Chapter 35 Fish Catching Game
Caesar immediately agreed to the game, as he desperately needed to break the current awkward situation.

Guo Mi took two steps forward and stood beside him by the lake, her whole being shrouded in a gloomy aura, but her eyes revealed no emotion.

The male bear, unaware of when, had naturally been led astray by her emotions. Seeing her like this, he also became nervous and silently swallowed.

"Let's play a fishing game and see who catches the most fish," Guo Mi explained the rules succinctly.

Caesar immediately relaxed upon hearing the rule. Hunting was his forte, and catching fish was nothing difficult.

Guo Mi then added conditions:
"If I win, you'd better leave right now."

Caesar immediately objected, as gaming is an important social tool for polar bears.

He thought that Guo Mi's initiative to play games meant she wasn't against him anymore, but when he heard it again, it was just like last time. This time she wasn't running away, but trying a different way to get rid of him.

The disgruntled male bear immediately became agitated, panting heavily, pawing at the snow with his front paws, and angrily asking:

"What if I win?"

Guo Mi fell silent; she hadn't thought of that yet, and could only ask Caesar, as he wished:

"what do you want?"

Caesar wanted to say, "Abandon the two little brats," but seeing Guo Mi's warning look, he swallowed his words and instead said something less apt:

"You can't resist me getting close to you anymore, and also..."

Before he could push his luck, Guo Mi glanced at him, and Caesar immediately shut up and straightened his chest.

She watched the male bear silently, and finally sighed:
"Why do you insist on following me? Why do you insist on making me throw away the teddy bear?"

Ultimately, this was also a question that had always been hidden in Guo Mi's heart.

Even though their contact time was short, Guo Mi was certain that Caesar was a purebred polar bear, and could not possibly be a human-turned-bear like her.

However, his behavior was strange to polar bears.

Firstly, taking bears as an example, male bears are much more dominant than female bears, and apart from the mating season, there is absolutely no "tenderness" between them.

They are pure wild beasts, and will recklessly steal food from mother bears, and may even bite and kill them.

Kaya is the best example.

But since she met Caesar, the male bear seems to have been controlling his temper. They have never had a pure life-or-death struggle like wild beasts, and even when they did fight, he never tried to kill her.

Guo Mi couldn't fight Caesar like a real wild beast because she was originally human.

Having lived in human society for many years, surrounded by rules and laws, her upbringing instilled in her a habitual ability to restrain herself, whether driven by desires, emotions, or anything else.

Therefore, she couldn't be hysterical. If her life wasn't truly threatened and she wasn't struggling to survive, she would at most fight Caesar with a "what's the use" attitude. But if she had the chance to escape, she would never choose to fight Caesar to the death.

But Caesar was different from her.

First of all, this bear doesn't look like it's in heat at all.

Moreover, he was born a polar bear and lived in this cold wilderness, free from the constraints of rules and laws.

According to what the salmon and fishbone said, this bear has killed several polar bears so far, and most of them were males. It's impossible that it has been holding back because it was afraid of getting hurt.

Even now, when she raises her claws at him, he just grazes, and just moments ago he was actually watching her every move.

Such behavior is simply inconceivable for a male bear with a violent temperament.

Another thing that puzzled Guo Mi was why Caesar insisted that she throw away the two bear cubs.

Although the bear kept joking around, he immediately shut up when he saw her expression was off, but Guo Mi still didn't miss the seriousness in his eyes.

He genuinely wanted to see Guo Mi abandon the little bear. Why?
These two bear cubs have nothing to do with him, nor does he need to raise them. They are just two unrelated bear cubs, so why is he so insistent on letting her throw them away?

"Caesar."

Guo Mi called the male bear's name softly.

The sulking bear glanced at her, then lowered its eyes again, feeling sullen.
"what happened?"

"The mother of the two bear cubs..." Guo Mi paused, then, fearing Caesar might forget, changed her wording:
"Did you kill Kaya?"

Caesar gave her a strange look and muttered:
"No."

Guo Mi understood; this made sense.

She first met Caesar next to Kaya's corpse, so she tacitly agreed that Caesar wanted to kill the two bear cubs, but Kaya resisted, so he bit Kaya to death.

However, the two bear cubs only showed fear when they saw Caesar, without any of the anger and hatred shown by the mother-killing bear. Guo Mi had initially guessed that the two bear cubs were too young to recognize him.

Only after spending more time with them did I realize that, given the polar bears' keen sense of smell, it was impossible for the two cubs not to recognize the bear that killed Kaya.

Now Caesar has completely confirmed Guo Mi's suspicions; she had misunderstood.

Caesar secretly observed Guo Mi's expression, and as if he had thought of something, he added:
"I don't kill mother bears with cubs." So you don't need to be so hostile towards me; I won't kill you.

But no sooner had she finished speaking than Guo Mi's gaze towards Caesar became indescribable:

"They don't kill mother bears with cubs, but they eat the mother bear's cubs?"

Caesar grew impatient and shouted in a gruff voice:
"I have never eaten the cubs!"

Guo Mi was even more puzzled:

"Since you've never eaten baby fish, why do you want to eat salmon and fish bones now? Why do you want me to throw them away?"

Caesar froze, realizing he was being too forceful. He knew the salmon and fishbone were referring to the two bear cubs. After a long silence, he finally said, his neck stiff with arrogance:
"I... I've never eaten a baby bear before and I want to try it, but if I eat a baby bear, wouldn't I have to kill the mother bear?"

He glanced at Guo Mi again, making sure her expression was under control, before continuing:
"Anyway, those two little brats aren't your biological children, so you wouldn't risk your life for them, right?"

The implication is that he didn't want to kill the mother bear with cubs but wanted to taste the cubs, so he ended up choosing salmon and fish bones.

The reason was that he believed Guo Mi couldn't possibly be like a mother bear, fighting him to the death for her two cubs.

That sounds barely reasonable, but Guo Mi doesn't think it's the real answer.

But seeing Caesar's expression, she probably wouldn't get anything out of him today, so she had no choice but to give up.

but!

"Caesar."

Guo Mi called out the male bear's name, her expression more serious than ever before, her voice cold:
"You want to kill two bear cubs now, it's your nature, I don't blame you."

Caesar's eyes revealed joy, but also a hint of something else, revealing that he had other thoughts in mind. Guo Mi saw this but remained calm.

She took a breath and said seriously:

"However, if you actually bite the two bear cubs and do anything that causes real harm, I will fight you to the death!"

She emphasized her words and spoke the last sentence with great solemnity:

"Just like Kaya who gave birth to them, just like all mother bears with cubs, they'll fight you to the death!"
