Chapter 60 Throbbing
Xiao Qiu was carefully munching on her bun, but upon hearing the knock on the door, she immediately stuffed it all into her mouth, her cheeks puffing out like a little hamster.

"Have some porridge, Xiao Qiu, don't rush, don't choke!"

Seeing this, Su Ning couldn't help but laugh and said, "Chew slowly."

Obediently, Xiao Qiu picked up the small bowl in front of her with both hands, nodded obediently, slurped up some porridge, and then began to chew.

It had rained last night, and the vines on the courtyard wall were covered with crystal-clear water droplets, which fell down with a rustling sound as the wind chimes rang under the eaves when the wind blew.

She hurried to the door and pulled off the bolt, and unexpectedly met a pair of eyes that were like a clear spring, clear and bright, with her reflection entirely in the dark pupils.

That focused gaze gave the person being stared at the illusion that he was their whole world.

The increasingly loud heartbeats in his chest left Yan Bei feeling somewhat lost and bewildered, and for the first time, he awkwardly looked away.

"Ahem, are you all ready?"

Shai Ran chuckled and shook off the strange thoughts that popped into her head. Su Ning opened the door wide, revealing a suitcase in the yard. "I also prepared some dry food in the kitchen. Have you had breakfast yet?"

"Did not have time."

"That's just right."

While the two were talking, Xiao Qiu had already finished her meal and put on the short-sleeved overalls she had just bought yesterday. Perhaps it was because she was about to go to her mother's hometown, which she longed for, but although she still looked dark and thin, her eyes had a gleam in them and her spirit was different.

"With your things ready, we can set off."

"I'll go help carry it..."

"No, you should think about your ribs."

She smiled and declined his offer, saying that the things weren't heavy, just a bit numerous, and she could manage on her own, so there was no need to trouble him, a patient.

Waving to Xiao Qiu, Su Ning quickly walked to the suitcase and slung the small cloth bag on top across her chest.

"This is from Shuangshuang to Xiaoqiu. I put some snacks inside for you. You can take them and eat them if you get hungry on the train."

"Good~"

I patted her head, then went to the kitchen to get a large canvas bag filled with pots, pans, bottles, and jars that made a crisp clinking sound.

He carried the bag and dragged the suitcase with one hand, while holding Zhang Qin's urn wrapped in black cloth in the other.

"Okay, let's go."

"Uh-huh!"

"Ningning, where's Little Circle? Aren't you taking it with you?"

She definitely had to bring the little circle along; she was afraid it would tear her apart if she left it here alone when she got home.

These past few days, Little Circle has had to stay obediently in the Peach Blossom Spring space and can't show itself for the time being.

However, the truth couldn't be told outright. Su Ning silently apologized and casually made up an excuse to fool the little guy.

……

Cars can't get into the alleys along the river embankment, so they have to park on the main street.

Fu Jiaming, who was waiting in the car, leaned his head and most of his body out of the window, frequently looking towards the alley entrance.

Seeing the two adults and one child walking out leisurely, my eyes lit up.

A handsome man and a beautiful woman, plus a cute little girl...

I don't know what scene came to mind, but I just chuckled to myself.

"What are you grinning about? Aren't you going to lend a hand?"

"Okay, coming right away!"

Dragging his legs, Fu Jiaming took the canvas bag and package box from her hands. Hearing a sound coming from the large bag in her left hand, he subconsciously shook it. "What's this?"

"Smell it?"

"Hahaha, Su Ning, do you think I'm really stupid? Now that you've said that, I know!"

Fu Jiaming thought of the lavish meal he had on the day of the housewarming party; the taste still made his mouth water.

The hand holding the bag immediately became obedient, carefully handling it as if afraid of spilling it. "They'll sit in front with me, and I promise to take good care of them both!"

"Get out!"

After she put her suitcase away, Yan Bei walked to the car door and let the two of them get in first. She chuckled and scolded him, then sat down in the back seat.

The two sat on either side of each other, with Xiao Qiu sitting between them.

The car slowly drove off, and the children who had been watching with curiosity laughed and ran after it.

Xiao Qiu, riding in the car for the first time, blinked her eyes, looking around with a face full of novelty. "Fu Jiaming, there are steamed buns and tea eggs in the canvas bag. Take them out and eat some."

"Alright! I was just about to eat something on the train, and I was even thinking of grabbing a bite. Suning, you're so thoughtful!"

While praising him, Fu Jiaming continued working. He unzipped the zipper and immediately saw two small bundles wrapped in white gauze on top.

The aroma of tea wafted straight to the top of my head as I opened the bottle. I gave two large steamed buns and two tea eggs to Yan Bei, who was in the back seat of the driver, before I started eating to my heart's content.

"Ningning, why don't you eat something too?"

"Suning, haven't you eaten yet?"

Upon hearing this, without Yan Bei needing to say anything, Fu Jiaming took a bite of the bun and used one hand to grab another bun and an egg, handing them behind him.

"You guys eat, I'm carsick and don't have much of an appetite."

No wonder she looked unwell when she got into the car. Yan Bei lowered his eyes, and for some reason, he quietly kept this in mind.

"Since you feel uncomfortable, why don't you close your eyes and rest for a while? I'll watch over you, Xiao Qiu."

"Yes, she won't feel uncomfortable once she falls asleep. Xiao Qiu is a good girl, nothing will happen to her, don't worry!"

Faced with the two's suggestion, Su Ning, who was indeed feeling a bit uncomfortable, did not refuse. He straightened his back and slowly leaned back in the seat, closing his eyes.

The car fell silent immediately, with even the chewing sounds deliberately kept to a minimum.

……

As the car swayed and bumped its way up the mountain road, the person who had been dozing off gradually fell asleep with their breathing even.

He kept a close eye on her, especially when they passed a large pit, Yanbei would turn to look at her, worried that she might bump her head.

As the head swayed with the car and gradually moved closer to her, Yan Bei subconsciously straightened his back and his shoulders involuntarily leaned towards her.

When her head finally rested on his shoulder, Yan Bei, realizing what he had done, froze instantly. He turned his head to look out of the car as if burying his head in the sand, but his body remained as firm as a rock, not daring to move.

Even the dull pain in my chest couldn't outweigh the increasingly intense heart palpitations.

Xiao Qiu, nestled between the two, glanced up at the person who was sleeping soundly, then reached out her little hands to hug her waist, thinking that she should try her best not to make her uncomfortable from swaying.

Because of her movement, Su Ning's head got closer to Yan Bei, almost nestled in his neck, pressed against his protruding collarbone.

With each breath, he was filled with her faint fragrance, and a playful strand of hair kept brushing against his cheek and chin.

With his hands clenched silently at his sides, Yan Bei looked at the trees flashing past the window as if he were seeing the most beautiful things in the world. A smile crept into his eyes, spreading out in ripples.

……

A few hours passed in the blink of an eye.

Slowly opening her eyes, Su Ning felt the warmth on her face and was instantly awakened from her drowsy sleep.

When she realized that she was resting her head on Yan Bei's neck, there was a suspicious water stain on her white shirt.

With a loud bang, the intense heat from her rapidly flushed face even caused her to experience a brief period of tinnitus.

"I...I'm sorry, are you alright? I..."

How could it get so close and stick to you?!

Seeing his pale face, his forehead covered in fine beads of sweat, and his eyes filled with forced restraint, Su Ning ignored the questions that flashed through her mind and instead felt worried and annoyed.

I wonder how long he's been holding this position? Is it putting pressure on his injured area?

"It's nothing, just a little sore and numb."

He gasped, and Yan Bei, enduring the pain, tried to sound relaxed, saying, "It'll be alright in a bit."

Su Ning wasn't a doctor and didn't know if what he said was true, so she could only watch with some skepticism. Seeing him slowly move his neck and shoulders, and that his chest seemed to be fine, she felt a little relieved.

The Peach Blossom Spring can heal wounds...

He lowered his eyes, concealing the complex emotions within.

If you fill a bottle with air and let Yan Bei drink it like crazy, it's normal for him not to drink it and think she's crazy; but if he does drink it, she'll have to suspect he's not right in the head and rack her brains to explain.

Forget it, if it really causes him secondary harm, she'll just cover all the subsequent medical expenses and meals.

"you…"

"Huh? We've arrived?"

Fu Jiaming, who was in the front row, also slowly woke up. He had been sleeping late and waking up early, and after sleeping for several hours, he did not feel refreshed but instead felt even more tired and sleepy.

He yawned, wiped away his tears with his shoulder, and turned around to see the two of them silently avoiding each other's gaze. Fu Jiaming looked puzzled: Something felt off. Had he missed something?
