Chapter 64 I'll call your name
Early in the morning, Ji Sisi boiled the spiritual spring water and left it on the table to cool. After feeding Xiao Huihui medicine and water, she went out.

The People's Hospital is in the provincial capital, and it would take three or four days to go there and back. Ji Sisi got up early to make sure she could greet Captain Ma.

As soon as Ji Sisi entered the office of the sixth team, she saw Zhang Qiang sitting inside. She didn't know if it was because of the poor lighting or because he hadn't washed his face in the morning, but Zhang Qiang had a dark face so early in the morning.

In contrast, Captain Ma and Li Yanhong were laughing so hard their eyes were almost closed.

"Sisi, have you had breakfast yet? This is cornbread made by your aunt, try some!"

Captain Ma opened the lunchbox, took out two steamed buns, and handed them to Ji Sisi.

"You're a great hero in our team now. I didn't expect that Professor Chen's promise yesterday would be fulfilled today. The people from the Agricultural Materials Bureau told us to go to the county to pick up fertilizer this afternoon."

Ji Sisi was also surprised; she hadn't expected Professor Chen to be so decisive and efficient.

That makes sense now. No wonder Zhang Qiang came to the team so early in the morning; he probably brought the news from the commune.

"That's great, Captain Ma. I came here today to ask you for four days off. I have some family matters to attend to and need to go to the provincial capital. It will take a few days."

Captain Ma was overjoyed by the fertilizer and nodded in agreement without hesitation.

Just as Ji Sisi was about to leave, Zhang Qiang called out to her, "Ji Sisi, the Agricultural Supplies Institute specifically requested that you report to them from now on. If you leave, who will report to you?"

"We can't just forget the kindness of others who have helped us so much."

Zhang Qiang squeezed out a sentence through his back teeth, his disgust for Ji Sisi deepening once again.

When he received the notification at the office in the morning, he even suspected that there was something wrong with his ears.

Only after Director Yan repeatedly emphasized it could he barely accept this reality.

Back at the Sixth Team, after listening to Captain Ma recount yesterday's events, Zhang Qiang now felt that Ji Sisi was a shameless person who was simply disgracing their commune.

Did they call on her to report?

Ji Sisi frowned slightly, wondering what Chen Chen meant.
But it's all good. At least going to the county will allow me to make some connections. It's a bit of a hassle, but at least it will reduce my trips from once a month to once a week.

"I'll be back in four days. The report is given once a week, so I should have enough time."

Zhang Qiang opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something.

Ji Sisi turned around, her tone contemptuous, clearly targeting Zhang Qiang.

"I advise some people to focus less on others and to do their own job well, which is more important than anything else."

Captain Ma and Li Yanhong's eyes kept darting back and forth between Ji Sisi and Zhang Qiang.

Now Captain Ma finally understood why Zhang Qiang had been insisting on recommending Ji Sisi to the Sixth Team – it turned out he was using the Sixth Team to harm Sisi!

Captain Ma's expression was serious. "That Zhang Da Wa kid is really dishonest."

Then look at Ji Sisi. She had only been in the comfortable commune for two days before being forced to go to the countryside. Not only did she not feel resentful, but she also shamelessly did her best to contribute to the sixth team.

"Sisi, you go ahead and take care of your family matters. If you haven't come back by the appointed time, I'll just swallow my pride and apologize to Professor Chen."

After Ji Sisi left, Zhang Qiang looked at Captain Ma with confusion and disappointment.

"Uncle Ma, how can you be so biased towards outsiders? Ji Sisi just takes leave whenever she wants. Does she have any sense of teamwork at all? How can someone like that help Team Six?"

Captain Ma snorted irritably and retorted to Zhang Qiang, "Then tell me, if Sisi doesn't count, then what does? You're quite something, aren't you? You've been in the commune for so many years, have you ever helped the team even once?"

“How can this be related to me? I’m just an ordinary liaison officer. We’re from the same production team, we’re family. You’re criticizing me for the sake of a little girl, Uncle, aren’t you being dishonest?” Zhang Qiang didn’t expect to be rebuffed by Captain Ma, and stammered in his defense.

"Isn't Sisi a liaison officer? She's only been on the job for a few days, and she's already solved our team's fertilizer problem. And what about you? What can you do besides cause trouble for others?"

Captain Ma picked up the notebook on the table and said, "From now on, aside from matters concerning the commune, stop coming to the office to whine. Whoever contributes to the team, I will speak up for them."

Zhang Qiang's expression was dozens of times more unpleasant when he left the sixth team than when he arrived.
-
At night, Qi Yan was in great pain from his wound and was in a daze.

He seemed to feel someone feeding him water. The water was sweet, and after drinking it, the pain in his wound instantly subsided.

So much had happened during that time, and his tense nerves relaxed the moment he got home. He fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow, unable to tell if it was a dream or reality.

Hearing the door open, Little Gray, who was chasing moths in the yard, quickly ran into the room.

Qi Yan lowered his head, his gaze falling on the little one blocking his way.

"She's really good to you, she even gave you milk powder." Qi Yan squatted down and began to wipe away the white patch from Xiao Huihui's lips.

Little Grey stuck out its tongue and licked Qi Yan's palm.

Qi Yan was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and said, "You're just as likable as a dog."

He had never seen a wolf stick out its tongue to lick a person; it was so dog-like.
-
Qi Yan had just finished submitting her application at the institute and was almost home.

He saw Ji Sisi riding back on her bike, raised an eyebrow, and a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. "It seems that your life has been quite colorful without me?"

“I didn’t have time to tell you last night, but Sister-in-law Qiaomei helped me find a job in Huaihua Commune. This car was lent to me by our commune director.”

Ji Sisi got out of the car. She had wanted Qi Yan to give her a ride, but then she thought about the injury on his leg and decided against it.

Qi Yan is such a big person, she couldn't carry him, so she simply got out of the car and the two walked home side by side.

"The director has approved your trip to the city. Xiaolan can also come along if she's willing, to make it easier to take care of Shiming. Other comrades will be escorted back by others. We're scheduled to depart at 1 p.m."

Ji Sisi glanced at her watch; it was already 10:30.

"I'll go ask her now. Could you park the car for me? If I'm not back by noon, we'll meet at the cafeteria."

Qi Yan watched Ji Sisi's anxious figure. It felt like a lot had happened in the month he was gone. Didn't Sisi dislike Guo Xiaolan? Why was she so eager to find her now?

Ji Sisi knocked on Guo Xiaolan's door.

Guo Xiaolan rushed out of the house to open the door, her eyes swollen like walnuts. She was surprised to see Ji Sisi.

"How did you come?"

Seeing Guo Xiaolan's expression, it's not hard to guess that she already knows about Fang Shiming's injury.

"The institute will send a car to the city to pick up Fang Shiming this afternoon. Pack your things and we'll leave at one o'clock."

Guo Xiaolan looked blank for a moment, "Are you telling the truth?"

Ji Sisi nodded.

Guo Xiaolan was overjoyed and hurriedly turned around to go back inside to tidy up, forgetting to even close the front door.
