Chapter 540, page 2.1-54: The Crown: The Treasure of a Lost Dynasty
Noyce tightened her grip on Mu Yegui's wrist slightly, but showed no intention of letting go.
Mu Yegui glanced at the hand and could feel that Noyce's palm was sweating and that her whole body was stiff and unable to move.
It was a deep-seated fear that made your muscles stiff.
"Take a deep breath," Mu Yegui said softly. "While it won't reduce your fear, it will at least relax your muscles."
Noyce took a deep breath and then realized she could move again.
"Let her go!" Wang said coldly.
Noyce took a step back, his dark purple eyes fixed on the king. He said firmly, "I'm sorry, Your Majesty, I can't do it. The people of Pounís are waiting for you to save them, but you don't care at all. I can't let these thousands of living lives die meaninglessly when they can be saved."
"They're just some unnecessary ants, what's the point of saving them?" Wang sneered sarcastically.
“You’re wrong, and I’m wrong too. Maybe I shouldn’t have gotten involved in the first place…” Noyce murmured, lowering her eyes. Then she raised her eyes and said firmly, “This is the last time I will call you King, the last time I will respect you. King, from now on, Noyce is no longer your subject, no longer your servant. I am just myself.”
"Noyce, are you going to betray me?" The king asked dangerously, his golden vertical pupils narrowing slightly.
He raised his hand, and a faint golden light could be seen flashing across his palm.
Mu Yegui glanced at the king's right hand, then looked again at Noyce's resolute expression beside her. She still didn't speak, as if she didn't exist at all.
“Yes, I will betray.” Noyce nodded, one hand on her chest, feeling her beating heart, and admitted without hesitation, “I will betray the inactive king, betray this crumbling dynasty, betray… my own former self.”
He had once sworn to put this dynasty back on the right track, but now, at this moment, he betrayed that vow and his former self. Yet, he felt no regret, for he believed that a dynasty with a king who had no people in his heart had no future and was destined to disappear into history.
Bertias had just returned from outside the city when he heard Noyce say these words, and couldn't help but whistle in admiration. To be honest, Noyce really had guts, and she said it so openly.
In some ways, he seemed to admire him quite a bit. He was a real man; most people wouldn't dare to be so head-on, especially against the rumoredly tyrannical king.
Wang raised his hand, and energy gathered in the air, forming a golden spear. With a casual swing, the golden spear shot towards Noyce with the force of tearing through the air, its target being his heart.
Noyce drew the longsword from his back, raised his hand to block the golden spear formed from pure energy, gritted his teeth, felt the terrifying force, and suddenly slammed it away, sending it flying into a nearby building and smashing it to pieces.
"I underestimated you." The king snorted coldly, and then a dozen spears exactly the same as before appeared beside him, their tips pointing at Noyce, ready to be fired, just waiting for the king to wave his hand and shoot Noyce through completely.
Noyce's face was slightly pale, but even so, she still stood in front of Mu Yegui to protect her.
Seeing this, Mu Yegui reached out and patted Noyce on the shoulder to signal him to relax. She took a few steps forward and stood in front of Noyce, looked up at the king standing in the air, and asked softly, "Now I don't think there's anything wrong with what Lanlos did."
It was a completely nonsensical statement, and only Mu Yegui knew what she was talking about. She was referring to Isa, the future version of himself who had died but was awakened and desecrated by Lanlos in another way. Based on his current actions, she genuinely felt that Lanlos was completely right.
Issa doesn't deserve sympathy, nor does he deserve pure emotions. Moreover, given Issa's character, he's utterly unrepentant; the amnesiac version of him she'll meet in the future will be far better than the current one.
"Jiafa'er!" Mu Yegui shouted suddenly as he watched the dozen or so spears move.
Wang Wei was stunned for a moment, and it was this moment of distraction that caused the attack trajectory to deviate, allowing Mu Yegui to easily dodge it while pulling Noyce along.
His expression gradually darkened, and his playful mood vanished, replaced by utter seriousness. If he had previously maintained an indifferent attitude, now he truly intended to kill Noyce.
Suddenly, a clear but slightly uncomfortable voice rang out, "Cough cough cough! Can you please stop carrying me? I feel so awful, I'm about to throw up!"
Jafar, carrying Daolin on his back, ran up to Mu Yegui and said, "Master, Her Highness the Princess has been rescued. Shouldn't we be making our escape soon?"
Noyce stared blankly at Jafar, who had suddenly run out, and Daolin, whose face was deathly pale, being carried on his shoulder. An indescribable emotion welled up inside him, and he felt a slight sting in his nose. He subconsciously rubbed his nose, trying to distract himself.
"I'm not a princess, okay... um..." Dao Lin said a few words, then suddenly covered his mouth. He felt so uncomfortable! But he didn't have a choice right now, so he could only silently endure it.
"If you dare to vomit, I'll throw you down right now," Jafar said dangerously, his face dark.
“Um…” Bertias slowly walked out, raised her hand towards the king, and said, “Since everyone is leaving, then it’s about time I went too.”
"None of you are leaving here today." Wang flicked his sleeves, and behind him appeared a dense array of golden spears, showing a determination to kill them all.
Jafar casually tossed the Daolin he was carrying on his shoulder to Noyce, then summoned a silver spear to block the way in front of them, and said softly, "You guys run first, I'll cover you."
Noyce hesitated, but Mu Yegui grabbed his wrist and said firmly, "Let's go, Jafar can handle it."
"As expected of my master." Jafar said with a light laugh as he listened to Mu Yegui's words.
Because of the attitude of both master and servant, Noyce said nothing more. He simply used the back of his knife to knock out the soldiers who surrounded him, and then carried Daolin, Mu Yegui, and Bertias towards the west gate.
A deafening roar came from behind them; they could feel the earth shaking and the terrifying aftershocks. But reality gave them no chance to look back; they could only keep running forward.
