Chapter 46: Strange Dungeon
Compared to Greenwater, the dungeon in Winterhold is larger, but at first glance, it doesn't seem to be any different.

Everything here is made of stone bricks and sunlight cannot enter here.

However, what is puzzling is that most dungeons are illuminated directly with torches, and better ones may use kerosene lamps, but the dungeons in Winterhold are all different.

Crystal lamps, a lighting tool made of special minerals, emit warm and soft light and can simulate sunlight-like effects in a closed room. They are deeply loved by the nobles.

Dorothy felt that it was an overreaction to equip the dungeon of a military fortress with such lights.

But then she thought again, her knowledge of the Wasteland Territory was limited to the Inevitable Gathering Place and the Nativity, and she had only recently been to the area south of Winterhold. Maybe she was just ignorant.

But why the dungeon where the prisoners were held was so clean is really hard to understand.

Dorothy and Adela were guarded by soldiers one in front and one behind. Their attitude was not bad, but it could be said that it was completely different from how one should escort prisoners.

They didn't even put them in a cell.

At the end of the downward passage, there is a double wooden door. It goes without saying that the real dungeon is behind it.

However, the soldiers did not send the two men in. They just sent them to the door and let them go in by themselves, while they stood guard at the door.

It was a strange scene, and the two of them entered the dungeon half-believing and half-doubting.

The dungeon was well lit, and if it weren't for the fact that the floor tiles here were the same as outside, Dorothy would even think it was a hotel.

This dungeon was full of a sense of incongruity. Dorothy protected Adela behind her and walked forward cautiously to check the situation.

The design of the cell was confusing, as the side that should have been iron bars was actually entirely wooden, making it look like one room after another.

Every cell was like this. Dorothy couldn't understand why the cells were like this. Did Winterhold still care about the privacy of the prisoners?
Dorothy looked at a cell on her left. There was a very obvious single door on the wooden wall. Dorothy felt that she needed to take a closer look at the inside of the cell.

She reached out for the iron ring on the door, but before she could grab it, the creaking sound of the door opening made the two of them alert.

The door opposite the entrance gate should lead to other areas and has been opened.

The person who opened the door was a tall woman wearing a long dress and a coat of the same length. She looked very warm.

She simply tied her long hair behind her head and wore a pair of glasses on her high nose bridge. The first impression she gave was that she was intellectual and mature.

She was not surprised by the arrival of the two. Instead, she found the combination of a big and a small interesting, so she smiled slightly.

"You two don't need to be so vigilant. We have no ill intentions."

"Who are you."

"My name is Hetty, and I'm a doctor and teacher at Winterhold Fortress."

"doctor?"

"Doctors won't appear in the dungeons of military fortresses. I believe both demons and humans have this tradition." Adela's words suddenly became sharp. "Who are you? Don't say you are here to treat prisoners."

"Haha, the military fortress will not allow military doctors to treat prisoners unless they are important captives." Hetty was not afraid of the two men. Instead of being scared away, she went to meet them. "But you don't know Winterhold. At least in recent times, there have been no prisoners imprisoned in the dungeons under the Duke's Mansion."

"What do you mean?"

"Come out, little ones." Hetty clapped her hands gently, "You don't have to stay in the room anymore, come and meet new friends."

The doors of the cells on both sides suddenly opened, and soon people walked out one after another.

Judging from their appearance, they were not very old, and seemed to be about the same age as Dorothy. Without exception, they were all children of fourteen or fifteen years old, and some were even younger. They all lived in the dungeon.

Dorothy and Adela were now surrounded by these children. Their puzzled and even wary eyes were cast on them without any hesitation. This situation was chilling.

In Dorothy's memory, apart from the little Fallen who followed her in the four shallow areas, she had only seen so many Fallen of the same age in the base of the Nativity Society.

The most important thing is that the evil in his body seems to be restless, as if it is craving for something.

It has been a long time since I have had this feeling. During the time I stayed in the Nativity Society base, I had this feeling almost every day, and it would occasionally occur when I was in the Fourth Institute.

This was a "greeting" between the "evolved" evil spirits and their own kind. After being marked, Dorothy never felt this feeling again.

This means, then, that these peers are all “evolved” degenerates.

Is this the embryo shed of the Nativity Society? Why are there so many young Fallen?

Dorothy felt a little strange. Why would a military stronghold like Winterhold hide so many Fallen?

She looked at the woman in front of her again. She still had a warm smile on her face, which seemed a little scary compared to the scene at the moment.

"Hetty, stop it."

The eerie silence was broken by a tired voice. A hunched old man leaned out from behind the threshold and called out to Hetty.

He was wearing a thick mask that looked like it was used to isolate harmful gases, but the mouth of the mask emitted a faint white light, which reminded the two of them of the equipment that had been used in the four institutes to isolate pollution.

Holy Mask, a gas mask loaded with holy white stone, is mainly suitable for places with low pollution concentration.

"Okay, I'll be right there."

After Hetty took out an identical mask from her coat, she turned around and prepared to go through the door, but before leaving, she asked the two to follow her.

"Why should we listen to you?"

"Don't you want to know why your chief broke into Winterhold? He has many secrets to hide from you."

Dorothy and Adela looked at each other. They both trusted Wyatt, so they did not immediately hold the person responsible for his break-in to Winterhold accountable. At that time, they only wanted to ensure Wyatt's safety.

Indeed, why did Wyatt break into Winterhold without any warning.

And it seemed that they only had one choice left: to follow Hetty. If they did, they might be able to find out why the dungeon in Winterhold was so strange.

Dorothy and Adela did not exchange words; they both knew what the other was thinking, and so they remained on their guard, following Hetty through the door.

And just after the two of them left, the little fallen ones returned to their rooms one after another.

Only after the last person returned to the room did Hetty make way and welcome the two into the room deep in the dungeon.

This is an operating room, or so it looks.

On the operating table in the center of the room, there was a boy with a painful expression and buds and branches growing on his body, and he was tied up tightly.

Dorothy and Adela recognized the phenomenon; they had both experienced it to varying degrees.

"Here, put on the mask. The resurrection of evil spirits is very dangerous, as you all know."
