him to the core.

As soon as she got on the bus, she closed her eyes and leaned back in her seat to rest, without saying a word to Zhou Chongli.

At first, I was just dozing off, but later I drifted off to sleep.

She hasn't had a good night's sleep this week, and her appetite is terrible; she doesn't want to eat anything.

I woke up just as I arrived at Victoria Peak.

Yu Wanqiu calmed herself down and was about to raise her hand to rub her eyes when she realized that a thin blanket was covering her.

She glanced to the side instinctively, and her eyes met Zhou Chongli's.

In an instant, she looked away, pulled off the blanket, and gazed out the window.

The area hasn't changed much; the vegetation is lush, the trees are towering, and the roadside signs are old and outdated.

The car wound its way up the mountain road and into the affluent area, arriving at the villa's main entrance fifteen minutes later.

Zhou Chongli spoke up, "Get out of the car."

Yu Wanqiu pushed open the car door and stepped out of the carriage.

This wasn't her first time here, and she never imagined she'd be back.

Fate seemed to be playing tricks on her. The maid heard the noise outside and came out of the house.

A middle-aged woman excitedly stepped forward, "Xiao Qiu, you're back! I never thought the master would actually bring you back!"

Yu Wanqiu snapped out of her reverie, looked at the familiar face before her, and greeted her, "Aunt Qin, it's been a long time."

During the years she was with Zhou Chongli, Aunt Qin always took care of her and treated her very well.

Aunt Qin grasped her hand, looking her up and down, "It's been five or six years since we last met, haven't it? How have you been these past few years?"

She looks much thinner, and her complexion is also a bit poor.

Yu Wanqiu nodded gently, "I'm fine."

Aunt Qin patted the back of her hand, "That's good."

The driver helped take the suitcase down.

Upon entering the living room, Yu Wanqiu spoke her first words to Zhou Chongli, "Where is my room?"

Zhou Chongli didn't want to pressure her too much, "It's still the second floor, you can choose whichever room you like."

Without hesitation, Yu Wanqiu said, "I want the one on the far right."

Because that's the furthest place from the master bedroom.

Zhou Chongli knew perfectly well what was going on. "Tell me what you need, or tell the housekeeper, and she will get it for you."

Yu Wanqiu declined, "No need, I'll buy it myself."

Aunt Qin found their way of getting along very strange, as it was quite different from how they had been a few years ago.

In the past, Xiao Qiu always spoke softly and greeted Mr. Xi with a smile, and always went along with him. But now, all that seems to remain is indifference.

The days that followed proved her suspicions true.

Yu Wanqiu stayed in her room all day, only coming downstairs to eat. She hardly spoke to Zhou Chongli, treating him like a stranger.

Many times, when Zhou Chongli tried to start a conversation, she would ignore him.

The servants were all worried for her when they saw this.

Everyone knows that Mr. Zhou has a bad temper and he is always the one who gets flattered and fawned over; he never bows his head.

Surprisingly, he wasn't angry; his expression showed more helplessness.

Zhou Chongli used to be busy until 9 or 10 p.m. before he would come home. But since Yu Wanqiu came, he gets home no later than 7 p.m.

One day, he was dealing with a tricky project contract and didn't return to his villa until after eight o'clock.

It was quiet downstairs, with only a few servants busy with their own tasks.

Zhou Chongli took off his coat and glanced upstairs. "Has she had dinner?"

Aunt Qin shook her head. "Xiao Qiu said she didn't want to eat today. I noticed she didn't look well, so I asked her if she wasn't feeling well. She said she would feel better after a nap."

Zhou Chongli frowned, still worried, and went upstairs to knock on her door himself.

Yu Wanqiu was a light sleeper and was awakened by the knocking. Dragging her tired body out of bed to open the door, her eyes fell on those straight and slender legs, and she swallowed back the words she wanted to say.

She thought it was Aunt Qin.

Zhou Chongli opened his mouth and said, "Let's go downstairs and get something to eat."

"I don't want to eat," Yu Wanqiu said softly, preparing to close the door.

Zhou Chongli reacted quickly and grabbed her wrist, saying, "Don't joke around with your health."
