Chapter 606 The Incompetent Husband
Chapter 606 The Incompetent Husband.MP4
"traitor!!"
Inside the gladiator cage, Thor growled as he slashed his training sword at Alkenes with extreme ferocity, aiming straight for Alkenes' throat.
Alkenes, the last of the Phoenix Guard, also drew his sword to meet the attack, and the clash of swords resembled an urgent symphony.
“I have never betrayed you,” Alkenes said in a deep voice, his teeth sharp as a shark's.
This was the only change in him during the ten thousand years after his fall. But it wasn't some kind of chaotic corruption; rather, it was Arkenes who shaped himself into this way in order to blend in slightly with the rebellious group of the Emperor's sons.
"Never betrayed us? Then what were you doing on Istvan III ten thousand years ago?" Thor glimpsed fragments of Istvan III's past in the memories of the gene seed.
He turned around and swung his sword, drawing an extremely elegant arc in the air.
Alkenes stepped back slightly and then blocked Thor's sword with his own.
“I have never betrayed the Legion or the Primarch,” Alkenes emphasized. “Everything I have done has been based on loyalty to the Legion and the Primarch.”
"What about the Emperor?! What about your brothers?!" Thor slammed his sword down on Alkenes.
“I admit it was one of the many promises I broke.” Alkenes’s face darkened. “But you don’t understand, Thor, you don’t understand what Fugrim means to us.”
"Before the Primarchs returned, our Legion was already a mere shell of its former self. While hundreds of thousands of Shadowmoon Wolves were gaining glory across the galaxy, we were suffering terribly from the Blight. While the Imperial Fist was building magnificent fortifications, we couldn't even launch expeditions independently. While countless Ultramarines were carving out their own territories, we were left with only two hundred men."
"It was the return of Forgrim that saved us. He brought the Legion back from the brink of destruction. We were bathed in his firelight and followed in his footsteps, transforming from the most unknown Legion into the most glorious Legion."
"Forgrim is the Legion, and the Legion is Forgrim."
Alkenes' expression turned pained, and he whispered:
“I have never believed in the Chaos Gods, and I have never been interested in the Warmaster’s rebellion.”
"Thor, I simply chose to be loyal to the Primarch over the Emperor."
"But I have to admit, it was a wrong decision."
"I never imagined it would turn out like that. He once saved us, but in the end, he sent us into the abyss of corruption and depravity."
“Pathetic Alkenes, laughable Alkenes, wretched Alkenes.” A sharp, mocking voice echoed from the depths of Thor’s consciousness.
That was Lucius's voice, mocking Alkenes.
“He deserves to die, but you don’t even deserve to die.” Another, more composed voice rang out.
Saul became agitated by Lucius's voice and swung his sword to deflect Alkenes's blade, but Alkenes seized the opportunity to meet him head-on, forcing Saul to retreat repeatedly.
Thor had to admit that Alkenes' martial arts skills were extraordinary.
In the memories Taviz passed down through genetic inheritance, Alkenes, while not the most outstanding swordsman among the emperor's sons, was still among the top tier.
And during those ten thousand years, Arkenes did not indulge in debauchery and neglect his martial arts skills; on the contrary, he made even greater progress in his swordsmanship.
This may be why the Phoenix Chapter is so convinced of Alkenes's superiority.
Before Thor's return, Arkenes had been training the Phoenix Sons as an instructor.
Thor felt inexplicably irritated as he watched his brothers show respect to Alkenes.
This is actually quite strange. Thor himself had been mentored by Kahn back then, and Arkenes could never have betrayed them any deeper than Kahn.
But Saul just felt anxious and impatient.
"How could Phoenix have turned out like that? I still can't bear to recall that memory!"
Alkenes said in a trembling voice:
"That bastard Lucius subdued us. He led a group against the Primarch. Against the Primarch. The mighty Lucius, that bastard..."
"Poor Alkenes, only able to watch the Primarch and our game from afar, watching the Primarch's expression of enjoyment." Lucius's mocking voice echoed in Thor's mind again: "It's like an incompetent husband hiding in the closet spying."
"Shut up!!!" Thor roared, his sword suddenly becoming fierce, forcing Alkenes to retreat for a moment.
“Let me finish!” Alkenes thought Thor was talking about him.
He hesitated for a moment, then skipped over that part, since he himself wasn't really willing to recall those memories.
"I watched as the Legion gradually degenerated. I tried many times to salvage it, I even tried to find the Primarchs to discipline them, but the Primarchs' corruption far surpassed that of the entire Legion combined."
"I gradually despaired and even joined the Phoenix Council formed by that fraudster Aidoron, just because he promised to make the Son of the Emperor great again."
"Damn it, he's the one who destroyed our Phoenix Guard!"
"I drifted through ten thousand years in this daze until I met him on Fabius's ship."
Alkenes' tone suddenly became agitated:
“Sol Taviz, he is truly different. I see the glory of the Primarch in him.”
"Although he is a clone, he is the true son of the emperor, and he can truly lead us back to that glorious legion."
"Believe me, Saul, as long as he's here, I can undo the mistakes I've made."
"Then why have you been so slow to act? Why have you vanished without a trace?" Thor countered, feeling more that the Emperor's Son named Taviz within him was questioning him. "...The moment I saw Fugen, that bastard Tarasin suddenly appeared," Alkenes' expression fell.
Just then, outside the arena, a Phoenix Child wearing Hades-type Terminator power armor opened the arena and looked at Alkenes and Thor.
"My lords, the Primarch is going to the Glory of Macragge to attend the War Council, and he hopes that you can serve as his guards."
Alkenes lowered his sword slightly, signaling Thor to stop.
Thor did not pursue them further; he put the training sword back on the weapon rack.
"Perfect, you can also take this opportunity to see how the other Primarchs treat our Father of Genetics."
"You will find that he is very popular and trusted among the Primarchs."
“My genetic father is Roger Dorn,” Thor said coldly.
"Does Dorn know you're his son?" Alkenes asked, amused by Thor's attitude.
Although Thor was sharp-tongued, he did not refuse Fuchs's order to serve as his bodyguard, and he did want to see how the other Primarchs viewed Fuchs.
"Perhaps my hatred and anger affected my judgment, and also affected yours."
“If you loyal Primarchs believe him to be loyal, I am willing to accept and believe him.”
Taviz's voice rang in Thor's mind, clearest ever.
Thor could sense that Taviz also held some expectations for Fugen, harboring a vague hope.
He hated Forgrim so deeply because he had once loved Forgrim so deeply.
Fugan was waiting for Thor and Alkenes before the Anywhere Door that had been assigned to him.
The Primarch saw Thor approaching and couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth up slightly, seemingly feeling very satisfied.
The moment Saul saw his face, his heart skipped a beat.
For some reason, Saul felt a surge of pride when he saw Fugen's satisfied expression.
He soon felt ashamed and guilty about this inexplicable sense of pride.
Fugen seemed to sense Saul's thoughts, and his smile widened.
He nodded slightly to Thor, gesturing for Thor to follow behind him.
For some reason, Saul instinctively obeyed Fugen's orders.
The three of them passed through the Anywhere Door and in the blink of an eye arrived at the Glory of Macragge, in Robert Guilliman's rather unassuming office.
Robert Guilliman was hunched over his desk, his head buried in thick files. Thor immediately noticed that the Primarch's originally golden hair was now streaked with white.
Evelynn, the leader of the Death Army, was sitting at Guilliman's desk. Her hair was not tied up, and her silver-gold hair hung down to the table. She spread her long legs wide, rhythmically tapping her heels on the ground as she helped Guilliman process documents, looking every bit like a secretary.
Upon seeing Fugen, Evelyn put down the documents in her hand, nodded to Fugen, then leaned close to Guilliman's ear and whispered a few words to the regent before leaving the office.
"Why are you playing with pointy-eared demons again, Guilliman!"
A faint smile appeared on Fugen's lips:
"Look at you, spending all your time with that pointy-eared demon, your hair has turned white. I know an excellent old Chinese medicine doctor, would you like to ask him to take a look at your health?"
Fugan's words made Saul's expression freeze abruptly.
He knew that Lord Guilliman and Evelyn were together handling government affairs and documents, which had caused him to work so hard that his hair had turned gray.
But why did these words sound so strange coming from Fugen's mouth?
Guilliman looked up and stared menacingly at Fugen:
"Clone, have you betrayed the Empire today?"
Upon hearing this, Fugen's slightly mocking smile deepened: "That depends on which empire you're referring to."
"Our father's, or..."
Guilliman's expression immediately darkened further.
In Thor's mind, Lucius laughed loudly, and Taviz let out a desperate sigh.
Alkenes seemed a little uneasy. He moved slightly closer to Thor and whispered, "Don't worry, the Primarch just doesn't get along with Guilliman. He's on very good terms with Saint Gilles and Lane."
Just then, the sound of the Anywhere Door opening rang out again, and a bright light suddenly illuminated the entire room.
"Saint Gillespie! You look so much more radiant!"
