Devouring World Dragon
Chapter 97 The Final End
Chapter 97 The Final End
“As Mimir said, in this distorted circular time, everyone is destined to die, whether it is me, Odin, Jormungandr, Hela, Fenrir, Thor… all life is destined to die. But in other words, after all life has died, before the universe is traced back to its original source, this predetermined fate will briefly have a loophole, and fate will fall into chaos.”
"This loophole should have been patched by the invincible giant Ymir. It would have wiped out all survivors, thus declaring the complete destruction of the world. Then, the entire universe would have flown back in time to the very beginning, and the cycle would have started again..."
Looking at the giant, Loki's eyes held a complex expression as he continued.
"So, you want me to fight that giant Ymir?"
A deep voice sounded.
"Yes, the World Serpent of Jormungandr is dead, just like that fate, dying in the final battle with Thor. And here is a monster named Meng... I did not fight against fate, but submitted to it and used it."
As he spoke, a hint of melancholy appeared on Loki's lips.
What makes you think I would agree with you?
"Because I don't believe you could accept losing to Thor so calmly without trying to vent your frustrations on someone."
Listening to Loki's words, the empty eye sockets looked down at the tiny figure below, and finally opened its mouth and laughed silently.
“Interesting…Loki, you are indeed an interesting fellow.”
After saying this, amidst a burst of maniacal laughter, the monster, composed entirely of bones, immediately raised its upper body, crawled out of the abyss of death, and charged towards the invincible giant. From beginning to end, it never considered whether it would lose.
The awakened giant also opened his eyes, looking at the enormous creature charging towards him, his pupils indifferent and cold.
A few breaths later, the entire universe was filled with the sounds and roars of the two enormous monsters locked in fierce combat.
……
While silently watching the two monsters outside the Fountain of Wisdom, Loki turned to look at the Fountain of Wisdom behind him.
In his eyes, what appeared to be a clear spring filled with lucid water to ordinary people was actually a cavity filled with decay and stench, oozing a viscous secretion. The surrounding environment resembled some kind of flesh and blood, covered with blue veins and dark red flesh. What did the deepest part of this cavity connect to? Even Loki, who had personally ventured into the deepest part, did not know. He could only vaguely sense that this well of wisdom was connected to the existence at the end of time.
Loki bent down, looked at the thick secretions filling his cavity, scooped them up, and then tilted his head back to drink them.
Odin sacrificed one of his eyes to the Well of Wisdom, thus gaining the wisdom to see the past, future, and present; while Mimir drank a cup of the Well of Wisdom every day, thus gaining infinite wisdom and becoming almost an omniscient being who sees through everything.
However, the knowledge and wisdom that Odin and Mimir gained were within the realm of common sense, while the wisdom that Loki obtained from the deepest part of the Well of Wisdom was beyond the comprehension of common sense.
Just as you can't describe ice to a tiny insect that lives in summer and dies in autumn, because it's something far beyond its comprehension, the wisdom that Odin and Mimir acquired, whether it was seeing through the future or mastering various spells, is something that can be understood. But what Loki saw, such as "those hidden numbers," is something far beyond what common sense can imagine, understand, or even perceive.
Those things are utterly incomprehensible to ordinary people. However, the wisdom acquired by Odin, Mimir, and Loki is but a fraction of the total wisdom contained within the Well of Wisdom—utterly insignificant. And the entire Well of Wisdom itself is but a fraction of what that great being revealed in his musings. But it is precisely because of this that perhaps something Loki so desperately seeks might exist within it…
Some kind of truth.
After Loki drank the strange liquid, the surge of wisdom that flooded his mind almost made him dizzy, causing him to collapse to the ground, gasping for breath.
"Uh...ahem..."
Clutching his chest where his heart was pounding violently, Loki was barely able to make a sound due to the deep, agonizing pain emanating from the depths of his brain.
Every sip of the water in this Fountain of Wisdom is a tremendous burden. The overwhelming wisdom that floods the brain is enough to instantly burn out the brain of any ordinary human being. Even gods cannot drink too much of it. This is why the old giant Mimir only drinks one cup a day, not to mention Loki, who is currently in a weakened state.
My whole body was in excruciating pain, and cold sweat was pouring out rapidly.
Even so, Loki gritted his teeth and persevered, continuing to scoop up the viscous liquid from the Fountain of Wisdom and drink it all in one gulp, completely disregarding whether his body could withstand it. After all, he was destined to die; if he didn't die, his fate would never end, and he would be unable to escape this endless cycle.
But more importantly...
He wanted to understand why the world was the way it was. What was hidden beneath its absurd and bizarre exterior?
Is he really just a prisoner of fate, with no way to escape?
One cup... two cups... three cups...
He had lost count of how much he had drunk. Countless wild and bizarre thoughts filled Loki's mind in a chaotic frenzy. Finally, as he nearly lost consciousness and became delirious, this most intelligent god unconsciously raised his head...
He saw it.
Above my head, there seemed to be a strange, indescribable, enormous phantom, as if the night sky were covering the world... No, it was larger than the night sky, even larger than the entire world, the entire universe, and the entire spacetime!
An invisible phantom seemed to shroud everything, with only the occasional low murmurs of madness reaching one's ears.
His body trembled uncontrollably, and his bloodshot eyes, already on the verge of collapse, were filled with an aura of madness.
"Heh...heh heh...heh heh hahahahahahahaha..."
He knelt down in despair, his eyes unable to resist staring at the being above him. The evil god let out a maniacal laugh that was both a cry and a laugh. He finally understood everything, but his path had finally come to an end, and the world had finally reached its due final conclusion.
“Or... Lauger”.
