Chapter 24 Bread and Fruit Cake
At the ingredient distribution point, Vasida took a basket of ingredients for fried rice, steak, and vegetable salad. After meeting up with Moran, she was stunned when she looked into Vasida's basket:
"Molan! Why did you bring so many seasonings, especially salt and sugar?"

"I'm afraid I won't have room for anything else for the next few days, and breadfruit is really awful. So I'm thinking of trying to make breadfruit taste better."

As Moran spoke, she took a jar of honey from a passing shelf.

Breadfruit only smells like bread, but it's quite juicy. Juicing breadfruit is one idea.

"Didn't Senior Lilith say that breadfruit can't be cooked?" Vasita slapped her forehead after saying that. "Oh right, Moran, you're a soul from another world. Maybe you can use cooking methods from another world!"

Other witches are full after eating a little breadfruit, but Vasita can eat hundreds of skewers at a time when she's hungry!

Breadfruit has no seeds and a very thin skin, so Moran simply cut two breadfruits and steamed them.

With Lilith's reminder, she and Vasita pressed the pot lid down tightly and waited anxiously.

After steaming for less than a minute, I could feel the pot making loud "bang bang bang" sounds, which were quite loud.

After a while, once they were sure the explosion was over, they lifted the lid off the pot.

The entire pot was filled with fine, yellow pulp that, at first glance, looked like some kind of excrement. Vasita frowned: "Can this still be used?"

"It seems I can't make candied fruit, but it's perfect for making bread and fruit cakes."

Moran collected all the fruit puree, added sugar, and stirred.

Thinking that breadfruit was even more sour than jujubes, she added more sugar.

To enhance the flavor, some pumpkin puree was also mixed in.

After mixing thoroughly, spread the mixture evenly on a baking sheet, bake it in the oven at a low temperature until dry, and then cut it into small pieces to finish.

Two breadfruits and one pumpkin made a basket full of breadfruit cakes.

"Try it!" Moran and Vasida each took a piece.

"Mmm! Delicious! Sweet and sour!" Vasita couldn't hide the joy in her eyes. "Moran! You did it right away! You're amazing!"

Moran shook her head: "It's still early! It only means the taste is good, but I don't know if the special effects of breadfruit have been ruined!"

She ate a whole breadfruit this morning, but she doesn't feel hungry yet, probably because she can't feel the fullness of the breadfruit.

Vasida was similar; after eating one or two pieces of fruit cake, even if they were made of breadfruit, she didn't feel much in her stomach.

Moran glanced at the sky outside: "It's still early. Senior Lilith and Sylph probably haven't eaten yet!"

"I'll go get them!" Vasita rushed out in a flurry.

A few minutes later, the four little witches gathered together.

Lilith and Sylph stared at the thin yellow slices on the table: "Is this made from breadfruit?"

Moran nodded: "We also added pumpkin. Vasita and I tried it, and it tasted alright. We just don't know if the super-satisfying and magic-restoring effects will still be there."

Lilith and Sylph then took a piece to eat. "How is it?" Moran asked expectantly.

"It tastes amazing! I love it!" Sylph couldn't believe it was made from breadfruit that was so sour it made your teeth ache.

Lilith nodded: "It tastes good, but the magic restoration effect seems to have disappeared... Did you heat it up?"

“Yes! It’s been steamed,” Moran said.

“That makes sense. A senior student did some research and found that the magic restoration effect disappears after breadfruit is heated and explodes. That might be what caused the explosion,” Lilith said.

Moran's biggest wish was to preserve the magic restoration effect, so hearing this inevitably brought some disappointment.

At this moment, Sylph said, "But the feeling of fullness from breadfruit seems to still be there! I was a little hungry just now, but after eating one piece, I felt full, which feels about the same as taking a bite of breadfruit."

“The feeling of fullness is unaffected,” Lilith affirmed.

“Then these can be carried around as snacks! You can take some with you when you go to class at the castle, and that will solve your lunch problem,” Vasita said.

"That's true! This is easier to carry than regular bread and pastries, and it's more filling. It's made with breadfruit, so it's also very nutritious. It's a great way to quickly fill your stomach."

Lilith felt that it still had its merits.

Moran felt a little better. If she couldn't recover her magic, it would be good to use it to fill her stomach when she didn't have time to cook.

And this was only her first attempt.

If it were really that easy, even if only a novice witch was researching it, we wouldn't still be eating breadfruit raw.

Moran divided the bread and fruit cakes she had made into four portions, wrapped them in parchment paper, and gave one portion to each of Vasita and the other two: "These are for you!"

"I can't accept this!" Lilith felt embarrassed to accept food from her junior who hadn't yet learned cooking magic.

Without using magic, you have to try doing it yourself; making food isn't easy.

"This is a tasting gift!" Moran said. "I still have some ideas that I haven't tried yet, and I'll need to ask you to sample them later!"

"Then I won't stand on ceremony. Just call me next time!" Lilith happily accepted the gift.

“Me too!” Vasita and Sylph said as well.

“Okay!” Moran said with a smile.

After seeing them off, Moran sighed, picked out a smaller breadfruit, and ate it in small bites.

Poor thing, she spent the whole afternoon making fruit cakes, but she dared not eat too many of them. She had to save room for breadfruit to restore her magic.

Classes start tomorrow, and no matter how much she has to apologize to her tongue, she must recover as much magic as possible to prepare for tomorrow's lessons.

The first class is at 10 a.m. Although the class starts late, it takes two hours to climb the mountain to the castle, so I have to get up at 6 a.m. tomorrow.

So she planned to go to bed early tonight, and to avoid disturbing her sleep, she only ate until she was slightly full.

I wonder what "Introduction to Alchemy" teaches; it must be very interesting.
