Chapter 138 Cheka
Chapter 138 Cheka
The man had a strong facial line, a slightly pointed chin and blue eyes. He was wearing a standard German general's uniform and a gold badge on his cap, marking him as a senior officer.
He Chi had seen this face in a book.
The father of German armor and the founder of blitzkrieg - Heinz Wilhelm Guderian.
He walked over and stopped in front of the soldier in his spurred military boots. The guard quickly let go of the girl's hair and saluted.
Guderian returned a standard salute, looked at the people present and frowned, "Ladies and gentlemen, such rough treatment of women does not seem to be in line with the cultivation that a German soldier should have."
"Sir, we suspect that this woman is a saboteur. She deliberately provided us with false information." Faced with the superior's questioning, the staff officer who had just used violence hurriedly explained.
"Is that really the case?" Guderian looked at the colonel beside him.
"Yes, sir, we verified the materials she translated, and all the dates and times are wrong!" the colonel staff officer explained.
Guderian hesitated for a moment and said, "Find an expert to verify it. If it is true, lock him up first, but don't use force."
"Who is our language expert?" the general asked.
"It should be Mr. Nukamolenko who was introduced by our ally." The colonel saluted and reported, and gestured to He Chi who was standing on the side of the room.
He Chi stood up and walked in front of the German general. "Can I take a look?"
Someone handed the translated document to He Chi. He lowered his head and began to check it while holding the original in one hand and the translated document in the other.
The eyes of everyone else in the room were focused on He Chi. The conclusion he made at this moment would determine the fate of the girl in front of him. Perhaps in the next second, the young girl in her prime would be thrown into a dark dungeon, and an unknown and miserable fate would be waiting for her.
"Hmm~" He Chi looked at it for about two minutes and then closed the document.
“There is no problem with this translation.”
"Impossible! I understand simple Russian. The date here is totally wrong! It's obvious that this woman deliberately sabotaged it!" The staff officer on the side accused loudly.
"Please look," He Chi pointed to several dates on the document, "the main problem with the translation is that these dates are different from the original text, but have you ever considered one thing? These documents are for communication with the Far East."
"so what?"
"For the past 100 years, the Far East has been using the Orthodox Julian calendar. Although the Soviet Union has been using the Gregorian calendar for a long time, changing old habits is not a matter of one day or one night. Many places in the Far East still retain the habit of using the Julian calendar when writing private letters."
"This letter is obviously a private letter between two mid-level commanders, so the lady just converted the Julian calendar date to make it easier to read. The original translation would be problematic."
Everyone showed an expression of realization, and the previously aggressive staff officer fell silent.
"It seems that our people were wrong, ma'am. I apologize to you on behalf of my soldiers." Guderian walked up to the woman and bowed his head to apologize.
This surprised He Chi a little. A German general took the initiative to apologize to the civilians of an occupied country. Should it be said that he was well-mannered or rigid? However, after thinking about some of the stories in the biography of this general, it was understandable.
The woman did not react but just shrank back with her shoulders hugged. Guderian came to He Chi again and said, "Mr. Nukamolenko, you have saved the honor of German soldiers. I thank you."
"It's just a small favor, sir." He Chi responded in German.
"Leo, make some arrangements. I want to invite Mr. Nukamolenko to lunch tomorrow." After instructing his adjutant, Gudli nodded and turned to leave.
And there was a pair of eyes in the crowd that was always chasing He Chi.
A small episode ended with a traitor getting in touch with a German senior official. After finishing a day's work, everyone was arranged by the German army to return to their respective rooms.
That night, there was a knock on He Chi's door. "The general asked me to compensate Miss Yulia, and she said she wanted to meet you to express her gratitude." The staff officer during the day stood aside expressionlessly. Outside the door was a young girl who had just washed herself, with a bathing blush on her face and just the right amount of shyness.
"You are the general's guest, but this is a military camp and you only have one hour." The staff officer gave him a meaningful look and then disappeared at the end of the corridor.
The girl leaned lightly against the wall and closed the door casually.
The body that had just been bathed exuded the fragrance of soapberries, and the ill-fitting coat, when stretched a little, revealed the white waist and shallow dimples.
"Sir, thanks to you for the day, I have no way to repay you but to..." the girl said as she leaned forward with her whole body.
"Please wait a moment, Yulia, can you answer me a question first?" He Chi put his hands on the girl's shoulders to separate her.
"At this time, what do you want to ask me?" said Yulia shyly.
He Chi leaned over and whispered in the other's ear, "Can you tell me what the dagger in your sleeve is for?"
A strong wind came! The sharp blade rushed towards He Chi's throat, but the tip of the blade stopped about two inches away from him.
A hand grasped Yulia's wrist like an iron clamp.
The woman tried her best to push the knife down but failed. She gritted her teeth and raised her knee to hit the man's lower body.
Boom!
Two people fell down.
The woman was restrained in an extremely ambiguous posture. He Chi exerted a little force on his hand and the knife flew out of his hand.
"A down-and-out language expert, a second-rate dancer, an attacker with a knife, who exactly are you?" He Chi asked with his head down.
"You damn traitor! I won't tell you anything!" The woman struggled excitedly, but was held down by He Chi again.
"Really? Are the people of NKVD so ready to die?" He Chi looked into the other person's eyes and said. (NKVD: People's Committee for Internal Affairs)
An expression of surprise appeared on the woman's face. She didn't understand when she was seen through.
"Not only you, the staff officer just now should also be your man, right? Otherwise, I don't believe you can come here so easily," He Chi said again, and the woman struggled even more violently.
"If I'm not your enemy, can you please stop resisting?"
"Do you think I will believe you? Nukamolenko, a running dog of the Ukrainian guerrillas! Damn traitor!" The woman said angrily, gritting her teeth, her body still twisting.
"What if I'm not Nukamolenko?" He Chi tore off a piece of hair that was stuck on, revealing skin of a completely different color.
"Who the hell are you?!"
"One of us, at least like you, we are against the Germans, affiliated with the British MI6, codename..."
At this point, the woman under him suddenly stopped struggling and looked at He Chi in surprise.
"You are 007?!!"
