Chapter 394 Finally Home

They thought that since the carriage was going so fast, they wouldn't be spotted, but to their surprise, a leopard caught up with their carriage in the blink of an eye.

Su Tai turned pale with fright.

"How to do?"

Shen Yi quickened his pace, holding the reins with one hand and grabbing Su Tai's arm with the other. "You go into the carriage first. I'm still wearing my crossbow, so there's no need to panic for now."

He doesn't want to take action unless absolutely necessary.

Su Tai breathed a sigh of relief and quickly slipped into the car, grabbing the door handle.

It's likely that her actions provoked the leopard, because the creature actually approached the carriage, staring at Shen Yi for a moment and then at the horse, seemingly weighing who to attack.

Shen Yi had an absolute instinct for wild animals. He immediately released the reins, hooked his feet tightly around the carriage, and aimed at the cheetah, firing an arrow from his crossbow.

The cheetah howled in pain, but continued its relentless pursuit.

Shen Yi could only fire a second arrow; it took five arrows in a row to finally bring down the cheetah.

After the cheetah fell, Shen Yi drove the carriage back, delivered the final blow, jumped off the carriage to retrieve the arrow, and tied the cheetah to the back of the carriage.

Su Tai leaned out of the car window, smelled the strong stench of blood, and couldn't help but frown. "We have to leave quickly, or we don't know what kind of wild beasts we'll attract if we wait any longer."

The horse ran very fast, and the couple finally found a large post station as night fell.

This post station is located at the border between the Ice Plains and Langya Kingdom, and people traveling between the two places usually stay overnight here.

The shop is a mixed bag, with all sorts of people from all walks of life, from peddlers to merchants to dignitaries.

Women like Su Tai are easy targets.

Fortunately, she had worn a veil beforehand.

Furthermore, with Shen Yi carrying a cheetah, he intimidated everyone around him, causing the guests chatting and laughing in the inn's lobby to stop and secretly peek at him.

Shen Yi looked very cold when he didn't smile. He threw the cheetah to the ground.

The shopkeeper hurriedly and cautiously ran over to greet them.

"Sir, would you like a meal or a room at the inn?"

Shen Yi asked succinctly, "Just staying one night. Should I pack my things?"

The shopkeeper nodded busily, like a chicken pecking at rice, "We'll take them! Our prices are definitely fair, no cheating the young or old."

He ignored the innkeeper's incessant chatter, took Su Tai's hand, and went straight upstairs to their room.

The shopkeeper quickly called the waiter over to help.

People in the hall then began to whisper about Shen Yi's identity and the cheetah, and some even muttered about Su Tai. However, they stopped after a few words, afraid that Shen Yi and Su Tai upstairs would hear them.

A short while later, the shopkeeper personally went up to deliver the food and handed over the money from selling the cheetah to Shen Yi.

After the couple finished their meal and lay down to rest, Su Tai asked worriedly, "Do you think it's safe here?"

Shen Yi pulled her into his arms. "Don't worry, we just sold a cheetah. No one will dare to mess with us tonight. Get a good night's sleep, and we'll head back tomorrow."

Su Tai nodded obediently and fell into a deep sleep while holding Shen Yi.

After another day of travel, they finally saw the Shenjiazhuang they had been longing for.

When the carriage entered the village, the villagers were all in an uproar when they saw that it was Shen Yi and Su Tai. They chased after them, asking all sorts of questions.

The couple had no choice but to get down and walk.

Seeing villagers carrying stones and bricks along the way, Shen Yi asked, "Who's repairing their house?"

In the past two years, almost every month someone in the village has built a house.

An old woman laughed loudly, "It's not building houses, it's building a school. The village chief really went all out this time. He managed to persuade those four families in the village to acquire additional land to build houses. He cleared out five acres of open space in the center of the village, saying he wanted to build the school like your ancestral home. The walls are already up now." Shen Yi went over to take a look and saw that most of the men in the village were working there.

The sound is noisy.

When Shen Ying saw them, she walked over happily. “You’re back! Look at our village school, isn’t it impressive! The day before yesterday, Magistrate Lu came to look for you. When he found you hadn’t returned, he wandered around the village twice, praising our village for its foresight and saying that this school would benefit future generations. He was so impressed that the old man was embarrassed.”

Shen Yinghong was beaming, showing no sign of embarrassment whatsoever.

Shen Yi didn't expose him, and pondered for a moment before saying, "Is Lord Lu urging me to go to the county government to take up my post?"

Shen Ying nodded slightly, "I guess so! Spring plowing has just ended, and you haven't gone yet, so he must be asking. Go by yourself tomorrow."

"Thank you, Uncle!" Shen Yi said, and quickly took Su Tai back.

As soon as I arrived at my doorstep, I heard the sound of someone reading aloud coming from next door.

As soon as the courtyard gate opened, Shen Yuezhang excitedly rushed into Su Tai's arms, "Father, Mother, you're finally back! If you hadn't come back, our house would have been torn down by my younger brother and sister!"

The couple's hearts skipped a beat, and they rushed into the yard.

"Where are they? What have they broken this time?" The couple anxiously searched for the twins.

Shen Yuezhang led them to the kitchen.

As soon as he stepped inside, he saw two small black coal balls rush out and Shen Yi picked them up, one in each hand.

Shen Congrong chased after them in a fit of rage, wielding a spatula. Upon seeing Su Tai and Shen Yi, she instantly broke down, crying, "Father! Mother! They...they ruined all the noodles I cooked, and almost set the kitchen on fire!"

Su Tai was startled and finally realized that the kitchen was filled with smoke and fire.

The eldest and second eldest were also covered in dirt.

"Shen Yi, take them to clean up, I'll handle it."

Su Tai sent the four children away and quickly entered the water space to extinguish the fire.

When the thick smoke cleared, she walked out of the kitchen, covered in soot and looking utterly dejected, and gave a good scolding to the four children standing in a row in the yard.

"What's going on? Can someone explain?"

Shen Yuezhang was the first to step forward. "Mother, I told my younger brother and sister that I'm going to do the laundry. My eldest brother volunteered to cook for us, and my younger brother and sister said they wanted to help."

“You said we should be diligent and not be lazy,” Shen Congyu argued.

Su Tai glared at him fiercely.

Shen Congyu immediately shut his mouth.

Shen Yuezhang continued, "While I was washing, I heard my younger brother shouting. Just as I came out, I heard the sound of a wooden stake. I went to open the door for my parents, but I didn't know what had happened."

Su Tai laughed angrily, "You're really trying to absolve yourself of all responsibility."

As she spoke, she turned her gaze to her second son, whose chest was heaving violently with anger. "Good son, if you have any grievances, just tell me, and I will stand up for you."

Shen Congyu glanced at his mother's smeared face, then angrily pointed at the twins, "These two troublemakers! They were messing with the flour when I was burning firewood. I finally got the firewood lit, and when I went to stop them from playing with the flour, I turned around and they had pulled the firewood out of the stove and were even fighting with torches, knocking over my noodles! Waaah!"

Su Tai's face was so dark it was almost dripping with water.

The twins were terrified and huddled together, seeking help from Shen Yi.

Shen Yi reached out to stop them from approaching, saying expressionlessly, "You're too dirty, don't touch me!"

Soon after, the sound of a child crying and screaming came from the yard.

Chu Heng, who was in class next door, put down his book and walked out with a worried expression. As soon as he entered the courtyard, he saw Su Tai, who looked disheveled, chasing the twins all over the yard with a rattan cane, while Shen Yi sat there calmly sunbathing.

She greeted him calmly, saying, "My wife is disciplining our child; I'm sorry to have disturbed you, Mr. Chu."
