Chapter 819 Carving a Dragon
A streak of blue light streaked across the sky at lightning speed, covering tens of thousands of miles in the blink of an eye.
The blue light landed, and it was Tan Wenjie who had rushed to Black Dragon Pool to investigate.
Located in the southwest, this place has many ethnic minorities. When Tan Wenjie stood on the mountaintop and looked out at the local residents, he thought of Zhao Ling'er.
"I should have arrived earlier than the heavenly soldiers and generals."
The time difference between heaven and earth allowed him to arrive at least one or two months earlier than the celestial beings.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Someone is playing a drum.
Tan Wenjie looked in the direction of the sound and saw a group of people gathered outside the Black Dragon Pool. They were jumping around a huge wooden sculpture. Upon closer inspection, the sculpture was very exquisite, especially the pair of dragon eyes, which were imposing and seemed to be alive.
Turning his head to look at Black Dragon Pool, the water was bubbling and churning. Through the dark, opaque water, Tan Wenjie could see the sow dragon lurking at the bottom of the pool.
The sow dragon is covered in a thick layer of scales, has a long, flat mouth, and breathes out flames.
It also knew what was about to happen and was poised and waiting.
As the drumbeats reached their climax, the wooden dragon surrounded by the crowd soared into the sky on clouds, swishing its tail in the air. At first glance, it didn't look much different from a real dragon.
The clouds and mist lifted the wooden dragon like a chariot.
"Ow—!"
The water in Black Dragon Pool exploded, and the sow dragon flew out and began to fight with the wooden dragon.
The two dragons fought fiercely, creating a tremendous spectacle.
The sow dragon was a ferocious beast with sharp claws and teeth like iron rakes and steel knives. It easily tore a large hole in the dark clouds, and the rain poured down with a "whoosh!" as if the Milky Way had fallen from the heavens.
Several bolts of lightning also escaped along with it.
"Crack!"
A flash of lightning illuminated Tan Wenjie's face.
The rain poured down, but every drop of water deliberately avoided him, leaving a dry patch of ground about half a meter in diameter at his feet.
The wooden dragon in the sky twisted its body to the sound of drums, and lashed out at the sow dragon with its tail, making it stagger. But unexpectedly, the sow dragon flipped over and bit the wooden dragon's claw. Its body twisted and turned in the air like a crocodile, and it actually twisted off one of the wooden dragon's legs.
"Oh no, the wooden dragon is going to lose!" A child in the crowd shouted, pointing at the wooden dragon in the sky.
The drumbeats also became more rapid.
Despite the Wood Dragon's continued struggle to attack, it could not change its disadvantageous position. After the Sow Dragon opened its mouth and breathed fire, its body was reduced to ashes and fell to the ground as charred remains.
"bang"
The charcoal hit the ground, sending sparks flying everywhere, before being completely extinguished in the heavy rain.
The sow dragon roared triumphantly to the sky, then flicked its tail and plunged into the Black Dragon Pool, leaving the local residents heartbroken.
"Master Yang, don't be discouraged." A boy walked up to the middle-aged man and whispered words of comfort.
Others also tried to persuade him.
"Yes, Master Yang, although our dragon lost, we can rebuild it in the future."
"One day we will be able to defeat the Sow Dragon."
The man called Master Yang just kept smoking silently.
They packed their things and went home, looking disheveled.
The villagers were defeated by the sow dragon, and the whole village fell into a deep depression.
They had no way to subdue the sow dragon, and who knows how many more people would die from then on.
"Master Yang, Master Yang."
A voice came from behind him, and Master Yang turned around to see that it was a handsome Taoist priest.
He couldn't even hear where the voice came from, nor did he know how the other person appeared.
"Master, is there something you need from me?" Master Yang asked, puzzled.
Their village was isolated from the outside world, and if Master Yang had traveled all over the country in his early years, he might not have known the Taoist priest.
"I heard that a sow dragon was causing trouble in this place, so I came here to check it out. I just saw you, Master Yang, making a wooden dragon to fight the evil dragon. I admire you and came here to meet you."
"Ugh."
When mentioning his wooden dragon, Master Yang couldn't help but sigh again.
"Why are you sighing?" Tan Wenjie asked. "That sow dragon has cultivated for countless years and possesses all sorts of supernatural abilities. The fact that your carved wooden dragon can fight it to a standstill is enough to prove your superb skills."
"I'm not regretting my lack of skill, but worrying about how to defeat the sow dragon. It can breathe fire, but I can only carve wood. I'm naturally at a disadvantage. Moreover, the sow dragon's skin is hard and rough, and the wooden dragon's blunt teeth can't bite it."
"Haha, what's so difficult about that? As long as you cover the wooden dragon with iron scales and give it iron claws, you naturally won't need to be afraid of it."
Master Yang suddenly asked, "Taoist Master, you came here specifically to check, was it to subdue the sow dragon?"
He knew that in the world outside the village, there were Taoist priests who could subdue demons and monsters, and perhaps the handsome Taoist priest in front of him was one of them.
“That’s right, but the sow dragon is very powerful, and it’s difficult for me to trap it. I still need Master Yang’s wooden dragon to help me.”
"Of course! I'll find someone to help me forge the Iron Scales and Iron Claws right now!"
"Well, to be honest, I've also studied blacksmithing, so I can help out."
Seeing that the other party really wanted to help, Master Yang immediately nodded in agreement. There was no better way, so he might as well give it a try.
"I'll do it..."
"Wait, Master Yang, the wood you used is a bit of poor quality. I have some better wood here." The Taoist priest raised his hand, and a pile of wood appeared beside him.
Some of the wood has extremely beautiful grain, and the cut surfaces resemble jade.
Some vines may appear withered, but they are actually extremely resilient, and the shape and growth pattern of the vines resemble a dragon, like a real dragon coiled up a pillar.
"Hiss." Master Yang couldn't help but gasp. "Where...where did this come from?"
“When I was climbing Kunlun Mountain, I unexpectedly saw these withered vines and picked some. I heard that the Antarctic Immortal’s staff was made of this material.”
"..."
After a moment of silence, Master Yang's gaze shifted to another peach tree.
"This is?"
“I have a good relationship with a girl, and I even got a peach tree seed from her mother. Later, this peach tree was planted and it should be called a flat peach.”
"You mean the variety called the flat peach, right?"
"Haha, of course, it can't be the Queen Mother of the West's peaches, can it?"
"That's true..."
Master Yang held his breath as he examined the pile of wood. Based on his lifelong experience as a carpenter, he was pretty sure that all the wood here was of good quality.
The man in front of him produced so much wood with a wave of his sleeve. Even if the materials were genuine, Master Yang wouldn't doubt it, because he was convinced that the man in front of him was a true deity.
“I don’t need that many materials to carve a wooden dragon,” Master Yang said, shaking his head.
"Hey, Master Yang, have you ever heard this saying?"
"What?"
"Better safe than sorry!" the Taoist said. "That sow dragon is extremely cunning and powerful. If one dragon is destroyed, another will come."
Master Yang: "Nine is really too many."
In the end, Master Yang nodded in agreement. The words of the gods always make sense. If the other party really wanted to harm him, they could simply use magic to throw the wood on his head and kill him.
"Alright, then I'll trouble you, Daoist Master."
Master Yang changed his clothes, picked up his tools to carve the wooden dragon, but then he heard a thunderous "boom!" and a "crack!" He turned around and saw that the Taoist priest in blue had a short-handled square hammer in his hand.
He raised his hammer and struck the metal, which shone with a beautiful light, and flames immediately burst forth.
"Hiss, this...this...Taoist Master, isn't this fire a bit off?"
The Taoist priest calmly replied, "It's normal for there to be fire when forging iron."
As the opponent raised his hammer again, lightning spread.
Master Yang: "Then what about this lightning?" The presence of fire can be considered normal, but how do you explain the presence of lightning?
"What are we building? A dragon. Dragons can summon wind and rain, so it's normal for them to bring lightning."
This is not normal at all!
"And these iron pieces too..."
As Master Yang listened to the other party's explanation, he felt a strong intuition for some reason.
The wooden dragon created this time could probably kill the sow dragon as easily as swatting an ant.
"Taoist Master, what are you doing now?" Master Yang noticed that the other party had taken out a peculiar two-wheeled vehicle.
"This is a special magical artifact that I obtained decades ago, called the Five Elements Chariot, which can chase and kill enemies."
"Does the Taoist priest want me to fuse the Five Elements Chariot and the Wooden Dragon together?" Master Yang frowned. "That would be difficult."
For some reason, Master Yang had a strange feeling: was the other party really there to help him subdue the sow dragon, or did they think he was a carpenter and wanted him to help build a car?
Despite saying it was a bit difficult, Master Yang still earnestly gave a method to combine the Nine Dragons and the Five Elements Chariot into a single chariot.
"That's even better!" Master Yang clapped his hands. "Nine dragons pulling the chariot, nine dragons united as one!"
"A nine-dragon carriage? Hmm, that's a bit treasonous."
The Nine Dragons Agarwood Carriage was the mount of the Primordial Celestial Venerable.
Then Master Yang frowned and said, "However, the nine dragons may not be obedient after they come to life. We create dragons to kill enemies, and they are extremely ferocious."
What if there was a Dragon Ball?
"Dragon Ball?" Master Yang tried his best to guess the origin of the Taoist priest in front of him, but found that the more he guessed, the less he could figure it out.
Looking at the Dragon Ball that appeared before him, Master Yang took a deep breath.
"With this, these nine dragons might even be able to cause trouble in the Heavenly Palace."
The more he built it, the more it exceeded Master Yang's own expectations. He himself didn't know whether doing so was a blessing or a curse.
"The sound seems to be coming from Master Yang's house."
"Is he carving dragons again?"
"Let's go take a look!"
The villagers were surprised to find that Yang's house, which had been quiet for less than half a day, was suddenly bustling with activity again. They were happy that Yang had not given up, but worried that he was doing useless work.
After all, apart from harming people once every three years, the sow dragon of Black Dragon Pool usually lives peacefully with the outside world. In addition to the disasters caused by the sow dragon, the villagers also have to consider their daily lives, as they need to work and fill their stomachs.
The sow dragon in the distant pool seemed to have heard the villagers chatting. After a while, an old man in black with a long beard silently followed them.
The villagers arrived at Mr. Yang's house, and were about to knock when they were startled by a sudden, muffled rumble of thunder from inside.
"Boom!"
A man in front shouted through the door, "Master Yang, are you alright at home?"
The courtyard gate creaked open at that moment.
Then they saw two wooden dragons standing in the courtyard. The wooden dragons were not large, but they were incredibly powerful. One of them had been covered with iron scales and had iron claws.
Not far away, a young man was hammering iron with a square-headed hammer, each strike accompanied by thunder and howling wind.
Master Yang was engrossed in carving the third wooden dragon.
The black-clad, long-bearded old man at the back of the crowd twitched his eyelids wildly, thinking to himself, "A thousand-year-old withered vine, what kind of wood is that? Why is it filled with immortal energy? And that dragon, how come it's all made of immortal materials?"
There are people in this world who would go to such lengths to build a wooden dragon; it's a complete waste of resources, they have money to burn!
Even the gods in heaven would be heartbroken and beat their chests in despair upon seeing this scene.
"Master Yang, what... what's the preparation?" someone asked instinctively.
"I plan to coat the wooden dragon with iron scales, then we won't have to fear the sow dragon's flames anymore," Master Yang said, sounding a little uneasy.
"This fire?"
"It's normal for fire to occur when blacksmithing."
"Then what about this lightning?"
"We're creating a dragon, and dragons have divinity, so it's normal, right?"
"And what about this constantly flashing light?"
"The metal sheet is reflecting light."
"besides……"
"..."
The long-bearded old man in black robes, hiding at the very back of the crowd, swallowed hard; all he wanted to do was curse.
fart!
I am just a small sow dragon, causing trouble in the pond. I only kill one or two people every three years. Why bother to deal with me on such a large scale?
Having spent some time in the heavens, even without knowing the true names of these treasures, one could tell from the light emanating from their materials that they were no ordinary celestial items.
"Alright!" Master Yang dotted the eyes of the wooden dragon.
"boom!"
A burst of flame shot out from the wooden dragon's mouth, and the villagers cheered.
"Our dragon can breathe fire now, so we don't have to be afraid of the sow dragon anymore!"
Only the black-robed, long-bearded old man was helpless. If he wasn't mistaken, the dragon had just spewed Samadhi Fire.
What merit or ability do I possess to deserve being burned by such Samadhi Fire?
"Master Yang, you're busy. We'll go prepare the food."
The villagers left happily, feeling that victory was in sight.
Some young girls even cast flirtatious glances at the men who were hammering iron.
While Master Yang went to rest, the old man in black robes with a long beard approached the man carrying the hammer.
"Who are you, and why are you helping the people here?"
"I'm here to save your life."
"You... save my life?" The black-robed, long-bearded old man's heart skipped a beat.
This self-address indicates that the other party is no ordinary deity, and as he squinted and tried to examine him, he found that in his eyes the other party was just an ordinary mortal.
The clearer the vision, the less confident I feel.
He wouldn't be naive enough to think that the other party was just an ordinary person, so there was only one other possibility: the other party's strength far exceeded his imagination. Even if the other party was using lightning and fire to forge iron like this, he couldn't detect the slightest flaw in the other party.
"Yes, in another month or two, the Heavenly Court will send people again."
"..."
Of course he knew who was coming.
Every three years, the Jade Emperor of Heaven issues this decree, and no one dares to disobey it.
"How does the immortal intend to save me?"
"After you are defeated by the wooden dragon, I will send you to a place to cultivate properly. Those heavenly soldiers and generals will leave after they have completed their tasks. As for your life or death... it is not important at all."
The old man in black robes was not stupid; otherwise, he would not have transformed into a human to gather information.
"Could it be?"
"Your appearance is to allow Master Yang to go through hardships and achieve enlightenment."
"..."
I often heard those legends when I was in heaven, but I never thought that one day they would happen to me. It turns out that there really are times when you have to sacrifice yourself to help others achieve their goals.
"With the wooden dragon you helped forge, it will surely defeat me, so why bother telling me all this?"
"It was just something I did."
