Chapter 49 Every resource and connection has its uses

Coming out of William Morris, Edward untied his tie and gasped for breath, like a drowning man who had just come ashore.

Hawke asked for the car keys, got into the driver's seat, waited for Edward to get in the passenger seat, and said, "You are responsible for finding the professionals."

Edward nodded subconsciously, and then asked: "As many black people as you want, what are your specific requirements?"

Hawke said: "He has a tight mouth, is relatively obedient, and looks fierce."

"The last one is easy. There are few black people who are not fierce." Edward carefully recalled the homeless friends summoned by the angel: "If there are three of them, I can pick them out."

He added a key point: "Boss, the money must be in place first."

Hawke asked directly: "What is the appropriate reward?"

Edward thought for a moment and said, "200 dollars per person, I guarantee they will be more obedient than kittens. If anyone dares to disobey, I will kick their ass!"

Hawke was surprised: "I remember you weren't involved in a gang, how can you be so confident?"

Edward chuckled. "Remember the woman I mentioned to you? It's Nicole, the one I met when handing out business cards. I live in her house. She works at a shelter. I heard there are a lot of shady things going on there. I can get her to strangle those homeless people."

Hawke looked at him with new eyes: "You are worthy of being the savior!"

Edward took off his tie and showed off, "When handing out business cards, I kept a notebook of divorced women with children who were in good condition. I can strike at any time."

Hawke gave him a thumbs up and said, "Man, if I go bankrupt one day, I'll go with you."

Edward chuckled: "You are the boss."

Hawke nodded slightly, took out his cell phone, and prepared to make a call.

Edward asked, "Where's the woman?"

"Jacqueline." Hawke had already gotten through the phone and said, "It's me, Hawke. It's not time for you to go to work yet? Come out and chat."

On the other side, Jacqueline stretched and said, "You don't want to do business with me, do you? You didn't go through a broker, so you don't have to give him a commission. We are still acquaintances, so how about half price?"

Hawke ignored her words: "I have a new business, which will take up no more than one afternoon of your time, and it will cost $500."

Jacqueline certainly wouldn't miss out on such lucrative extra money: "See you at the old place in an hour."

Less than an hour later, Hawke met Jacqueline.

This woman is not wearing any makeup, perhaps because she works at night for a long time. Although she looks young and has a good complexion, she has dark circles under her eyes.

Hawke briefly explained the situation and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Yes, why not!" Jacqueline also had doubts: "The place cannot be too remote. I will never go to a place like a slum. I'm afraid of being raped by a bunch of people. Um... you have to ensure my safety."

Hawke said, “I’ll be filming around you then.”

Jacqueline smiled and said, "It's just a small thing, and you gave me $500. You are a generous boss."

Hawke said, "Because you are professional enough."

Jacqueline was flattered: "This is the first time someone has praised me like this."

Hawke asked casually, "Are you interested in changing jobs?"

Jacqueline shook her head: "Not interested."

Edward interrupted: "It's more promising to start a business with us. I've seen too many people in your industry who don't live a good life when they get old and are no longer pretty."

Jacqueline had her own idea: "My working hours are mainly at night. If you need me during the day, I can work part-time temporarily. I can earn two salaries at the same time. Why should I change jobs? When I get old, it will be a matter for the future. I will talk about it then."

Hawke skipped the topic and said, "Keep your phone on during the day and don't put it on silent mode. I may contact you at any time after 12 o'clock in the daytime."

Jacqueline yawned: "Remember, remember."

Leaving $200 as a deposit, Hawke left, stopped at a coffee shop, bought four iced Americanos, and headed straight to West Los Angeles.

Edward was confused. "Why buy four cups of coffee? Are you going to give one to my dear? She works not far from here."

"We were in West Los Angeles, visiting Officer Erica Ferguson, and the coffee was for her and her partner," Hawke said.

"Wow, boss, you finally got it, you're going to pick up girls!" Edward shouted excitedly: "Do you need help? Do you need me to teach you some experience? I tell you, you can have sex with her for the first time in the LAPD patrol car, I guarantee she will never forget it..." Hawke interrupted him: "You can shut up now, I'm looking for her because of work needs, she patrols in West Los Angeles, covering several streets."

Edward was furious: "What a waste of resources! What a shame to waste resources!"

Hawke sneered, "When we become rich, we will have all kinds of chicks. We can find 20 at a time!"

Edward argued: "But you can't enjoy pure love."

Hawke didn't bother to talk to him and drove into West Los Angeles.

He had already inquired about the area Erica patrolled, and after walking around a few blocks, he found 14th Street to be suitable.

There aren't many people there during the day, and it's a little remote, but not too chaotic.

As the Mondeo turned off 14th Street, Hawke saw a patrol car parked on the side of the road.

Erica and Julian, both wearing dark police uniforms, are dealing with a street dispute.

Hawke parked his car five meters behind the patrol car, got out of the car with an iced Americano, waited for the other side to be dealt with, then walked over slowly and said, "Julian, Erica."

The latter stopped, raised his police hat, and responded: "Hawke, what a coincidence."

"Go this way. I remembered that this is your jurisdiction, so I bought a cup of coffee." Hawke gave each of them a cup of coffee: "Ordinary iced Americano. I don't know if it suits your taste."

Erica took the first step and said, "I like iced Americano."

Hawke asked, "The media hasn't bothered you lately, has it?"

"My news fever has passed." Erica shrugged playfully: "Reporters are like a group of sharks, always chasing fresh blood."

She realized she had said the wrong thing and changed her words: "If there were more responsible reporters like you, Los Angeles would have a lot less trouble."

"That's right." Julian is relatively introverted and doesn't talk much.

Hawke took the opportunity to say, "In a couple of days, there will be a job to be done in your area. A director friend and I are going to try to shoot a short street film. I just took a look around and 14th Street seems to be a good choice."

Erica asked, "Need to clear the area temporarily? We don't have the authority to do that. You need to contact the city hall."

Hawke said: "There is no need to clear the set. The time is very short and we can finish shooting in ten minutes. The scene involves robbery and the like, so it is not suitable for police cars to appear."

Erica deliberately said, "You're not really going to rob, are you?"

Hawke pointed at himself and said, "Do I look like I'm short of money?"

"Just kidding." For patrol, this is a trivial matter. Erica thought for a moment and said, "When you are ready, call me. If Julian and I are nearby, we can temporarily adjust the patrol route and go to another block first."

Hawke said, "Thank you."

Erica was very direct: "You're welcome, just treat me to a meal when you're done."

Hawke agreed immediately: "No problem, I'll make an appointment with you when I finish this work."

Julian and Erica still had work to do, so they chatted a few more times before getting in the patrol car and leaving.

In the car, Julian asked, "Are you interested in Hawke?"

Erica said, "Don't you think he is a very responsible person?"

Julian, who was older, thought for a moment and reminded, “He is very purposeful in what he does.”

Erica nodded: "This shows that he is ambitious."

Hawke secured the venue and sent Edward to the aid station to find extras.

Let the black guys do this job, there is no need to act at all.

The next morning, Edward brought three black men to the ranch park. Hawke was going to conduct a series of training and then rent a prop knife.

If Hawke used a real knife, he was afraid that the black men would get carried away and stab Johnson.

Los Angeles has a well-developed film industry, and you can rent a lifelike knife for just a little money.
