Chapter 133: A Day at St. Mungo's
Chapter 133 A Day at St. Mungo's
Professor McGonagall did not leave with Dumbledore, but stayed to take care of Ada. She was still worried about those Aurors who had ulterior motives. Professor McGonagall was worried that if she was not there, Ada would conflict with them and be caught.
But Professor McGonagall was worrying too much. The Aurors never came from beginning to end, and Ada fell asleep early under the effect of the sedative.
The main effect of sedatives is to soothe nerves, and can calm people who are frightened, traumatized or mentally broken. The therapist believes that Ada has just experienced something terrible today, and may have symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, and nightmares. In order to relieve Ada's tense nerves, the therapist asked Ada to take sedatives before going to bed.
Although the bed was not comfortable at all, with the help of the sedative and Professor McGonagall, Ada still had a good sleep. There was no mumbling that the therapist was worried about, and no nightmares. She slept until dawn.
It was past eight o'clock on Sunday morning. Ada would have been sitting in the auditorium at this time in the past. But today, she had just woken up after a dreamless night. Ada stretched out on the bed with her eyes closed. When she opened her eyes, she saw Professor McGonagall sitting in front of her bed. The sunlight outside the window was gentle. It was another beautiful day.
Professor McGonagall was reading today's Daily Prophet, which also reported the wizard battle that took place in Little Whinging yesterday. Apart from the names of several dead, the newspaper did not disclose more details, and naturally did not mention Ada's name.
She could have been on the Daily Prophet twice, but both times she missed the chance. I don't know whether Ada is destined to be on the Daily Prophet or not. Perhaps "destined but not destined" is a more appropriate description!
The two of them had a simple breakfast. Ada still didn't like to eat dry bread for breakfast. She wanted to drink porridge and wanted to go back to Hogwarts. Ada didn't tell Professor McGonagall that she wanted to drink porridge. She was afraid that Professor McGonagall would say to her: Why drink porridge? I think you look like porridge.
Not long after Ada swallowed the last bite of bread, someone from the Ministry of Magic came to question Ada. This time it was not Hart (Dumbledore said that Hart had been punished), but two wizards, a man and a woman, whom Ada had never seen before.
The witch's name was Amelia Bones. She had a broad figure, a square chin, neat short grey hair, and wore a pair of monocles. She and Professor McGonagall should know each other. The two strong women even chatted about some private matters, probably related to a person named Susan.
The wizard did not introduce himself. He was a very tall (Ada was very envious), bald (there were national conditions), black-skinned wizard with a golden earring on one ear, which made him very memorable. His voice was deep and slow, but it had a magical power to calm people, and he looked like someone who was easy to get along with.
Amelia Bones was obviously the more interested of the two, but she just asked some very basic questions casually, understood the situation at the time, and then ended her questioning of Ada. Yes, it ended so hastily.
The whole process took only half an hour, and the two people seemed to be just going through the motions. Ada even suspected that Ms. Bones didn't care at all about what she said.
All in all, what happened in Little Whinging ended successfully. Ada no longer had to go to Azkaban for further studies. She could return to Hogwarts to continue her studies at any time if Professor McGonagall agreed to let her go back.
After the ridiculously short interrogation, Ada went to get checked and have her dressings changed under the guidance of the healer, while Professor McGonagall went to see Amelia Bones and the charismatic wizard off from St. Mungo's.
Ada came out of the treatment room with new bandages and saw Professor McGonagall who had just returned from sending someone away. She was chatting with a witch who looked a little scary in front of a ward.
The witch looked very old. She was wearing a green robe, carrying a big red handbag, and her pointed hat was decorated with a stuffed vulture. Ada really couldn't agree with this aesthetic.
"Come here, Ada." Professor McGonagall waved to Ada, "Ada, this is Mrs. Augusta Longbottom."
"Hello, Mrs. Longbottom. I'm Esmeralda Drizzt, a student of Professor McGonagall." Ada took the initiative to introduce herself to Mrs. Longbottom. "I always hear Professor McGonagall mention you."
"I don't think she has anything good to say, does she?" Mrs. Longbottom extended her hand noble and shook hands with Ada. "It's not common for Minerva to favor one student so much. It seems that she really likes you." "I'm just here to watch her. Don't let her make any more trouble when I'm not paying attention." Professor McGonagall said, "If she can make me worry less, I will thank Merlin."
"Neville, we should go." Mrs. Longbottom said to the ward. After a while, a boy with a small round face came out of the ward. He stood beside Mrs. Longbottom, lowered his head, and stared at his toes.
"Neville will go to Hogwarts soon. He is a good boy." Mrs. Longbottom looked at Neville sternly, "But Neville doesn't have his father's talent. Frank and Alice are both very talented wizards."
"He is still young. In the future, Mr. Longbottom will definitely become a respected wizard like Frank," Professor McGonagall comforted.
Mrs. Longbottom sighed and said, "I hope so. The Longbottom family's reputation still needs Neville to revive... Well, we should go now."
Mrs. Longbottom put on long green gloves that matched her robes, and she took Neville Longbottom's hand and left the fifth floor. When the two of them left, Ada also heard Professor McGonagall sigh, and she asked, "Professor, what's wrong?"
"Frank and Alice, Neville's parents, are Aurors and are very respected in the wizarding world." Professor McGonagall said, "Just after the fall of You-Know-Who, the two of them were tortured and driven crazy by the Death Eaters."
It is tragic to fall on the eve of victory, but what is even more tragic is to fall on the very night of victory. This is what happened to Frank and Alice. They are respectable heroes, but now they can only live like this, a life more painful than death.
If Ada were given the choice, she would rather die than live like this, which requires more courage than facing death.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Weasley rushed into the ward, skipping Professor McGonagall and standing in front of Ada. She turned Ada over and over, examining her in exactly the same way Professor McGonagall had done yesterday, as if she had been taught by a master.
Of course, Mrs. Weasley did not come alone, she had two little followers behind her. Perhaps because Professor McGonagall's aura was too strong, Ron and Ginny were like two little transparent people, sitting quietly in the corner of the bed and not daring to say a word.
"Ron will also go to Hogwarts in September. Maybe he will be a Gryffindor again." said Ada and Professor McGonagall.
Professor McGonagall looked at Ron's ancestral red hair and said, "Welcome to Hogwarts, child. I like your brothers very much, Bill, Charlie and Percy, they are all excellent Gryffindors."
After hearing this, Ada really wanted to ask Professor McGonagall: Professor, did you forget two people? You even mentioned Bill who graduated, but you didn't mention the two who are still in school?
"Fred and George are not bad either. It would be better if they could focus more on their studies." Seeing Ada's little look, Professor McGonagall added.
This Weasley couple are obviously very smart, but their heads are full of crazy ideas, which makes Professor McGonagall neither love nor hate them, and it gives her a headache.
Ada said silently in her heart: Fred, George, I really tried my best. If your grades were worse than last year, you would definitely be in trouble.
