Chapter 84 Sparse Deer Tracks on the Stone Pile
Guo Mi searched the area around the water source to no avail, still unable to find the answer.

People tend to let their minds go blank when they have nothing to do, and bears are no exception.

The air was thick with the scents of reindeer. She idly sniffed the lingering aromas and then slowly circled around the water source, following the scents.

This pointless behavior took a turn for the better when they passed through a rocky area!
Guo Mi paused in her circling steps, her nose twitched twice, and she seemed uncertain. So she took two steps back, moved to another spot, sniffed around, and then her gaze returned to the rocky ground in front of her.

These stones are remarkably similar to the stones below the cliff from which the little goose leaps.

Large, oddly shaped rocks are piled up together, with deep and narrow gaps in the middle. The only difference is that the rocks here seem to have fewer sharp edges.

This water source is very popular with reindeer, and their scent lingers in almost every corner. However, apart from this place, there is only a faint scent remaining in the air.

These scents are less a product of reindeer and more a product of the wind.

This means that the deer rarely come here.

Guo Mi carefully observed the rocky ground, where fertile grass was growing in the crevices. Since there were no reindeer to eat it, some of the grass had already grown very tall.

So why don't the deer eat the grass here?
She pondered for a moment, then raised her paw and touched the stone at the very edge. Finally, she stood up, braced her two front paws on the stone, and jumped up with all her might with her hind legs!
Since she couldn't put all four of her paws on the same rock, she moved her front paws to another rock.

The moment the claws touched the stone surface, the stone beneath them shifted slightly downwards.

Guo Mi quickly steadied herself, tensing her entire body to maintain her balance.

Fortunately, the stone only moved slightly down and then stopped moving.

She breathed a sigh of relief, raised her paw and stomped on the stone again to make sure it wouldn't slip, before using it to climb onto another stone.

At first, everything went smoothly, with each stone steadily supporting Guo Mi's weight.

But as she slowly climbed up, each step she took and the stones she grabbed made a sound like small stones falling.

Guo Mi became more certain of her guess, so she stopped climbing and carefully retreated from the rocky ground.

The two bear cubs looked at her curiously.

Guo Mi greeted them:

"Let's hide somewhere far away and see if any more deer come today."

To better conceal herself, Guo Mi did not return to the rocky slope where she launched her attack, but instead hid further away with the two bear cubs.

Now all they have to do is wait.

Although deer often visit this place, Guo Mi had already greatly disturbed them.

She didn't know if the reindeer herds would communicate with each other. The Arctic is vast, and sometimes even if no predators disturb the herds, there will be no prey in this area for an entire day.

Sometimes the difficulty of hunting lies not in the pursuit itself, but in the waiting.

Moreover, their current situation is no different from waiting passively for a rabbit to run into a tree stump.

Three bears hid in the shadows, watching the distant water source from afar, for an hour, then two hours...

By the third hour, even the most well-behaved little bear couldn't withstand the test of time and began to doze off.

Guo Mi also had a hard time.

Accustomed to the fast pace of city life, the thought of doing nothing but staring at one spot for hours on end is incredibly tedious and monotonous, testing her patience every single second. After the fourth hour, Guo Mi was filled with frustration, and Little Bear couldn't help but ask her:
"Guo Mi, how long are we going to have to wait?"

Polar bears are not adapted to this hunting method; they mostly rely on their sense of smell to actively find food before engaging in the hunt.

Guo Mi didn't know, but she believed the deer herd would return sooner or later.

She noticed that most of the reindeer had shriveled bellies and were drinking water more than eating grass when she was chasing them a few hours earlier.

This indicates that they haven't been at that water source for very long.

Although they may find fresh grass and water elsewhere, there is a high probability that they will return.

That's why Guo Mi decided to "wait for the deer by the water".

But given the current situation, it's unlikely they'll see the deer.

In nature, things don't always go smoothly. Despite her disappointment, Guo Mi calmly accepted her mistake in making the decision.

After much deliberation, she finally decided to give up the surveillance and take the little bear to rest and conserve its energy.

However, instead of returning to the cave, they simply slept on the ground.

Animals that provide shelter from the wind and snow are no longer necessary in the summer, and this is the first time that Guo Mi has followed the tradition of polar bears "sleeping wherever they go".

The two bear cubs found it quite novel. Although Kaya had continued the polar bear lifestyle with them while she was alive, they had long been accustomed to living in caves after spending so much time with Guomi.

Guo Mi found a shaded spot, curled up, closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep.

The two little bears were exhausted after a long day and fell asleep beside her. The salmon's little head rested lazily on her waist, and it closed its eyes peacefully.

After an unknown amount of time, a strong, distinctive smell of dried grass from reindeer wafted into my nostrils.

Guo Mi suddenly opened her eyes, bent down, and peered towards the water source.

Another herd of reindeer had gathered there, grazing contentedly by the water. Some of the deer even went into the water and slowly moved around in the pool.

Guo Mi looked at the sky. The sun of the polar day was still high in the sky. She didn't know how much time had passed. Perhaps it was already the next day.

But it doesn't matter, now a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has been presented to her!

It turned out that her initial decision to rest was correct. Although Guo Mi was still hungry, she had recovered from her previous physical and mental exhaustion.

She is now fully capable of handling a complete hunt!

The two bear cubs woke up too, and without Guo Mi reminding them, they were already sitting obediently to one side waiting. The salmon said earnestly:
"We will study hard!"

Guo Mi's ears twitched, and she gave the two little ones an approving look before turning her gaze back to the deer herd in the distance.

She followed Caesar's method as before, concealing herself as much as possible before reaching a more suitable place to launch a pursuit.

However, unlike before, Guo Mi changed her strategy of selecting a single target and instead selected a group!
She envisioned many possible escape routes for the deer herd, and finally focused on four deer that were relatively far from the water but situated between the water and the pile of rocks.

The giant furball took a deep breath, and two seconds later suddenly mobilized all its muscles, bursting out of its hiding place once again and charging aggressively toward the distant herd of deer!
