Chapter 390 Heading to Shenzhen, a Sweet Dream on the Car

When Yu Dawei got back to his car, the first thing he did was find the phone book in his crocodile skin bag. The third line from the top had Jiang Erdan's contact number written on it.

"Beep...beep...beep..." Without hesitation, Yu Dawei took out his phone and immediately dialed the number left in Jiang Erdan's letter.

Given what happened, he had no choice but to go to Shenzhen this time.

Fortunately, he wasn't completely unfamiliar with people. After years of working in Shenzhen, Erdan should have some connections.

"Hello?" Jiang Erdan's voice came from the phone.

"Brother Erdan, it's me, Yu Dawei."

----

A dozen minutes later, Yu Dawei turned off his phone and drove westward towards Luhe Town.

Section 9 is in the southwest corner. When he arrived, he saw Yao Jinfu get out of the car, open the door, and take out a grease gun.

"Brother? When did you get back?" Yao Jinfu heard the sound of a car approaching behind him, turned around, and found that it was Brother Dawei.

“Yesterday.” Yu Dawei took a case of mineral water from the trunk and threw it into Yao Jinfu’s driver’s seat.

Excavator operators work long hours, sometimes even late into the night, and water is essential. Yao Jinfu doesn't like to bring his own cup, so Yu Dawei always brings him a water bottle whenever he comes.

Although the axe can find water to drink when it's thirsty, mineral water is healthier than groundwater.

Afterwards, Yu Dawei inquired about the excavator. Axe said that the old machine's bucket and boom were a bit loose and needed a shim to be replaced, but otherwise there were no problems.

Yu Dawei agreed to Axe's request, saying that he would have Lao Ji bring the gasket over in a couple of days. He said it was easy to get rid of it; they could just use a sledgehammer to break off the steel between the bucket and the forearm, and then replace it with a new gasket.

Besides the excavator incident, Yu Dawei also told Fu Zi about his recent trip, including some information about parts from Fanfan's repair shop.

After all, he was a brother he knew well, so Yu Dawei had nothing to hide from Axe.

The two men, worried that chatting would interfere with their work, went straight into the excavator's cab. Yu Dawei gripped the door handle with both hands and stood with his feet on the door.

Yao Jinfu was driving and working while chatting with Yu Dawei, trying to do both without neglecting either task.

"Brother, actually I really want to go out and explore with you. Driving for a long time can get quite boring," Axe said with a smile.

"Don't worry, there will be opportunities. When our car maintenance team has more members, you can take charge of managing them, and you won't need to drive anymore." Yu Dawei had just finished explaining everything he needed to, and now he was preparing to leave.

"No, no, no, I'm not cut out to be a manager. I'll just stay by your side."

“No one is born a manager. Have confidence in yourself.” Yu Dawei patted him on the shoulder. “I’m not staying here anymore. The engine is so loud it’s making my ears go deaf. I’m leaving. You can close the door.”

Taking advantage of the moment when Yao Jinfu was grabbing soil and stones, Yu Dawei jumped off the excavator, then quickly ran back to the car, beeped twice at Yao Jinfu, and left.

Before leaving, Yu Dawei, not forgetting to be the leader in charge, gave the other party a small red envelope without buying anything.

The skill of giving red envelopes was something his second uncle taught him when he was working at his second uncle's project site.

In my second uncle's words, "Who has the time to choose gifts for all sorts of monsters and demons? Gifts are fine, but if not, just give money. Make sure to give a few small red envelopes to keep in your hand when you're not busy. Once you hand over the red envelopes, even those who block your way will have to be polite to you."

Although Yu Dawei felt that his second uncle's analogy was somewhat impractical, he had learned the lesson.

After dealing with the matters concerning Section 9, Yu Dawei drove straight to the Youcheng Expressway.

Fortunately, he only has three construction vehicles now; if he had five or six, it would be quite a burden.

Of the three vehicles, Yu Dawei was most at ease with the road roller in the oil city, simply because all the parts of the road roller, even during repairs, were imported, and the original parts were quite reassuring.

But the main reason Yu Dawei went again was because he was worried about the people operating the road roller.

Sun Shunli had never even touched a road roller before; he was a complete novice. Now, half a month has passed, and it's anyone's guess how well he's doing.

When Dawei arrived at the scene, it was almost lunchtime. When he got there, he saw people walking back from the scene one after another.

But when the off-road vehicle drove to the uneven section of the fourth section, the road roller in Yu Dawei's eyes was still working. It wasn't until the sun was setting that the people inside climbed out of the cab.

"Smoothly!" Yu Dawei got out of the car and waved to Sun Shunli.

"Brother-in-law? What happened?" Sun Shunli, a tall man of 188 cm, ran quickly towards Yu Dawei, his face showing some tension, while his mind raced. What had happened recently? The road roller had its oil and gear oil changed several times, and besides, it hadn't been working during the rainy season... Also, Manager Xu left, and a new manager came in, but he didn't seem to talk to him much.

Everything was fine, even unusually peaceful.

"What happened?" This question stumped Yu Dawei. He shook his head with a wry smile and patted the other man's arm. "Are you hoping something bad will happen to me all the time? Your question is giving me the creeps."

"No, brother-in-law, it's just that I've been traumatized by all the leaders calling me out recently, especially since you suddenly came to see me. I really don't know what to do." Sun Shunli looked innocent and gave a wry smile in return.

"Sigh, alright. I just got back from Kyoto and wanted to ask if there's anything you need me, your boss, to help you with lately." Yu Dawei sighed. "You're a kid from out of town now, unlike the other two drivers who work from home. If you have any difficulties, just let me know."

"Difficulties... no." Sun Shunli simply reported to Yu Dawei about all the major and minor events that had happened during this period.

The two drove and chatted all the way. When they arrived at the cafeteria, Sun Shunli recounted what had happened before and after Manager Xu went back, and that was the end of it.

"Old Xu's gone? That old rascal didn't even tell me." Yu Dawei held a steamed bun in his left hand, chewing as he looked at Sun Shunli. "Anything else? Do you have any other requests?"

“I have to go on a long trip in the next day or two. If all goes well, I’ll be back in ten days to two weeks. If not, the road roller will be up to you. If anything happens, answer the call from the project department here immediately, and then contact our factory’s maintenance personnel right away.” Yu Dawei had told Axe this last sentence once, and he told him this sentence again here.

"I understand. Don't worry, brother-in-law. I'll take care of things here."

Upon hearing this, Yu Dawei glanced at the steamed bun in his hand and instantly lost his appetite: "You, if you can talk, then talk more. Can you even drink alcohol?"

"Not bad, I could easily eat a pound more than usual." Sun Shunli didn't understand what Yu Dawei meant. "What's wrong?"

"I'm going to invite the project manager here to dinner later, you can come with me." Yu Dawei then picked up his phone and called Lao Chang to ask which of his top lieutenants had come to this wretched place.

A few minutes later, Yu Dawei learned the general situation of the other party, got up and took Sun Shunli to find the manager.

Eating was just to have something to eat before drinking, and Sun Shunli had worked all day, so he was most likely to get hungry in the afternoon. It would be good to eat something to fill his stomach first.

In the time that followed, Yu Dawei began to demonstrate the theories his second uncle had taught him about inviting people to dinner: how to build relationships, how to offer toasts, and how to help Sun make some quick and easy preparations.

It wasn't until late at night that Yu Dawei finally took the two of them home, and then drove to a random hotel in the city to stay overnight.

The next day, he went to his second uncle's project site, firstly to see his second uncle, and secondly to bring Xiao Hong back.

After a brief conversation with his second uncle, Yu Dawei rushed home, explained the situation to his family, packed his luggage, and on the third day, he had his grandfather drive him to the train station.

We changed trains in Kyoto and then headed straight for Shenzhen.

On the train, Yu Dawei gazed out the window at the scenery, listening to the deafening noise around him, feeling somewhat dejected. Since he started owning a car, it seemed he had less time to spend with his wife and children than in his previous life.

But once a choice has been made, there's no way to give up. Last night, Yu Dawei desperately apologized to his wife, and although she forgave him, he still saw a hint of disappointment in Han Jingfan's eyes.

"Now that this is all done, it's time to give myself a long vacation." Yu Dawei clearly understands what he really wants, and it's not just about money. He earns money so that he can spend it more comfortably and make the people he cares about happy.

Lost in thought, he drifted off to sleep in his seat.

He had a dream in which he didn't time travel at all, but instead lived in the repair shop on National Highway 312 in the oil city, where all four members of his family were well taken care of.

The old popsicle factory behind him hadn't been demolished yet. He had just finished paying off his debts, but he wasn't young anymore; he would be turning fifty in a few years.

The eldest son, Yu Muyu, had just finished the college entrance examination. He was very obedient to advice, and his aunt told him to apply to medical school so that even if he didn't have a job in the future, he could still sell medicine with her.

The child performed exceptionally well in the college entrance examination and was admitted to a medical university in Kyoto with a score of over 590. Although it's not a prestigious 211 or 985 university, Yu Dawei was extremely pleased.

Later, when her children had children of their own, she was no longer adrift and homeless. After two or three decades, she finally had her own house in the oil city.

He never went back to Hohhot to do business; he simply ran his small repair shop quietly until he grew old.

"Boxed lunches, boxed lunches! Anyone who wants a boxed lunch, speak up! Once you're gone, they're gone!"

Suddenly, the sound of a small cart reached his ears, startling Yu Dawei awake from his sweet dream.

A cacophony of sounds flooded back into my ears.

In a daze, he felt that everything around him was unreal.
