Chapter 74 The Girl Selling Stars
Chapter 74 The Girl Selling Stars
Driving through the wealthy area of Marietta, the black BMW 7 was not at all conspicuous. Martin saw the activity center ahead and found an empty space to park on the side of the road.
Lily was packing her things in the passenger seat.
Martin asked, "Can you handle it?"
Lily nodded vigorously, and this time she didn't say anything nonsense: "I specially selected the client for the first business."
She pulled out a photo, placed it on the dashboard, pointed at the black boy in the photo and said, "His name is Cam. He went to the same public middle school as me. His parents died of drug addiction a year ago, so a wealthy white family adopted him and helped him transfer to a private middle school."
Martin couldn't help but say: "This kid is lucky."
Lily revealed the truth behind it: "Because he has outstanding football talent, maybe in a few years, he will enter the NFL."
"Don't use the words I taught you mechanically. Use them flexibly." Martin glanced at the black skin in the photo and warned, "Don't say racist words."
Lily nodded: "My brain hasn't shrunk."
Martin said, "Go ahead. I'll cover you here. I'll be there anytime if there's any problem."
Lily picked up her handbag and came to the activity center. Standing under the shade of a tree, she made a phone call. A big boy with not too dark skin quickly ran out.
Cam asked, "Lily, why did you come to me suddenly? Is there something wrong?"
"You helped me before you transferred to another school, so I'm asking you to repay me." Lily said, "I know you haven't given up on Emily from the cheerleading team. Her birthday is in a week, and I heard she's going to have a backyard party to celebrate."
Cam scratched his head. “I’m worried about her birthday present.”
Lily continued his words: "So, let me help you." She took out the things she had prepared and placed them on the back of a nearby car: "Look at these."
Cam found that they were several beautifully packaged gift boxes.
"I don't like to owe favors to others, so I'd better pay them back as soon as possible." Lily opened the greeting card-like package, which contained a beautiful star map. One of the stars was printed particularly brightly: "This is a star in the Andromeda M31 galaxy."
Seeing Cam's confused face, Lily decided to be straightforward: "The Atlantic Astronomical Association sells the naming rights of this star. It can be named after a person or anything else. Emily is a member of the school's astronomy club. If you give her a star, you will gain love..."
Someone passed by. Lily coughed lightly and showed Cam her certificate, ID and the Atlantic Astronomical Society's documents. "This is the Atlantic Astronomical Society, one of the largest astronomical organizations in the United States! Cam, think about it carefully. What can you give her that is more stylish and classy than a star? A diamond? It's older than a star?"
Cam was moved, and a star in the sky was named after Emily, which absolutely touched Emily.
Lily continued to add: "I am a volunteer at the Atlantic Astronomical Association this summer. When I came across this great opportunity, I thought of you first. If you don't want it, I will give it to Emily myself."
"I want it, I want it!" Cam was very conscious: "How much?"
Lily said, "Just give me $200, and I'll keep an eye on the association and ask them to mail the certificate and star map to you as soon as possible."
Cam's adoptive parents treated him well, but after searching their pockets, they only had a few dozen dollars. He said, "Wait a moment, don't leave, wait for me to come back."
Lily nodded: "Go ahead."
Cam ran back to the activity center and borrowed some money temporarily.
Lily took the money, wrote down the mailbox of Cam's adoptive parents' house, left and got into the BMW.
Martin asked, "Is it done?"
Lily took out some money from her pocket and slammed it in her hand: "200 dollars."
Martin said casually, "You're asking a high price."
I remember that a guy only spent more than 100 RMB to buy it.
"Hey, get this straight!" Lily stressed, "What we sold him was a star! A star!"
Martin asked, "Next target?"
Lily flipped open the book and glanced at it. "Go to the Margaret Memorial Museum. The administrator's son used to take lessons from Harris. He is an astronomy enthusiast. I guess he would be willing to pay for the right to name a star."
She continued to flip through the pages: "The other one is the daughter of a Methodist member. Elena used to be a volunteer at the Methodist Church, and I've heard her talk about it many times..."
Martin understood: "You have used up all the resources you have accumulated before."
Lily smiled: "No need to waste more."
In the afternoon, Andrew called Martin. Martin happened to be in West City, so he went to the Freedom Club to get the social investigator materials from him.
Martin said to Lily who was following him, "Don't swear, don't make a scene all the time."
Lily replied, "Okay." Martin was still worried: "You'd better not talk."
When we arrived at the social investigator's office, only Andrew was there.
Andrew handed Martin a set of materials and suddenly became mysterious, lowering his voice: "I prepared a gift for Kelly's assistant Ella."
As he spoke, he pulled out a handbag with the Atlantic Astronomical Association printed on it, and took out beautifully packaged star maps, glass stars, certificates, documents and other items from it: "I have always wanted to give Ella a gift, but ordinary things are too vulgar, so I bought her a star, named after Ella."
Martin would not make a mistake; the thing in his hand was exactly the same as what Lily had left in the car.
Lily opened her mouth, and Martin saw clearly: Harris.
Andrew was quite pleased with himself: "Isn't this a good idea? Professional certification from the Atlantic Astronomical Association!"
What can Martin say but to admire: "It's high-end and classy."
After leaving, Lily made another deal. Martin looked at the time and took her back to Clayton.
As the sun was setting, Martin drove past the north side of the community and found Scott standing on the side of the road.
Scott saw Martin and Lily through the open window and waved at him.
"I don't want to talk to him," Lily said.
Martin parked his car on the other side of the road, walked over, and asked, "What's the matter?"
Scott spat out the cigarette butt and crushed it with his foot: "A few weeks ago, you said Harris applied to college?"
Martin nodded: "He received an offer from Georgia State University."
Scott didn't continue the topic. He tilted his head to look at Lily in the car and warned her, "Be more restrained, kid..."
"Shut up." Martin pointed to his chest and said, "I am a man of principles and bottom line."
There was no need to say more since the conversation was not going well, so Martin went back to the car.
Scott raised his middle finger in his direction.
Martin also responded with the middle finger.
The car turned from the intersection, Martin glanced back and saw a black business car parked next to Scott, who lowered his head and got into the car.
…………
At night, in an apartment in Midtown, Sofia wore a vest and shorts, revealing her muscular body.
Across from him, Scott twisted his body, constantly taking off his clothes and throwing them away.
Compared to the sturdy Sophia, his thin and charming body is like a willow in the wind.
When Scott was left with only a pair of shorts, Sofia hooked her finger and Scott swayed closer.
Sofia rolled up a dozen twenty-dollar bills and stuffed them into Scott's shorts.
"You old rabbit, you should go to the Beast House and learn how to dance!" Sophia wiped her mouth and said, "Where's the wine you poured? Bring it to me."
Scott handed the wine to Sofia, who drank as heartily as she looked, and drank it in one gulp.
Sophia hooked her finger: "Follow me!"
Scott had a flattering smile on his face: "I learned a new trick, I want to earn more tips."
Sophia became interested and sat quietly: "Let me see."
Who is Scott? He just lay on the ground, opened his mouth and shouted: "Woof! Woof..."
Sophia took out a dozen more $20 bills and threw them on the ground: "You can only take them with your mouth!"
One of them acted ugly and the other threw money, and they both had a lot of fun.
Scott kept picking up dollar bills amid the barking of dogs.
