The Wolf of Los Angeles.
Chapter 3 Jumping off the building
Chapter 3 Jumping off the building
Second floor, producer's office.
Three bodyguards patrolled the corridor and two guarded the door.
The crew's producer Bro Derek closed the office door and asked the brown-haired middle-aged man who had just come in, "The chairman of the Ackerman Charitable Foundation is here in person. Is this... a match?"
"It was just confirmed this morning, so I came by on the way." Chairman Barack Bernanke had a typical Jewish big nose. "Hh blood type is rare, and organ matching is even more difficult. Mr. Buddy Ackerman suddenly suffered organ failure, and the family launched physical examinations in all affected areas to find a match, and your crew found it first."
There are some things Barack would not tell Bro. The owner Buddy Ackerman had two organs in his blood bags that were perfectly matched, but when their organs were to be used, the two men were infected with AIDS.
Things are not peaceful within the Ackerman family.
The two have known each other for many years. Bro laughed and said, "I've always had good luck."
"Mr. Ackerman will meet you in person once he recovers." Barack said, "Congratulations on your further career advancement."
Bro said: "I just hope the company will invest more resources in Sarah and let her enter the Hollywood front line as soon as possible."
Barack had no interest in female celebrities and wife slaves, so he changed the subject: "Have you done a background check?"
Bro's face straightened. "The target is 22 years old, a native of Provo, from a low-income family, did not finish high school, his parents are divorced, his mother went to Europe ten years ago and has not been heard from since, his father was a forest ranger and died of illness a year and a half ago, the target now lives alone and once relied on church relief to make ends meet."
After listening to him, Barack made a summary: "No relatives, no money, no power, the best consumables." He then asked: "Is there a more complete plan? After Mr. Ackerman recovers, he plans to develop in the political world, so as not to leave any future troubles."
Bro had already thought about it and quickly said, "The crew still has one rooftop stunt scene left. It was originally planned to be a wire action scene. I will ask the director to make adjustments and change it to a jumping scene. The target will be injured and transferred to Los Angeles for treatment to show our kindness."
He thought for a moment and added, "The target is not a union member, and the Stuntman Union will not intervene. When the film company and the foundation promote charity, he signed a donation agreement with the foundation and followed the normal process."
Barack asked, "Jump off the building? Are you sure?"
"Stunt director Freddy was promoted by Mr. Ackerman. This is not the first time he has done this kind of thing. We have the evidence in our hands." Bro picked up the phone and dialed a number: "Come over."
In less than half a minute, there was a knock on the door and Freddy, who was also Jewish, entered the office.
Bro didn't waste any words. He first talked about the adjustment of the role and then the ultimate goal: "I need the target person to be injured. When transferred to Los Angeles, the person must be alive."
Freddy made his fortune with the help of the Ackerman family and came from Los Angeles. He had some guesses in his mind, but he didn't show them at all. He just talked about the matter at hand: "The three wire cranes will be slightly adjusted in direction, and an air cushion will be laid behind the building. The control console will be moved downstairs. I will operate it myself, no problem."
Barack said: "There is a private plane at Hunter Private Airport in the western suburbs. After picking up the person, he will fly to Los Angeles as soon as possible."
To be on the safe side, he pointed outside and said, "I'll leave the five people I brought with me to you. Three of them will stay on the set to keep an eye on the target. If the target becomes alert, don't let him escape! The other two will go to the target's residence and destroy everything that needs to be destroyed."
Freddy also wanted to climb up the ladder and get into the core circle, so he volunteered: "Can I be the liaison?"
Bro patted him on the shoulder: "I'm counting on you."
Barack looked at his watch and said, "Leave it to you. There is a charity party tonight and I must accompany Miss Ackerman to attend. I have to catch a plane back to Los Angeles. There are many sick children waiting for my help."
Bro understood him: "Mainly, their mother needs your comfort."
After saying this, the two of them laughed at the same time.
…………
Behind the building, Hawke suddenly discovered that the technical workers of the stunt team were busy again.
The three cranes on the roof were adjusting their directions, and in the open space behind the building, a green-screen-like air cushion was being dragged out and inflated.
Hawke asked David next to him: "What scene are we filming this afternoon?"
David said: "Action scenes with wires suspended from the roof."
"Are you sure?" Hawke frowned slightly. He felt uncomfortable behind him and turned his head quickly.
Robert Downey Jr. was in high spirits, staring at Hawke with a stern expression, and walked towards him step by step.
David patted Hawke and warned him, "The sissy is coming."
Hawke turned around and saw Freddy and the assistant director, along with stuntman McGinn, walking around the inflatable cushion and quickly finding them.
The assistant director said, "There are changes to the afternoon scene. A character falls from a building."
"This guy's character falls off a building!" When drug addicts are high, they lose all rationality. Robert Downey Jr. points at Hawke and says, "I say! Make this guy's character fall off a building!"
Freddy smiled at Hawke and said, "The director made a temporary change. This scene ends with your character falling from the building."
Before Hawke could speak, he said, "The pay for a Hollywood jumping scene is different from that for an ordinary stunt scene. This scene costs $5000. There is no need to worry about safety. We have a first-rate stunt team in Hollywood and have performed this kind of performance dozens of times."
After hearing about the pay, McGinn, who had followed, was unhappy: "I can dance too! I'll just put on a black hood, it makes no difference."
Freddy glared at him. “This isn’t your role.”
Hawke had a vague feeling that something was wrong, and suddenly he discovered that the three men in suits he had seen on the second floor were standing in a triangle among the crowd on the set, and the center point of the triangle was where they were.
The assistant director was impatient and pointed with his orchid finger: "Don't forget the contract you signed. You must follow the crew's work arrangements."
The sudden sense of crisis made Hawke decide not to refuse openly: "No problem for me." Freddy waved his hand and said, "Go ahead."
Hawke's expression and actions showed nothing unusual as he followed David toward the back door of the building.
McGinn couldn't wait to follow.
Freddy grabbed the assistant director and said, "The producer is watching this scene. No matter what method you use, you must ensure it is completed smoothly."
Hearing the producer, the assistant director put away his sissy tone and said seriously, "Leave it to me."
Freddy came to the huge wire operating table and, as usual, carefully checked the motors, cables and other equipment.
The three men in suits, two in white and one in black, did not go upstairs as planned.
The black man came to the inflatable mat, and the other two went to the front of the building, one guarding the front door and the other guarding the back door.
In the building, the elevator went up quickly and soon reached the top floor.
The elevator door opened, and McGinn and the assistant director walked forward first.
Hawke deliberately slowed down his pace and fell behind David. When they reached the rooftop platform, he quickly observed the situation on the rooftop.
Several technicians from the stunt team and a filming team from the camera crew are ready.
As the cold wind blew over him, Hawke softly asked the question that was weighing on his mind: "Have we also signed a body or organ donation agreement?"
"Are you still hungover? Your head is full of alcohol? You don't even remember this!" David said simply, "We signed it together with the rest of the crew. They used it for publicity and hype. Didn't they publish it in the newspaper?"
Hawke's heart tightened as he thought of the physical examination report and the extremely rare dinosaur blood!
All of a sudden, words like leek, consumables, oil pressing and kidney all rushed into my mind.
He had been free for less than 10 hours, hadn't figured out his own situation yet, and even his memory of his previous life was vague, but he was dragged into all this mess.
The assistant director turned around and pointed at Hawke: "Hurry up."
"I...I want to...go to the bathroom." Hawke deliberately said with an expression of nervousness that he couldn't suppress: "Wait...I want to go to the bathroom."
The assistant director said, “Hurry up!”
McGinn pointed at Hawke's legs and said, "Look, his legs are shaking! This coward is so scared that he doesn't dare to jump."
Several technicians who were testing equipment and assisting in putting on safety gear also shook their heads.
Hawke looked terrified: "I can't, I can't! I really can't!"
David wanted to step forward and say that it was his turn.
Hawke held his arm and said, "Hurry, help me to the toilet. I...can't hold it anymore. I need to poop."
"Hey, man, hold it in and don't poop in your pants." David helped Hawke walk back.
McGinn said sarcastically, "Change him. This coward has no balls! I heard that he was eliminated from the extreme sports team because he was afraid of high jumps. Do you count on this kind of person?"
The intercom upstairs rang at this time, and the director's voice came over: "All departments report progress."
"Camera crew ready!"
"Lights ready!"
"The stunt team downstairs is ready..."
After talking about each department, the assistant director pressed the call button and said, "The stunt team upstairs is getting ready."
The director was forced by the producer to change the play, and he was full of resentment. He said sternly: "Speed up the progress upstairs."
McGinn whispered, "Change someone else. It's the same if you change someone else. He's already pulled up and can't get on the show! Do you want to bear the wrath of your boss? Don't forget, the producer is watching. Do you want him to doubt your ability?"
The assistant director remembered what Freddy said. No matter what, he had to ensure that the scene was completed smoothly. He immediately said to the technicians around him, "Put it on him!"
McGinn pulled a black hood out of his coat pocket and put it on his head.
Inside the building, Hawke and David entered the men's restroom on the eighth floor, the restroom window being at the back of the building.
Hawke opened the window and looked downstairs, and found a strong man in a black suit standing near the air cushion. He glanced again and saw a white man in a suit guarding the back door of the building.
David had doubts in his mind and was about to ask something when a voice from the intercom came from above, followed by a whistling sound of wind, and a figure fell down, hitting the air cushion with a loud bang, accompanied by McGinn's screams.
Hawke grasped the window sill and stared down.
Someone shouted, "Doctor! Call a doctor! He's injured! Both legs seem to be broken!"
