Chapter 61 Intuition
Xingcheng Railway Station was as hot and crowded as ever, with crowds surging towards the platform corridor.

The few people who arrived early and used the internal staff entrance quickly entered the carriage as soon as the train arrived at the station, thus avoiding the 'commotion'.

Because of the special treatment given to researchers in Yanbei, they were able to buy several soft sleeper tickets, and the experience they enjoyed further solidified their previous idea.

They even quietly upgraded the meals that were intended as compensation.

A long whistle sounded.

People who hadn't boarded yet rushed to the doors, and many even climbed in through the open windows, prompting passengers wearing hats and holding whistles to shout that it was dangerous.

"Clang clang clang hiss~ Clang hiss clang hiss~"

The green train slowly pulled out of the station with the second whistle.

Xiao Qiu, who had been watching with great interest through the car window, finally looked away and sat back down on her bed.

"Uncle Fu..."

"Wait a minute, Xiao Qiuqiu, let's talk about whether we can change how we address each other?"

After finally managing to climb onto the upper bunk with one leg, Fu Jiaming peeked out and looked down at the child on the lower bunk, discussing something.

“You call Su Ning and Luo Shuangshuang ‘sister,’ right? I’m friends with them. How can you call me ‘uncle’? That’s a generational difference.”

"But Uncle Fu, Mom said that anyone who looks younger than you is an older brother or sister, and only those who are much older than you should be called Uncle Bai Bai!"

The implication is that of the four people, he's the one who doesn't look young? He looks old?
Of course, in terms of age, it's not a problem for him, who is in his early twenties, to be her uncle, who is a little girl, but this kind of differential treatment in addressing her... is really heartbreaking!

"scoff~"

Yan Bei, sitting diagonally below, sneered and added insult to injury, "You brought this humiliation upon yourself."

"Hehe~ How dare you talk to your uncle like that? Don't you have any manners?"

This prompted Fu Jiaming to immediately retort, only to realize afterward: "Hehe, this is a good way to address someone as 'uncle,' it automatically elevates them to a generation!"

“Su Ning, I think you shouldn’t give him the food you prepared. Older people don’t digest well if they eat too much.”

"Well, that makes sense."

Xiao Qiu covered her mouth, watching the three of them clash, her eyes crinkling into crescent moons with laughter.

Only when the carriage door was opened from the outside did the group stop their childish verbal sparring.

A young couple walked in. Judging from their sweet and shy glances at each other from time to time, they must have just started dating.

The group exchanged a few smiles and simple greetings, all hoping to get along harmoniously in the same carriage for the next three or four days.

The last person to enter was a middle-aged man with a buzz cut and a resolute face.

There were no difficult or unreasonable people around, and the atmosphere in the carriage became increasingly lively thanks to Fu Jiaming's outgoing personality, who could chat with anyone.

"Sister Ningning."

Listening quietly from the side, occasionally responding politely when called upon, Su Ning felt a small hand quietly slip into her hand, and her originally aloof and cold smile became a little more genuine.

He squeezed her small hand, then lowered his head and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong, Xiao Qiu?"

"I need to pee... Oh, no, Sister Ningning said that girls should say they need to go to the toilet."

"Sweetie, let's go put on your shoes and I'll take you to the toilet."

Nodding, Xiao Qiu released her fingers, put on the sandals that were under the bed, and fastened the buttons.

After saying something to Yan Bei who was looking over, Su Ning took the little guy's hand and opened the sliding door of the carriage.

In the narrow corridor, barely wide enough for two people to pass through, some people were sitting or standing, waiting to exchange their tickets.

We walked all the way to the back of the sleeper car but still couldn't find an empty toilet, so we had to lead her through the dining car to the hard seat car.

After walking through several sections, I finally saw a slightly open, vacant toilet.

"Xiao Qiu, come in quickly, I'll be waiting for you at the door, okay?"

"Okay, I'll be right there!"

After the little one went inside, Su Ning pulled the door shut from the outside and stood there waiting for her.

Looking from the back of the train, there was almost no place to stand in the hard-seat carriage; it was either filled with large bags and suitcases or people sitting on the floor.

Even the open space right next to the toilet and the train door is like that.

The various smells were pungent, and with the hotter weather of midsummer, the mixed smells became even more intense.

"Sister Ningning, I'm all better!"

Upon hearing this, she quickly let go of the doorknob, took the hand that Xiao Qiu offered, and prepared to walk back.

When they reached one of the carriages, their steps abruptly halted. Before Xiao Qiu could ask, Su Ning turned and scooped her up in his arms. Using Xiao Qiu's body to shield most of his face, Su Ning carefully examined her, becoming increasingly certain that the mother and daughter sitting near the connecting door between the two carriages were indeed those two—

He kindly reminded her, but she pointed to an old woman in the opposite direction, and a little girl catching insects to eat in the bamboo forest of Fengzhu Ridge.

Could this little girl be her granddaughter?
I don't know why, but this thought just popped into my head, and besides...

The little girl kept her head down, leaning against the door without moving, while the old woman was holding a baby who was a little over a year old in her arms.

It's not uncommon for an elderly person to travel with two children, and there are even quite a few people on trains traveling long distances with more children.

It's strange that there was no food or drink prepared for the baby, and the baby was sleeping soundly without crying or fussing.

Silently noting down the carriage number, Su Ning naturally walked past her, carrying Xiao Qiu in her arms.

Sensitive Xiao Qiu noticed something, and without making a sound, she nestled against her shoulder, wrapped her arms around her neck, and peeked back.

After passing two more carriages, Xiao Qiu leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Sister Ningning, that young lady has an injured hand."

"Ok?"

“I saw it, there were bluish-purple circles on her hands.”

Considering the little guy's height, he should be able to be seen if looking down from above.

Bluish-purple circles? Could they be marks from ligatures?
Should we tell J, but rely solely on her guesses and suspicions... what if we're wrong?
Returning to the carriage with a heavy heart, Su Ning's already furrowed brows deepened.

"What happened?"

"without…"

He swallowed the answer that was on the tip of his tongue, and looked up at Yan Bei: "What if? It's better to be wrong and apologize than to pretend it never happened."

I put Xiao Qiu back on the bed and walked to the other side in two steps.

He subconsciously stepped aside, and when the other person actually sat down right next to him, Yan Bei's ears turned bright red, but his face remained as calm and composed as ever.

"I suspect... there are human traffickers."

The heat emanating from the person just a hand's width away seemed to penetrate his clothes and scorch him, making the half of his body on the side closest to her feel burning hot.

Trying to ignore the strange feeling, Yan Bei focused her attention back on what she was saying, and sure enough, the throbbing pain disappeared instantly, and her body finally returned to normal.

Where are they? How many people are there?

"In carriage number twelve, I wasn't sure, it was just my gut feeling."

Even though she expressed uncertainty, Yan Bei did not question her, because he believed her.

Although they had only known each other for a short time, he trusted her completely, both in terms of her character and how she handled things.

“A woman in her fifties was with two children, a girl of six or seven years old and a baby under two years old.”

She then whispered her suspicions to him, along with the entire process of how she met the two of them.

Yan Bei instinctively reached for the pen, only snapping back to reality when her hand was empty. Her expression grew increasingly serious as she spoke.

This woman is indeed very suspicious.

If it's as she said...

"Don't go anywhere here, I'm going out for a bit."

"No, you're still injured!"

In a moment of panic, she grabbed his arm, but quickly let go when she realized it was inappropriate.

However, in that brief moment of contact, foreseeing what would happen soon, Su Ning refused to let him leave no matter what.

"Don't worry, I won't confront that person. I'll just go find Cheng J."

Taking a deep breath, she realized that since the matter had been confirmed and it was caused by her, there was no reason for her to hide.

Su Ning waved her hand, looking at him with an expression that left no room for argument, "You haven't seen the person before and don't know who it is, how can you point it out to Cheng J? I'll go instead, you keep an eye on Xiao Qiu."

"no!"

If it really is a human trafficker, there can't be only one person in this situation; there must be accomplices. What if the accomplices, who are hidden in the crowd, see you during the identification and then retaliate?
How could Yanbei allow her to face such a dangerous situation? However, judging from her expression, dark emotions were churning in her eyes.

The standoff lasted only a few seconds before she backed down, saying, "I'll go with you."

"What are you two talking about, so mysteriously?"

"Jiaming, keep an eye on Xiaoqiu. I'll go with Su Ning to the dining car to get something to eat."
