Devouring World Dragon

Chapter 30 Dreamland

Chapter 30 Dreamland
Fire, endless flames are burning.

The magnificent tree, now without support, is slowly tilting. Its size is so enormous that even a simple fall would take thousands or tens of thousands of years. But no matter how slow it may be, this day will eventually come, and no one can stop it.

The few remaining stars fell one by one from the shattered sky to the burning earth. The ocean, filled with poisonous gas, was covered with floating corpses stretching for thousands of miles. The sky, riddled with holes of varying sizes, was no longer able to protect this universe. Endless chaos from beyond leaked in through the broken holes, accelerating the death of this world.

The once prosperous world has now been reduced to ruins. Gods are dead, giants are dead, monsters are dead, all life is dead.

Everywhere was filled with blood, corpses, and flames. The beautiful, the ugly, the kind, the evil, the terrifying, the loving... all of them died in that final battle.

Amidst these ruins and the burning flames, a blurry figure still seemed to be wearily and laboriously moving forward. Its appearance and form were indistinct, but one could sense the sorrow that filled its heart.

It just kept walking, as if trying to find something.

Has it been found?
Or perhaps it simply wasn't found?
do not know.

However, when it faced this fiery world that was heading towards death, it finally seemed to run out of strength and knelt down helplessly before this world of death. It looked blankly at the world that was gradually collapsing before it, covered its face, and finally cried out in despair.

"..."

Even without hearing the other person's voice, just looking at that frail figure lying on the ground, helpless and crying like a child in front of the burning world, one can almost feel the endless despair and pain in the other person's heart.

……

In the endless depths of the sea, a pair of enormous, cold serpentine eyes suddenly opened, their vertical pupils devoid of any human presence.

"Is it a dream?"

Meng, or rather, Jormungandr, pondered with some doubt.

Since coming into this world, it has rarely dreamed. It's not that it doesn't dream at all, but as a mythical creature, the number of times it dreams can be counted on one hand, and each time it is not an ordinary dream.

For him, a single breath is a tornado, a roar can unleash lightning and thunder, a slight movement can create a monstrous tsunami on the sea, and if he were to stretch his body, even the universe would appear too small in comparison.
A single drop of blood can instantly transform a frail mortal into a super strongman capable of pulling down nine oxen and supporting a pillar with one hand. A single scale can be forged into the world's finest armor and shield. A simple gaze is enough to cause humans to gradually evolve into half-human, half-snake monsters under his watchful eye. Without a doubt, even if he is considered a monster, he is absolutely no less than any god.

But what would such a monster be like if it dreamed?

Although Jormungandr believed that his intelligence seemed to have improved after accepting those sacrifices, it was still a bit difficult for him to recall the dream he had when he was so hungry that his eyes were bloodshot and he was practically no different from a wild beast.

He could only vaguely recall that he seemed to have seen in a dream a chaotic world where three indistinct youths fought against a colossal giant that inspired despair. In the end, the leader of the youths successfully killed the giant, which fell to the ground and transformed into a giant tree.

In other dreams, he seemed to see an old man guarding a spring, with a young man standing beside him. The old man muttered something to the young man, who thought for a moment and then gouged out one of his eyes and threw it into the spring in exchange for a cup of water to drink.

For example, there are men hanging upside down from trees, giants silently slashing at glaciers with their swords, and giants covered in flames... and so on.

Jormungandr could guess what some of his dreams were about, since even without knowing Norse mythology, he could hear a lot about the gods just by listening to the prayers of those who prayed. But there were some dreams that Jormungandr couldn't understand at all.

Jormungandr had a vague feeling that some of the dreams he saw belonged to the past, some to the present, and some... to the future. However, this time, Jormungandr was able to easily discern something from the dream.

"Ragnarok..."

Lying on the dark seabed of the endless ocean, Jormungandr's eyes were cold as he pondered.

He didn't know much about Ragnarok, but he did know that it was said that the ending of Norse mythology was the annihilation of all humans, gods, and monsters.

but……

None of his business.

Jormungandr closed his eyes again. As long as no one offended him, he didn't care about Ragnarok or total annihilation. He could let others fight to the death as long as he could sleep.

However, this large snake, though possessing some intelligence, was far from quick-witted, even sluggish, and seemed to have forgotten something... it was also on the list of those to be wiped out.

……

On the other hand, Loki and Thor ran into trouble.

"Uh... Thor, are you sure we haven't made a mistake?"

Loki stared in disbelief at the enormous underwater canyon before him, and asked in bewilderment.

To be fair, this underwater canyon is indeed very deep. Looking down, all you see is darkness, and it's probably at least a hundred meters deep. But to say that it could hide a serpent that coils around the world is a bit of a stretch.

"Damn it, how was I supposed to know? I've never been to the bottom of the sea before."

Thor said somewhat angrily, waving his hand to shoo away the sea creatures around him, such as... a huge octopus that was nearly a hundred meters long.

Reaching the endless deep sea where the serpent hid was quite simple. The somewhat shy sea god Nild gave them a ride, and then, in the vast ocean beyond the near sea, the two met the old sea god Egil.

Although the old sea god was furious that the serpent had caused his ocean to be bombarded by countless meteors, and thus didn't give Loki a friendly look, he still guided them to a place on the seabed, saying that they could find the serpent there.

After bidding farewell to the old sea god, the two headed towards the place he had indicated. However, for more than ten days, no matter how far they went in the seabed, they did not find the great serpent the old sea god had mentioned. Apart from some ignorant deep-sea monsters, there was nothing else.

Wherever they went, apart from some occasional deep-sea canyons, they couldn't even see any underwater mountains, let alone any enormous monsters that lived on the seabed.

Only then did the two gods, who had never been to the bottom of the sea before, have to admit it...

They seem to be lost.
