NBA: Goat is actually me

Chapter 6 Portsmouth Invitational

Chapter 6 Portsmouth Invitational
The whole bus was silent.

No one reacted.

Three seconds later, Meng Jin's words exploded in the bus like a blockbuster bomb.

"Meng? Do you know what you are talking about?"

"I admit you played well in the final, but how many games did you play in the whole season? Five? Seven?"

"Meng! It's too early now."

"Fight alongside us, gain experience, and then go to that place again!"

Some teammates also support Meng Jin's idea.

Monroe: "Man, this is a risky idea, but I mean screw it! You have the talent and the determination, why not try it?"

Douglas smiled and said, "Crazy guy, but honestly, I'm curious about what will happen when you enter the NBA."

After being silent for about ten seconds, head coach Boeheim finally spoke: "Meng, come with me to the back seat, we can talk alone."

After Meng Jin sat down, Boeheim pulled out newspapers from CBS, NBC and ESPN from his clothes.

The news of Syracuse University's championship dominated the front page headlines.

Meng Jin's introduction occupies the largest space.

"Look! You're a big star! Everyone is watching you, everyone is looking forward to you, you have to make good use of this opportunity to show your talents on the university platform!"

Meng Jin glanced at Boeheim and said, "I already won the championship."

Boeheim looked helpless: "Come-on! Meng, you are only a freshman now."

"Coach." Meng Jin turned his head and looked at Boeheim: "Tell me something I don't know."

"You are a foreigner and may not understand the rules of the NCAA. We college students usually participate in the NBA draft after completing four years of college."

"So, you can't participate in the draft if you haven't graduated from college?"

"You can participate. What I mean is that college is a training ground. It can hone a player's mentality and skills. If you are a talented player, plus four years of college experience, it will be a natural thing for you to enter the NBA after graduation."

On the one hand, Coach Boeheim has selfish motives. He believes that a player like Meng Jin can become a powerful weapon with a little training. On the other hand, it is indeed for Meng Jin's own good. He still has a lot to improve in terms of both technology and experience.

Of course Meng Jin understood this, but once he had mastered all these, the rewards from the system would be less!

"Coach, thank you for your advice. I still decided to participate in this year's NBA draft."

Boeheim touched his forehead and wondered why this kid was so stubborn.

After thinking for a moment, Boeheim could only use his ultimate move.

"Meng, listen, I will do my best to help you. You have talents that most people don't have. I will help you become a top-notch player in both offense and defense. I will help you become the core of the team. I will help you become the best player in the United States. I will help you enter the lottery. There is only one thing you need to do, which is to stay here and play basketball peacefully!"

Boeheim looked directly at Meng Jin. He noticed the change in Meng Jin's eyes and knew that the boy was moved.

The next second, Meng Jin spoke again: "I believe you, coach, I believe everything you said, but I still decided to go my own way."

Boeheim asked incredulously, "You still decided to participate in this year's NBA draft?"

Meng Jin nodded, and Boeheim sighed.

For the next two days, Boheim was doing ideological work on Meng Jin.

On the bus, at celebrations, and even while eating.

Boeheim was almost sleeping under Meng Jin's bed!
But Meng Jin remained unmoved.

In the evening, Boeheim complained to Syracuse assistant coaches Bernie Fine and Wayne Morgan.

He began to doubt himself. Was his promise so unattractive?

What Boeheim didn't know was that it wasn't that his promises were unattractive, it was that the rewards of the system were too attractive.

Bernie Fine said that it might be effective to persuade everyone together. Wayne Morgan has a completely different way of thinking.

"Wouldn't it be better to just let him go?"

"Are you crazy?"

Boeheim looked at Morgan in shock.

Morgan shrugged. "Let the guy go to training camp. He'll come back after he's had his fill."

Bernie Fine nodded: "I agree. Those who attend the training camp are all seniors who are eager to enter the NBA. When they realize the gap, they will come back."

Boeheim's eyes lit up all of a sudden: "Good idea, let's do it!"

The next day, Meng Jin saw Boeheim not far away as soon as he walked out of the dormitory building.

It's easy to guess why the coach is looking for him.

"Meng! Meng!" Boeheim waved and shouted.

Meng Jin put on his headphones and turned on the read-but-not-reply mode.

After walking about ten meters, Boeheim caught up with Meng Jin at a trot.

"Hey! Coach, why are you sweating so much? When did you switch to long-distance running?"

Boeheim waved his hands and panted: "I called you more than ten times just now."

"Oh! I just turned the volume up to maximum." Meng Jin pointed to the headphones on his head.

At this time, two tall and hot girls came towards him and greeted Meng Jin: "HI! Mr. Big Cannon."

"Good morning, Mr. Cannon."

Meng Jin responded quickly: "Good morning, girls."

After saying hello, the two girls covered their mouths and smiled and walked away.

Meng Jin didn't know them, and he didn't expect the nickname to spread so quickly.

"Mr. Cannon? Not a bad nickname." Boeheim said, glancing casually at Meng Jin's crotch.

This look made Meng Jin feel a little uncomfortable; he didn't like being stared at by people of the same sex.

"Coach, if there's nothing else, I'll leave first. I still have to go to practice."

Meng Jin was about to turn around when Boeheim called him back: "Meng, I want a spot in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. Are you interested?"

Meng Jin didn't know what this was, so he asked, "Portsmouth Invitational?"

"Yes, every year there are many NBA candidates who will participate in this event, and many NBA scouts will go to watch this event. You can use it as a tryout opportunity, which will be good for you to join the NBA."

"Did I hear you right, Coach?"

Meng Jin did not expect this sudden reversal.

Meng Jin smiled and continued, "Coach, you finally said something useful these past two days."

Boeheim also smiled and said, "Since you have made up your mind, as a coach I must do what I can."

After saying this, Boeheim handed the invitation letter to Meng Jin.

Meng Jin took it and shook the invitation letter: "I won't let you down, coach."

"Have fun, oh no, play well and make a great performance."

"Thanks, coach."

Looking at Meng Jin's back, Boeheim gave a meaningful smile.
