Chapter 98 In the dark
Long, long ago, when nothing existed, there was already an invisible force in the darkness. This force was neither good nor evil, without thought or intention; it may be called the Tao, the ultimate, destiny, or the law.

It did not create the world in seven days, nor did it produce a lotus flower from its navel, nor did it create the world, nor did it mend the sky or create humans. It never witnessed the wonder of opening its eyes to be the sun and closing them to be the night. It simply slept in ignorance and without awareness. Rather than being an existence, it is more like a natural law.

After a very long time, the chaotic world finally stabilized, and then a huge chasm formed in the chaotic world, with the Land of Fire and the Land of Mist on either side of the chasm. This was the earliest world.

Long, long afterward, a fire giant was born in the chaotic land of fire. The bewildered fire giant did not know what to do, but he vaguely felt that he was carrying some kind of mission. So he raised his fire sword and slashed at the glaciers in the chaotic world.

The glacier melted into water, which fell into the chasm. The cold and heat of the Land of Fire and the Land of Mist on both sides of the chasm merged to form scorching steam, and from the steam a giant with great power was born - the Frost Giant Ymir.

As this oldest frost giant grew, he licked the salt seeping from the earth as nourishment for his growth. However, when the salt on the earth was licked away, another giant hidden deep in the earth was revealed: the oldest god, Boli.

The two giants got along very well and became good friends. However, this harmonious relationship was broken after the frost giant Ymir found a spring of water.

Having drunk from the Fountain of Wisdom, Ymir saw that distant yet destined future...

At the end of that long river of time, lies an unimaginably powerful force. As this world continues to flow forward in ignorance, one day it will fall into the mouth of this sleeping force and be devoured by it.

That power was referred to as Orlaug by the two giants...

A deep sense of fear enveloped the two giants, and the oldest giant and the oldest god engaged in an unprecedentedly fierce argument. In the end, the frost giant Ymir killed his best friend with his own hands in order to complete his plan.

However, Boli's descendants swore revenge for their father, and thus began a protracted war between the ancient frost giants and the ancient gods.

Much later, Odin, who possessed the blood of both frost giants and gods and thus gained immense power but could no longer live forever, was born. Almost simultaneously, Loki, the frost giant with boundless wisdom, was born.

Like their ancestors Ymir and Boli, the young god and the young frost giant met by chance, eventually became friends, and swore to be brothers.

“We are brothers by blood, and this is not mead meant for the two of us to drink together. I will never drink it alone…”

The young and ambitious god Ymir, along with the frost giants and Hynir, three powerful youths united to overthrow the dull world of their fathers and create a new, infinitely wonderful one. In the end, Ymir died, his body transforming into the World Tree that supports the universe, the surviving frost giants fled Jotunheim, and the young and energetic Aesir gods ruled the world.

However, in the fierce battle, Hainir lost his wisdom, and Loki lost his power. Therefore, Odin, as the king of the gods, ruled over the nine worlds. In order to seek the wisdom to rule the world, he went to the Well of Wisdom to seek wisdom from the giant Mimir, and sacrificed his eye to the Well of Wisdom, thus understanding the inevitable outcome...

Odin hung himself upside down from the World Tree to acquire the almost omnipotent runes; he summoned the brave warriors who had died to Valhalla to prepare for the final battle; he broke with Loki just to keep an eye on the three mischievous children; he had Thor guard the west year-round to guard against the frost giants' movements... All of this was done in an effort to ensure the continuation of the entire universe.

However… Mimir deceived him; everything he did was merely to advance the massive sacrificial ritual known as Ragnarok.

In Ragnarok, all the giants and gods died. The grand sacrificial ceremony successfully appeased the power at the end of time, and Ymir, the giant who was thought to be dead, was reawakened. He buried all the dead deep into the earth. Mimir, who secretly manipulated everything and prevented any accidents, and who was regarded as Ymir's right-hand man, worked with Ymir to trace the entire universe back to the very beginning.

There, the great chasm still existed, the Land of Fire and the Land of Mist, where fire giants were born, frost giants awoke, and the corpses of the dead were reassembled into the ancient god Boli…

The world has been created and destroyed time and time again.

Everything is in an infinite cycle, the beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning, without beginning or end. Although it is always moving forward, it can never reach the end of time, but in doing so, it escapes that predetermined fate.

However, in the endless repetition, even though Ymir and Mimir erased all traces, the traces in the Well of Wisdom were the only ones they could not erase. The phantoms that once existed there would appear again with each cycle of reincarnation.
