Chapter 20 Transition and Discussion of the Three-Headed Dog
The next morning, Ryan yawned as he went to the auditorium to have breakfast. He didn't sleep well the night before because he was too excited.
However, although he was physically exhausted, Ryan was still very excited mentally, and even smiled occasionally while eating.
This behavior caused Hermione, who was eating next to him, to roll her eyes. "What on earth did you do this weekend? One moment you were distracted and inexplicably dazed, and the next moment you were grinning from time to time. Are you really okay?"
After Ryan repeatedly assured her that he was fine, Hermione let her go, and then they went to the library for morning self-study.
Life was back on track. Ryan was also quietly studying in class. He felt that before he could fully master the two new abilities he had learned, it was not suitable for him to travel to another world. After all, he could not chew too much. If he wanted to learn new powers, he had to master the powers he had already mastered.
In addition, he showed interest in magical plants in the herbal class on Wednesday. He was even willing to stay after class to help clean up, just to spend more time with those magical plants. After all, only by touching these plants can Ryan absorb Crazy Dave's knowledge in actual operation.
Professor Sprout was very happy to see Ryan's obvious love for these plants. After all, as a teacher, it was a great sense of accomplishment for them to have students genuinely like the courses they teach.
So Professor Sprout told Ryan that when he had any questions about these magical plants, he could just come to her office and ask questions.
So, in addition to improving his own abilities, Ryan found that he had gained a good reputation with the professor, which was an unexpected gain.
However, mechanical abilities are very difficult to practice, because there is an unreasonable repair spell in the wizarding world, so there is no place to practice it. Fortunately, that thing doesn’t have much use in the wizarding world, so you can practice it when you have the opportunity.
After finishing my homework in the evening, I found many people crowded around the fireplace in the common room. The Weasley twins seemed to be demonstrating some new gadget there.
Ryan was just about to stand up to see what was going on when the door to the common room opened and Hermione climbed in from outside.
After she came in, she looked around the lounge, then walked towards Ryan, apparently she had something to discuss with him.
Ryan sat back down in his seat, and soon Hermione sat opposite him, then looked around nervously. Most people in the lounge were attracted by the Weasley twins' new tricks, and no one noticed this corner.
Hermione put down her bag and pulled out a thick book.
The book looked old, and was covered in some kind of reptile skin. The title was written in faded gold: Rare and Fantastic Animals of Europe.
"Look I found this," Hermione said.
She opened the book and turned to one of the pages. There was a picture of a three-headed dog on it. It seemed that the original author had good painting skills. The three-headed dog was painted lifelike and kept changing poses, as if it were alive.
Ryan could tell at a glance that the three-headed dog in the picture looked almost exactly like the three-headed dog they had encountered in the room on the fourth floor that day. Below the picture was an introduction to the animal: The three-headed dog is a magical creature with the bloodline of a local creature. It is a relic of the mythological era. Because it has three heads, it has an innate advantage in terms of perception, resistance to fainting, panic, and coma.
This animal has powerful night vision and poisonous claws and teeth. It can cause irreparable damage to its opponents. Its multiple heads can take turns to rest, so it is difficult to sneak attack it. And its mythical blood makes it extremely resistant to both magic and physical attacks.
"Why are you showing me this?" Ryan asked. Then he seemed to think of something. "I swear I will never take risks like last time. After all, I can only be considered lucky to escape unscathed from encountering such a terrifying creature. I can't expect luck to always favor me. And I accidentally dragged you into it last time. I apologize to you again."
"It's a good thing that you have this idea, but this is not the meaning of the book I showed you. Take a look at this paragraph." Ryan followed the direction where Hermione pointed and found a row of small notes at the foot of the page he had just skipped: The three-headed dog can be tamed by a powerful master. Once tamed, it only obeys the master's orders and is the most suitable and loyal guard.
"That day in that room, we saw a trapdoor under the feet of the three-headed dog, which just proves that the three-headed dog is there to guard something. What do you think is it that would make the school take the risk of putting such a dangerous animal in the school?"
When did Hermione develop this curiosity? Didn't she start to pay attention to this issue after she became friends with Harry and Ron in the original text?
Ryan thought about Hermione's change, and then he figured it out: As a top student, Hermione must have a great curiosity about unknown things. Not to mention escaping from the mouth of such a big three-headed dog, it would be strange if she didn't become curious about the animal. If Ryan didn't already know the answer, he would definitely be looking for information related to the dog.
But in the original world, Hermione was not popular among the Gryffindors and couldn't find anyone to discuss with, so she could only think about it in her heart.
Hermione saw that Ryan seemed to be in a daze again, so she asked, "I don't believe you have no curiosity about the three-headed dog and the trapdoor. Tell me what you think of it?"
Although Ryan knew the secret under the trapdoor, he certainly couldn't tell it directly. (Otherwise he couldn't explain how he knew it)
After thinking for a while, Ryan said, "After reading the information you gave me today, the only thing I can be sure of is that the dog is guarding something, and that thing must be very important, otherwise they wouldn't use such an animal to guard the door."
"But." Ryan changed the subject: "What I find strange is that Hogwarts is just a school, not a vault. How can it be used to store treasures?"
"Wait, the vault, I think I thought of something." Hermione continued, "I have been subscribing to the Daily Prophet. I remember the newspaper saying that someone invaded Gringotts during the summer vacation, but a Gringotts spokesman said that the invaded vault was empty and everything inside had been taken out earlier that day. Do you think the things hidden in Hogwarts are the things that were taken away?"
What a great deduction, he could actually guess the truth. Ryan looked at Hermione in surprise, then found himself a little out of control. He coughed and said, "I think your guess makes sense, because the only safer place in the wizarding world than Gringotts is Hogwarts, where the great Dumbledore is. But those who dare to rob Gringotts may also dare to rob Hogwarts."
"Well, what should we do then?" Hermione said a little nervously.
Ryan waved his hand and said with a smile: "Don't worry, we have the greatest white wizard of this century as the headmaster. Even if something happens, it is not our turn as two first-year students to worry about it."
