Chapter 70: Diagon Alley in the New Year

On the last Wednesday of the holiday, the Grangers drove Ryan and their daughter to Diagon Alley for shopping. Ryan's mother had to go to work, and his father easily stood Ryan up because he had a brilliant idea to start a new book.

After Ryan arrived in this world, he found that although the general historical trend of this world was not much different from the world he was originally in, there were still changes in many small places. For example, many famous literary works in the world before became similar works by other authors in this world, and some had never appeared before.

It's just that Ryan couldn't remember the specific content of the books he had read before, and he didn't have time to be a copycat. So during family chats, Ryan told his father, Mr. Lambert, about some works that he remembered had never appeared in this world as his imagination.

Perhaps stimulated by these ideas and the fact that there is magic in this world, Mr. Lambert decided to change his style and write a magical epic. So Mr. Lambert, who was writing in seclusion, handed Ryan to the Grangers and asked them to take Ryan shopping.

In Ryan's opinion, Hermione's parents were standard cultured people, gentle and refined. In particular, Mr. Granger was actually a fan of Ryan's father's books, which gave them a lot of common topics to talk about during the journey.

When they arrived at Diagon Alley, Ryan and Hermione decided to go to Gringotts to exchange currency first. As soon as they stepped onto the white marble steps of Gringotts, they saw Hagrid and Harry walking towards them.

"Hey, Harry over here." Harry looked up and saw Ryan and Hermione standing on the white steps of Gringotts.
Ryan greeted as he and Hermione walked down the steps to greet Harry.

"Have you been camping? Why are you so dirty? Hagrid... Oh, it's good to see you both again... Are you going to Gringotts now, Harry?"

"I'll go after I find the Weasleys," Harry said.

"You won't have to look for it long," Hagrid said with a smile.

Soon the Weasleys showed up, with the twins and Ron expressing their envy of Harry's adventures in Knockturn Alley.

While the Weasleys were chatting with Harry, Ryan handed a small bag to Fred.

"What are you doing Ryan?" Ron asked after seeing their transaction.

"You know I went to Iceland during the summer vacation, and your brothers asked me to bring them some local specialties." Ryan replied.

As they walked up the steps of Gringotts together, Harry told Ryan that he met the Malfoys in the Dark Arts shop. Mr. Weasley, who was following behind, thought that he should catch evidence of the Malfoys doing Dark Magic. Then he argued with Mrs. Weasley, who advised him to put safety first.

Soon Mr. Weasley's attention was diverted, and he greeted the Grangers standing in the hall. It seemed that Mr. Weasley was indeed a kind man who was very enthusiastic about Muggles, but the Grangers were a little uncomfortable with this enthusiasm.

Then the two sides said goodbye temporarily. The Weasleys and Harry went to the underground vault to get money, while Ryan and Hermione exchanged currency in the hall.

"This year everyone's quota is 250 Galleons, because the textbook fees for Hogwarts have increased again this year." The goblin said to them a little impatiently. It is very likely that he has said this sentence many times this morning.

After Harry and his friends came out, everyone agreed to meet at Flourish and Blotts in an hour. After that, they had free time to go shopping. Ryan and his friends strolled along the cobblestone streets, browsing the dazzling array of goods on the street and eating a large piece of nut cream ice cream. They saw the Weasley twins and Lee Jordan buying a lot of fireworks. Then they were dragged by Hermione to buy parchment and ink.

As usual, Ryan was going to the thrift store to see if there were any useful old books. After seeing Ryan's 1893 edition of "One Hundred Common Magical Potions Making" last time, Hermione was also eager to try this kind of treasure hunting.

Unfortunately, Harry and Ron were not interested in this, so they parted ways with Ryan and the others to go shopping at the Quidditch boutique.

"Knowledge is so useful, but why do they think that barbaric sport of flying on a broomstick is more interesting?" Hermione said somewhat puzzled.

"You have to know that they all have this sport inherited from their family. Besides, only a small number of people enjoy reading." Ryan pushed open the shop door and turned to Hermione.

After entering the door, they found Percy Weasley concentrating on reading a very boring book: "How the Prefects Gained Power". Ryan looked at the page that was opened and wrote about the occupations that the prefects had after leaving school.

Seeing Ryan staring at his book curiously, Percy closed the book a little embarrassedly and greeted Ryan. In fact, Percy and Ryan had a good relationship with Hermione, especially when they organized group homework, Percy provided a lot of help.

"The content of this book is too simple." Ryan said with some disdain. But think about it, the magic world is so small, there is no need for sophisticated political tactics.

"I think this book is well written, why do you think its content is so simple?" Percy asked curiously. From his expression, it can be seen that he thinks Ryan doesn't understand at his age and is probably just talking nonsense.

"I recommend you to read the Zizhi Tongjian of the Celestial Empire. This is a book written by a prime minister of the Celestial Empire to the emperor more than a thousand years ago. The cases cited in it are much higher than those in this book. I remember someone translated this book into English."

Percy was indeed very interested. He even asked Ryan to write the title of the book in Chinese and said that he might go to Chinatown to look for the book.

After seeing off the agitated Percy, Ryan and Hermione began to look through the pile of old books. Most of the owners had simply scribbled on them, and one book might even have been soaked in some potion and gave off an unpleasant smell.

Maybe it was because beginners usually have good luck, and finally Hermione found a useful book, which was the Charms class notes of a Ravenclaw student. She thought that some of the knowledge in it was very useful.

When checking out, Hermione said to Ryan, "I always thought these second-hand books were provided to people with financial problems. They had no advantages other than being cheap. Thanks to you for telling me, I know there is valuable knowledge left by our predecessors in them."

Ryan smiled. Sometimes there are valuable things hidden in second-hand goods. This was his experience in buying second-hand goods on Xianyu in his previous life. For Hermione, a girl from a well-off family who never needed to buy second-hand goods for financial reasons, this was a very new theory. Especially when she dug out gold from a pile of garbage, the joy of harvest was definitely something she had never experienced before.

After paying the bill and leaving the house, Ryan took out his pocket watch and found that the agreed time was almost up, so he hurried to Flourish and Blotts with Hermione.
