The Hogwarts Emerald
Chapter 76: The Frustrated Potions Class
Chapter 76: The Frustrated Potions Class
Snape's words did not make the students sitting below feel uncomfortable at all. This was already a sign of mercy from the Headmaster of Slytherin, as he had said more vicious words before.
When it comes to the mastery and application of the English language, all the people in Hogwarts put together are not as good as Snape, whose words are as sharp as a knife. Students who want to strangle Snape can line up from the school castle to Hogsmeade.
Since Snape was lenient with his words today and didn't criticize him harshly, the students wouldn't seek to make themselves miserable. Why would they invite themselves to be scolded?
Snape tapped the blackboard with his wand, and lines of words began to appear on the blank blackboard. This was what they were going to learn today, a potion used to kill insects. If someone accidentally drank it, it could be fatal.
The students lined up to get materials from the cabinet. The three columns were orderly and no one cut in line or laughed in the line.
Ada placed her crucible on the shelf and added the first raw material into it. She lit the fire with her magic wand and began to heat the crucible. Then she turned to process the remaining materials and arranged them in the order in which they were added.
After the crucible had been heated for a while, the liquid in the pot began to turn red, like a red oil hot pot, and Ada began to add subsequent materials to the crucible.
After the students started making potions, the originally quiet classroom became noisy. The sounds of moving crucibles, lighting fires, and cutting with knives could be heard throughout the classroom.
It was fine at first, but as time went on, more and more things needed to be added, and finally there was chaos in the classroom. Kenneth Toller from Gryffindor burned the crucible leaking, and the potion in the crucible flowed through the hole onto the table, and from the table to the ground.
Then the Hufflepuff students also made a mistake. One girl's potion was constantly spewing out of the crucible, as if a volcano had erupted.
Cedric Diggory was right next to the girl, and he quickly stepped forward to help her deal with the terrible situation.
The scene was in chaos. The two pots of unfinished potions gave off a terrible smell, as if the lid of a jar of rotten eggs had been opened. The whole classroom was filled with the stench, making it hard to breathe.
Ada had to cover her mouth and nose with one hand and continue operating with the other. Fortunately, she was focused enough and did not make the situation in the classroom worse.
Fred and George beside them had no intention of coming over to help. They were still watching the show. They didn't like Toller and they almost got into a fight several times. It was also rare to see Snape look so unhappy.
Snape cleaned up all the potions on the ground and disappeared the remaining potions in the Gryffindor girl's cauldron. Although these smelly potions disappeared, the smell in the dungeon still did not dissipate.
The Hufflepuff girl was not scolded, but the sprayed potion burned her, and she was sent directly to the school infirmary by her friends. Kenneth Toller was not so lucky, he had to clean the classroom after class.
Because of an accident in class, only a few people were able to complete the potion and hand it in. Looking at the pitiful number of glass bottles, Snape's face was stinker than the air in the classroom.
After the get out of class, the students rushed out of the classroom in a swarm. They really couldn't stand the smell in the classroom. Even after leaving the classroom, the smell still lingered on everyone, and everyone smelled as stinky as an exploded dung ball.
There were three people left in the classroom. In addition to Toler who was left to clean the classroom, Ada was also left behind.
Ada stood there covering her mouth and nose, her eyebrows wrinkled into a "川" shape. She would rather face Hagrid's big pet than stay in the dungeon for another minute.
"Put your hand down, Drizzt, this is very rude." Snape said as he stood in front of Ada, his expression looking much better.
Ada quickly put her hand down. Her behavior was indeed impolite, but the "fatal" smell in the classroom made her forget it for a moment.
"Your stupid classmate Kenneth Toller's cauldron had problems," Snape looked at Toller with disgust, and then continued, "but you didn't lend a helping hand, so Gryffindor will deduct one point..."
No matter how bad the air in the classroom was, it couldn't stop Ada from opening her eyes wide. Even if the bull terrier saw it with his own eyes, he couldn't believe that there were such big eyes in the world.
Snape narrowed his eyes and took a step back. He said, "I hope you can remember this lesson." It's easy to find a pretext to accuse someone of a crime. This was the only thought in Ada's mind. She had already lost points after only three days of school. Professor McGonagall, who was determined to compete for the college cup, would definitely kill her!
The only lucky thing was that Snape showed mercy and only deducted one point. If he had deducted ten or eight points at the beginning, Ada would not have had to do anything else for this month and would have just raised her hand like crazy to answer questions in class!
"In addition, at seven o'clock tonight, in this classroom, you need to be detained to wake up." Snape said, "Not eight o'clock, not half past eight, but seven o'clock tonight. Can your empty brain like Toller's crucible remember it?"
"Tonight at seven o'clock, in this dungeon, I need to be detained here to sober up." Ada repeated, her eyes fixed on Snape, expressing silent protest with her big eyes.
Snape waved his hand and said, "Now, you can leave with Mr. Toller."
Hearing this, Kenneth Toler ran out of the classroom without hesitation. He wanted to get rid of the smell on his body as soon as possible. However, as soon as he left the classroom, he was stopped by the twins who were waiting at the door.
"Where's Ada?" Fred asked, pulling Toler.
"Inside, she was deducted points by Snape for not helping me clean up my things," Toller said, "and was also given detention."
"Point deduction plus confinement?" George wondered if he had heard it wrong. What did this have to do with Ada? Many people did not help Toller at that time. It was obvious that Snape was looking for trouble.
Kenneth Toller, who was stopped, looked unhappy. He messed up the Potions class today and was stopped by the twins after class. He was very angry now.
"Yes, you heard it right, that Drizzt has been deducted points again! She always deducts points from Gryffindor, the troublemaker from the orphanage! And you, all three of you are troublemakers!"
The twins also got angry after hearing this. They grabbed Toler and were ready to beat him. Last year Toler had said bad things about Ada and they hadn't settled the score with him yet!
Kenneth Toller looked at the twins provocatively. He was now eager for the twins to take action. If the twins dared to hit him, he would immediately go to Professor McGonagall.
"Gentlemen, what are you going to do?" Snape walked out of the classroom door, and Ada followed behind him. Snape and Ada in the classroom heard Toller's words clearly.
"You can continue. I won't stop you. I will deduct points after you are done."
Ada walked over and separated the three people. Snape stood aside. It was better for the twins to do nothing now and talk about anything later.
The twins, having calmed down, no longer planned to continue the attack, but they still pulled Ada behind them and blocked her tightly.
Ada said, "Let's go. I hope Angelina and Alia have saved a spot for me in the bathroom."
After saying that, Ada pushed aside the twins who were blocking her way and walked towards the stairs. When she walked to Toler, she bumped him hard with her shoulder.
The twins followed Ada and followed suit. When they passed by Toler, they also bumped him with their shoulders. Fred and George's two consecutive bumps made Toler stagger.
Kenneth Toller turned around and looked at the three people's backs viciously. When the three people disappeared around the corner, he spat fiercely on the ground and cursed in a low voice: "The stinky mudbloods from the orphanage, and the two damn ones..."
"Mr. Toller! Because you insulted your classmates and soiled the castle, Gryffindor will deduct twenty points!"
