My Peninsula 2007
Chapter 479 Complete
Chapter 479 Complete
It was late at night when we came out of the hot spring. It had started to rain, but it was light and drizzling, which is rare in Seoul's summer.
He refused the umbrella Luo Minzhi offered him and walked straight to the car door. As he got in, he looked up at the dark sky and then took his phone out of his pocket as he climbed into the car.
"Sir, where are we going?" After a moment, Luo Minzhi got into the driver's seat and asked as he started the car.
“Renwang Mountain,” An Rusong replied casually, while dialing a number on his phone.
After hearing two busy tones on his phone, he suddenly realized that it was already past 10 p.m.
This call was intended for Bai Jinjun, and it was clearly inappropriate to call him so late.
Upon realizing the problem, he immediately pressed the end call button and hung up the phone.
In the driver's seat, Luo Minzhi had already started the car and was slowly driving out of the parking lot. Just as the car was about to leave the small parking lot entrance, An Rusong's phone rang. Bai Jinjun called back.
Reaching up to touch his forehead, An Rusong shook his head with a wry smile. He pressed the answer button, immediately bringing the phone to his ear, and said in an apologetic tone, "Brother Jin Jun, I'm sorry to call you so late. I hope I didn't disturb your rest?"
“No,” Baek Geum-joon said, his voice tinged with undisguised exhaustion. “I just came from the Blue House and I’m still in the car.”
“Oh,” An Rusong said, “I just got on the bus. I was only thinking about contacting you and didn’t check the time.”
"Hehe, we're all destined to be busy," Bai Jinjun chuckled and said, "Actually, even if you hadn't called me, I was just about to contact you."
He paused, as if remembering something, and then asked, "You just said you were also in the car? Where are you right now?"
“Enping District,” An Rusong glanced out the car window and said, “Eagle Rock Cave, we’re now heading to Renwang Mountain.”
“That’s perfect,” Bai Jinjun said. “Let’s find a place to have a drink.”
“Okay, Brother Jin Jun, you can name a place,” An Rusong said.
“Go travel ten miles, there’s a bar there called DozDen, let’s meet there,” Bai Jinjun said after a moment of thought.
It's just ten miles away from the East Gate, not far from the Municipal National University, but An Rusong didn't know the bar the other party mentioned. However, now that he knew the location, finding the bar shouldn't be difficult.
“Okay, Brother Jin Jun, I’ll be there in twenty minutes at most,” An Rusong replied.
The other party didn't say anything more, and the call ended quickly. An Rusong fiddled with his phone, pondered for a moment, and then reminded Luo Minzhi ahead to change their destination.
A dozen minutes later, the Chevrolet pulled over to the side of the road in the drizzle. The rear door faced the bar Bai Jinjun had mentioned. Despite it being late at night and raining, there were still quite a few stylishly dressed, pretty men and women in front of the bar. Clearly, the bar was doing very well.
As the Chevrolet came to a stop on the side of the road, a young man who had been peering out from the roadside quickly came forward. He first checked the Chevrolet's license plate number, and then stood respectfully by the car, waiting for An Rusong to get out.
"Excuse me, are you Mr. An?" As An Rusong, protected by Luo Minzhi, stepped out of the car, the young man stood two steps away, bowed respectfully, and asked.
"Who are you?" Although he guessed that the other party was probably someone arranged by Bai Jinjun, An Rusong still asked one more question.
“Ah, Mr. An, it was Chairman Bai who asked me to wait for you here,” the young man said respectfully. “Chairman Bai is in the VIP room on the second floor. I can take you there.”
"Thank you," An Rusong smiled at the other person and said.
“It’s all I should do,” the young man bowed to him again, then gestured for him to go first.
Guided by the young man, An Rusong took the green channel and entered the bar smoothly.
Contrary to previous guesses, this bar is not a quiet bar, but a full-fledged nightclub. It is very large, a nightclub with a huge dance floor. The so-called second floor is just a suspended terrace on the side of the dance floor, which can be accessed by a fire escape.
Although An Rusong was young, he didn't particularly like places like this, where the music was deafening and young men and women were indulging in a drunken frenzy. In fact, for most men and women, coming to such places was for one of two purposes: to do something stimulating or to have an affair. An Rusong needed neither, so he was indifferent to these kinds of places. Bai Jinjun's room was at the very end of the fire escape; it was a VIP room, presumably not open to the public.
When An Rusong entered the VIP room, Bai Jinjun, wearing a black shirt, was sitting on the sofa smoking. In front of him, a woman in an evening dress with a charming demeanor was kneeling on the floor pouring him wine.
"Come on, Ru Song, sit down and have a drink," Bai Jinjun said, tugging at his clothes as An Ru Song entered from outside. He then pointed to the sofa opposite him.
An Rusong didn't speak. He smiled and walked straight to the sofa the other person pointed to. He glanced at the woman kneeling on the ground before slowly sitting down, supporting his knees.
"You can go out now," Bai Jinjun said, leaning forward and taking the wine from the woman's hand. "Don't let anyone come in and disturb us."
The woman nodded, bowed to An Rusong, then stood up, supporting herself on the coffee table, and turned to walk towards the door.
When the woman left, she closed the door behind her, and with the door closed, the languid noise outside was instantly shut out.
"I heard Quan Longcan is causing you trouble?" Bai Jinjun poured red wine into An Rusong's glass and got straight to the point.
“You already know,” An Rusong said with a wry smile, holding his wine glass. “I called you just now to talk about this.”
He paused for a moment, then spoke candidly about what had happened that evening: "This afternoon, my lawyer and I went to the Western District Prosecutor's Office to get a better understanding of the situation. Tonight, I met with Liu Shanyong again to discuss how to deal with this trouble."
Bai Jinjun nodded, looking very attentive. This guy was always like that; he could always be a good listener when others were speaking. Therefore, apart from his political opponents, most people who had come into contact with him would develop a good impression of him, including An Rusong.
After briefly recounting the results of his discussion with Liu Shanyong that evening, An Rusong continued, "There are some things I can't say in front of Brother Shanyong. Actually, I'm not very satisfied with his suggestions. After all, simply waiting is too passive. Two weeks may not seem like a long time, but it's unwise to let unfavorable public opinion spread and ferment during this period."
Baek Jin-jun raised his glass and gestured to him.
An Rusong picked up his wine glass, took a small sip of the red wine, and was about to continue the previous conversation when the other person spoke first, asking, "What do you want to do?"
“Brother Jin Jun, I called you before to ask you to introduce me to Councilor Li Haixian,” An Rusong said. “I wanted him to make a statement on the issue of investment attraction in Enping District and condemn those who obstruct the district’s investment development for personal gain.”
An Rusong's idea was not complicated. Since Quan Longcan was using the guise of social fairness to support those who were blocking the construction site, he would seek help from Li Haixian and ask him to express his support for the investment promotion work of Enping District.
Previously, An Rusong had already asked Liu Shanyong to do the relevant work, instructing him to incite those who supported the land expropriation to stand up and express their opinions. Once these people stood up and spoke out, they would need someone to support them and speak up for them on a political level. Li Haixian, who was in competition with Quan Longcan, was undoubtedly the best candidate.
“Hehe, Ru Song, introducing you to Representative Li Haixian is no problem,” Bai Jinjun said with a smile after hearing An Ru Song’s words, “but you may not know much about Representative Li Haixian’s character.”
At this point, he clicked his tongue, a look of indescribable expression on his face.
“He’s a rather greedy guy,” he finally said bluntly after pausing for a moment. “If you want his help, you’d better be prepared to spend a lot of money. The good thing is, though, he’s a man of his word. As long as you spend the money properly, he’ll get things done for you.”
“This…” An Rusong blinked and chuckled, “This seems to be an advantage?”
“Haha, that does seem to be an advantage for you,” Bai Jinjun laughed and nodded. “Since you have no objections, I’ll contact him for you tomorrow. Don’t worry, I just need to tell him that a billionaire is looking for him to do something, and he’ll definitely meet with you without hesitation.”
An Rusong nodded repeatedly. So, so-called democratic countries like South Korea are good. People in power there can be corrupt, and everyone knows they are corrupt, but no one will easily cause them trouble, not even their competitors—after all, everyone is corrupt, and no one is cleaner than anyone else.
Having received the other party's promise, An Rusong raised his glass and offered a toast to the other party. Then, he asked, "Is there some important meeting at the Blue House today? Why have you been working until now?"
"I guess so," Bai Jinjun said, reaching into his pocket as if looking for cigarettes.
An Rusong quickly took out his own cigarettes, offered one to the other person, and lit it for him.
