Chapter 336, Section 1.22: Trap
A cold wind blew by, carrying bits of dry leaves.

Bertias maintained the motion of tossing the card, her beautiful blue-gray eyes warily watching the two people not far away.

One of them was squatting on the ground, trembling with his hands covering his head, shouting something incessantly, while the other was extremely calm, even expressionless.

That's a bit awkward...

Suddenly, he turned his gaze to the seemingly frail little girl, and with a hint of excitement in his expression, he exclaimed, "Do you remember me?!"

Mu Yegui blinked her silver eyes and replied calmly, "You've mistaken me for someone else."

Bertias paused for a moment, then looked into those unfamiliar silver eyes and suddenly calmed down.

like……

It was definitely a case of mistaken identity.

He remembered that the person had dark gold vertical pupils, while this girl had silver round pupils, and their temperaments were completely different.

"Do you have a twin brother?" Bertias smiled awkwardly and asked again.

"No," Mu Yegui said coldly.

"I see..." Bertias shut his mouth, seemingly a little rude. He obediently pushed aside and remained completely silent about what had just happened.

"Is your uniform from the Strategist Association?" Mu Yegui glanced at the half of the uniform peeking out from under the gray cloak and asked.

“Yes, I’m a player from the Conquerors’ Guild.” Beltias nodded, not feeling there was anything wrong with admitting it.

"As expected, the players in the Strategist Association are all brutal, rule-breaking, and indiscriminate killers!" Lan Xiao started sobbing as she spoke, looking quite pitiful.

Bertias's lips twitched slightly; he had never heard of such a rumor before.

“I’ve only been here for a little over a week…” Bertias said softly.

Although the Conquerors' Association is a mixed bag, with all sorts of people, I've never seen anyone attack someone in public; at most, they scheme against people behind their backs.

He was merely defending himself and resolving two major problems, but he didn't expect to be seen by others, even though no one else would come here except for the designated player who received the card.

Hmm? The designated player who received the card?
A pair of beautiful blue-gray eyes suddenly turned to the two of them, and she asked, "Did you receive the cards too?"

"What do you want to do? Are you going to kill me and steal my card?" Lan Xiao sobbed, clutching her pocket, her eyes filled with tears as she pitifully spoke.

Although he showed strong aversion to Bertias, Lan Xiao's words and actions were not convincing.

Bertias paused for a moment, then replied, "I didn't..."

"So that's what you want to do?" Lan Xiao glared at him angrily, grabbing Mu Yegui's skirt with both hands.

Mu Yegui glanced at Lan Xiao, who was clutching her skirt and trembling with panic, and then at Beltias, who looked somewhat helpless.

For some reason, I felt that Lan Xiao was indeed more assertive than Beltias. As long as I ignored Lan Xiao's trembling body, there was no sense of incongruity.

"I didn't mean to steal your things..." Bertias said weakly.

It really was just a misunderstanding. He didn't expect to encounter another player who was also a designated player, and who happened to witness the scene. He originally intended to destroy the evidence, but unfortunately, he didn't have the chance.

"I was just defending myself. They wanted to take my things, so I had no choice but to fight back," Bertias said hesitantly. "R-really?" Lan Xiao looked at Bertias cautiously and asked softly.

“Hmm,” Bertias nodded.

"You didn't want to kill me? Or steal my card?" Lan Xiao asked again.

"No, no, I have my own card," Bertias quickly waved his hand, waving the card in his hand.

"That's good..." Lan Xiao breathed a sigh of relief and slowly stood up, but she still moved her body slightly behind Mu Yegui without making a sound, trying to hide behind her.

Mu Yegui: "..."

“There should still be three players who haven’t arrived yet,” Beltias said, glancing at the city walls.

"How did you know?" Lan Xiao asked weakly, crouching down and peeking out from behind Mu Yegui.

“Look, there are six grooves here, exactly the size of a card, indicating that a card must be inserted to open the door,” Bertias said, pointing to the grooves on the door.

Mu Yegui slowly walked to the door and carefully observed the six rectangular grooves.

It is indeed the exact size of the card, but since she threw the card away, she doesn't know if she can open the door smoothly.

"That doesn't make sense. If the card has to be embedded, then why specify a name?" Lan Xiao asked, puzzled.

If a card must be embedded, then even if someone else steals the card, they can still enter the instance by embedding it, instead of requiring the original user to do so. After all, embedding a card means the card is a key, and as long as you possess the key, it doesn't matter whether you are the one who opens it or not.

“Indeed, that’s a point of contention. But if it’s not embedded in a card, then what’s the point of it existing?” Bertias looked at Lan Xiao in surprise, seemingly not expecting this timid woman to be so clever; he thought she would only shout and scream.

“What if it’s a trap?” Lan Xiao asked suddenly, looking quietly at the six grooves.

"What?" Something seemed to flash through Bertias's mind for a moment, but he couldn't quite grasp it.

"It's a trap for non-designated players, since the size is just right to fit a card. They steal the designated player's card and insert it, thinking the card is the key to open it..." The emerald eyes stared at the six slots as he spoke slowly.

This means that inserting the card is a wrong act and will definitely lead to a terrible trap.

Bertias looked at Lan Xiao with a complicated expression. She had thought he was just a pretty face, but he turned out to be quite clever. It seemed that he was indeed the designated player.

"But if embedding the card is a trap, then how do we properly open the dungeon?" Mu Yegui casually remarked.

"Perhaps we'll only find out when everyone arrives that there are three more players. I just don't know if this is a cooperative dungeon or a solo dungeon..." Beltias's lips curled slightly. He quite liked solo dungeons; they were easier to fight without anyone getting in his way.

“It’s a cooperative dungeon.” Lan Xiao slowly said, showing the back of his card to Beltias.

Bertias paused for a moment, then turned his card over.

The lady ate her share, as well as the portions meant for her servants.

I didn't see this sentence before, when did it appear?

“It seems we need the contents of the other cards to know the whole story. What about yours?” Bertias asked, looking at Mu Yegui.
