Chapter 386 These mechanisms look dangerous
Chapter 386 These mechanisms look dangerous
"Can you feel it?" Rowan suddenly stopped mid-walk. "The psychic fluctuations here are getting stronger and stronger."
“Indeed, and it seems to follow some kind of pattern,” Luo Feng sensed carefully, “like a heartbeat, in bursts.”
“Perhaps this pyramid itself is a giant telekinetic device,” Rowan speculated. “Ancient civilizations may have used it for some kind of special practice or research.”
The two continued forward and soon arrived at a spacious hall. In the center of the hall stood a huge circular stone platform, its surface engraved with intricate magic array patterns. Around the platform were a dozen tall stone pillars, each topped with a glowing crystal ball.
“This looks like some kind of altar,” Luo Feng observed the structure of the stone platform. “It was probably used for important ceremonies.”
“These crystal balls are special,” Rowan said, approaching one of the stone pillars and carefully observing the suspended crystal ball. “They seem to contain some kind of special energy.”
Just as Rowan reached out to touch the crystal ball, the entire hall suddenly blazed with a blinding light. All the crystal balls began to flicker violently, and the magic circle patterns on the stone platform also lit up, emitting a low hum.
"Oh no, we've triggered some kind of mechanism!" Luo Feng hurriedly took a few steps back.
However, to their surprise, the light did not bring any danger. On the contrary, as the light intensified, a phantom figure slowly emerged in the center of the stone platform.
This was a tall figure clad in a magnificent robe, its face indistinct, yet exuding an aura of majesty and antiquity. Once the figure solidified completely, it spoke, its voice echoing throughout the hall.
"Welcome, unfamiliar visitor, to the temple of the Ezra civilization."
Although an ancient language was used, both Luo Wen and Luo Feng could understand its meaning, as if the words had been directly transmitted into their consciousness.
"Are you... the guardian of this civilization?" Rowan asked cautiously.
“I am Silas, the last guardian of the Ezra civilization,” the illusory figure replied. “My mission is to protect the knowledge here and await the arrival of those destined to find it.”
"A destined person?" Luo Feng asked疑惑地, "What kind of person qualifies as a destined person?"
“Those who can enter this temple are destined,” Silas explained, “because only beings with specific psychic abilities can open the temple’s entrance.”
"Then can you tell us if there's anything special here?" Rowan asked directly.
"This place preserves the most precious knowledge and technology of the Ezra civilization," Silas said with a hint of pride, "including advanced methods of telekinesis, the mysteries of spatial technology, and preliminary explorations of the laws of time."
Upon hearing this, excitement gleamed in the eyes of both Luo Wen and Luo Feng. This knowledge was indeed extremely valuable to them, especially the advanced methods of cultivating mental power, which was exactly what Luo Wen needed right now.
"Can we learn this knowledge?" Luo Feng asked eagerly.
“Of course, that’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for,” Silas nodded. “However, learning this knowledge takes time, and you must prove your aptitude through a series of trials.”
"What kind of trial?" Rowan asked.
“Trials of telekinesis, tests of willpower, and tests of understanding the laws of the universe,” Silas explained in detail. “Only those who pass all the trials can receive the complete inheritance.”
Just as the two were preparing to undergo the trial, a commotion suddenly arose outside the pyramid. Through some mysterious means of perception, Silas's expression turned serious.
“Others are coming, and they’re hostile,” Silas warned. “Looks like you’re in trouble.”
Luo Wen and Luo Feng exchanged a glance, both understanding what this meant. The Black Shark Mercenary Group had definitely found the pyramid and was entering it.
“We have to get out of here,” Rowan said decisively. “If they find us, we’ll be in big trouble.”
"But Luo Feng was reluctant to part with this precious knowledge."
“Passing on traditions can wait, but life cannot,” Silas said. “If you are truly destined to be here, you will have the opportunity to return in the future.”
As he spoke, Silas waved his hand, drawing a complex rune in the air. "This is a secret passage leading deep into the temple. You can leave from there and avoid the enemies outside."
One wall of the pyramid suddenly disappeared, revealing a hidden passage.
“Thank you for your help,” Rowan bowed to Silas. “If we have the chance, we will definitely return to complete the trial.”
“I will wait,” Silas’s figure began to blur, “Remember, true power comes from inner cultivation, not from external treasures.”
The two quickly entered the secret passage, and after taking only a few steps, they heard rough noises coming from the hall.
"Damn it, there's nothing here!" This was Karl's angry curse.
"Commander, these runes on the wall look quite valuable," Old Wu's voice came through. "Perhaps we can record them and study them later."
"Enough with the nonsense, hurry up and find another way out," Karl said impatiently. "Those two brats must be here; they couldn't have just vanished into thin air."
Hearing this, Luo Wen and Luo Feng quickened their pace. The secret passage was long and continued downwards, clearly leading to deeper areas of the pyramid.
After walking for about ten minutes, the two arrived at another hall. This hall was smaller than the previous one, but more exquisitely decorated. In the center of the hall was a high platform, on which various strange devices and utensils were displayed.
"What are these?" Luo Feng asked curiously, observing the devices.
“It looks like some kind of experimental equipment,” Rowan analyzed. “Perhaps it was used by an ancient civilization to study telekinesis.”
Just then, footsteps suddenly came from another entrance to the hall. Luo Wen and Luo Feng immediately became alert; it seemed the Black Shark Mercenary Group had found them faster than they had imagined.
"Quickly hide," Rowan whispered, and the two quickly hid behind a stone pillar on one side of the hall.
Soon, Karl led the remaining team members into the hall. When they saw the device on the platform, their eyes gleamed with greed.
"See those? These are treasures from ancient civilizations!" Karl exclaimed excitedly. "Any one of them could fetch an astronomical price!"
"Commander, should we take them all?" Old Wu asked.
“Of course we’ll take it all,” Carl answered without hesitation. “This is our chance to make a fortune!”
The team members began collecting the devices on the platform, their movements as rough as if they were moving ordinary cargo, completely disregarding the fact that these were potentially priceless ancient artifacts.
“These barbarians,” Luo Feng watched their actions, unable to contain his anger, “treating the heritage of an ancient civilization like this.” “Don’t be impulsive, we’re no match for them right now,” Rowan said, pressing Luo Feng’s shoulder. “We’ll act after they leave.”
However, things didn't go according to plan. Just as the Black Shark Mercenary Group was collecting treasures, Old Wu suddenly pointed to a corner of the platform and said, "Captain, look there, it looks like someone's been here."
Carl immediately went over to examine it closely and indeed found some footprints and other traces.
“Someone was indeed here, and not for long,” Carl’s eyes turned dangerous. “It seems those two brats are still alive, and they got here before us.”
"Could they have already taken the best treasure?" one of the team members asked worriedly.
“Very likely,” Karl said through gritted teeth. “Damn it, I knew those two were up to something. They must have gotten their hands on the most valuable treasure and gone into hiding.”
"Commander, how do we find them?" Old Wu asked.
"Search the entire pyramid," Karl coldly ordered. "Find them alive or dead. Since they took our treasure, they must pay the price."
Hearing this, Luo Wen and Luo Feng felt a deep sense of helplessness. They hadn't taken any treasure at all, but explaining was useless now. In the eyes of someone like Karl, any explanation was just sophistry.
“We must get out of here immediately,” Rowan said in a low voice. “They’re convinced we’ve taken the treasure and won’t listen to any explanations.”
"But how are we going to get out?" Luo Feng asked worriedly. "They'll definitely block all the exits."
"First, find a way to avoid them, then look for other exits," Rowan calmly analyzed. "This pyramid is so big, there must be more than one exit."
The two began to quietly leave the hall, but just then, a member of the search team suddenly discovered their hiding place.
"Commander! They're here!" the team member shouted.
"Catch them!" Carl ordered immediately. "Don't let them get away!"
Luo Wen and Luo Feng could no longer hide and immediately rushed out from behind the stone pillars, running towards another exit of the hall.
"Halt! You two little thieves!" Karl roared angrily, "Hand over the treasure!"
"We didn't take any treasure!" Luo Feng shouted as he ran, "It's a misunderstanding!"
"Still trying to deny it!" Old Wu raised his weapon and aimed it at the two men. "You were the ones who got here first. If you didn't take the treasure, whose would it be?"
“We really didn’t!” Rowan tried to explain, but clearly no one believed him.
A high-energy laser beam shot from behind, and Luo Wen and Luo Feng could only desperately dodge. Although they were stronger than these mercenaries, in this confined space, a rash counterattack might damage the ancient building and completely expose their true strength.
"Damn, they're so fast!" one of the team members shouted as they chased after them. "These two guys are no ordinary people!"
“I’ve suspected they’re up to something for a while now,” Karl sneered. “Now it seems they were after the treasure from the start. Maybe even their previous ordeal was an act!”
This misunderstanding left Luo Wen and Luo Feng feeling extremely helpless, but now was not the time to explain. They had to shake off the pursuit first, and then figure out a way to prove their innocence.
"This way!" Luo Wen spotted an upward passage and immediately pulled Luo Feng inside.
The passage was narrow, only wide enough for one person to pass at a time, which slowed down the pursuit to some extent. But Karl and his men were clearly not going to give up easily, and their footsteps followed closely behind.
"You little devils, you can't escape!" Karl's voice echoed through the passageway. "This pyramid isn't that big; we have plenty of time to search!"
“And you’ll have to get out eventually,” Old Wu added, “We’ll be waiting for you at the exit!”
Luo Wen and Luo Feng continued running through the passage, both pondering a solution. The situation was dire for them; not only were they mistaken for thieves, but they were also trapped inside this ancient building.
“We can’t keep running like this,” Luo Feng said breathlessly. “We have to find a way to get rid of them.”
“I know, but we have limited options right now,” Rowan replied, “unless…”
“Unless what?”
“Unless we reveal our true strength and defeat them outright,” Rowan said, “we all know the consequences of doing so.”
Indeed, if they revealed their stellar-level strength, they could easily defeat the remaining members of the Black Shark Mercenary Group. However, doing so would not only completely expose their identities but could also attract unnecessary attention throughout the universe.
“Perhaps we can think of other ways,” Luo Feng suggested, “such as using the mechanisms of this pyramid to get rid of them.”
“Good idea,” Rowan’s eyes lit up. “The ancient mechanisms here might be helpful to us, but they’re obstacles for them.”
The two began to look for runes and mechanisms in the passageway, searching for anything they could use. Soon, they discovered an interesting phenomenon: some runes on the passageway walls would light up as they passed by, but would quickly go out.
“These runes seem to be responding to our telekinesis,” Rowan observed. “Perhaps we can use this.”
"How do we use it?" Luo Feng asked.
“Activate some mechanisms to create obstacles to stop them,” Rowan explained, “just like the previous spatial maze.”
The two began consciously using their telekinesis to touch the runes in the passage. Sure enough, as the runes were activated, the passage began to change in various ways. In some places, the walls began to move, forming new obstacles; in other places, intricate branch passages appeared.
"What's going on? Why are these walls moving?" came the panicked voices of the team members from behind.
“Damn it, these ancient mechanisms have been activated!” Karl cursed angrily. “Those two brats definitely know how to control these things!”
"Commander, should we continue the pursuit?" Old Wu asked worriedly. "These traps look very dangerous."
"Of course we'll chase them!" Karl said resolutely. "Even if there are countless traps, I'll catch those two thieves!"
But clearly, the power of the ancient mechanisms exceeded their expectations. As more and more runes were activated, the entire passage transformed into a complex maze, with walls constantly shifting and rearranging, completely disorienting everyone.
