Devouring World Dragon

Chapter 29 The Whereabouts of the Sun Goddess

Chapter 29 The Whereabouts of the Sun Goddess

When this issue was discussed, all the gods became serious.

If the thousands of magnificent palaces in Asgard could be left to be slowly repaired, just as they were in the beginning, the angry gods might not be unable to tolerate spending tens of thousands of years slowly restoring them. However, the vanished sun is currently the biggest problem.

If we were to categorize the entire cosmic order established by the Aesir into different levels, the sun would undoubtedly play an extremely important role, and its absence would almost bring this stable cosmic order to the brink of collapse.

More than one god angrily suggested cutting down the serpent and tearing the sun out of its belly to hang it back in the sky. However, due to various troubles and thorny issues, including the invasion of the frost giants and Loki's failure to show his face, the gods were unable to spare any effort and remained inactive for more than half a year, unable to attend to the serpent that had caused all this chaos.

Now that the frost giants' invasion has been quelled, and all the valiant gods, including Thor, have returned, as has Loki, who had been absent until now, meaning that this long-delayed matter is finally about to find a solution.

Loki smiled as he looked at the gods before him, his smiling face making it impossible to tell what he was thinking. Then, just as he was about to speak, a voice suddenly rang out.

"I still think we should cut off that thing's head; it's not a peaceful creature."

Tyr, the God of War, looked at Loki with a hint of anger on his face.

Loki paused for a moment, then looked at Tyr and then at the other gods. Although he didn't speak, it was clear from the attitudes of the many gods present that most of them agreed with Tyr's idea.

He chuckled and then sat back down on his throne, speaking slowly and deliberately.

"I don't think...it's necessary."

"you……"

Tyr's brows furrowed, and he was about to say something in anger.

"Calm down, Tyr. I know what you're trying to say, but Sul isn't dead yet."

Before Tyr could finish speaking, Loki waved his hand as if he could read Tyr's mind.

He stared at Tyr in front of him, his pupils unusually serious, and said in a low voice.

“I’ve been to the land of the dead, but even if I searched the entire Helheim, I couldn’t find the soul of the dead Sull.”

Helheim is the lowest level of the World Tree, the final resting place of all the dead. After the death of all the living, their souls gather in Helheim without exception. Even gods, once they die, their souls also fall into Helheim.

Tyr stared in astonishment at Loki before him, and opened his mouth to try and refute him.

"Perhaps Sur didn't go to Hel after he died..."

"If she's not in Helheim, where else could she be!"

But Loki's reaction was unexpectedly forceful. He interrupted Tyr's words directly and rudely, his frost-white needle-shaped pupils fixed on Tyr in front of him, and said in a serious tone.

"The souls of all those who die gloriously on the battlefield will go to Valhalla under the guidance of the Valkyries, and the souls of all those who die in bed due to disease and old age will naturally fall into the land of the dead. This is the order established by Odin, the king of the gods, at the beginning of the creation of heaven and earth."

"The Sun Goddess Sul was not human, so the only place that could accommodate her soul after death is the very bottom of the World Tree, where she is with those ancient gods who have passed away. But I searched the entire Land of the Dead and couldn't find any trace of the Sun Goddess Sul... There is only one explanation: the Sun Goddess Sul is not dead, and she is still in the womb of Jormungand with the sun!"

Loki, who usually seemed indifferent to everything, looked unusually serious at this moment, as if he had been touched on some untouchable sore spot. His aggressive and unyielding aura surprised even the gods.

However, Tyr, the God of War, was not intimidated; his face revealed a furious expression.

Are you threatening me?

As he spoke, his fiery and impulsive nature caused him to instinctively place his hand on the hilt of the long sword hanging at his waist. The Norse gods were born warriors; even in Odin's palace, they wore armor and carried weapons at their waists, never letting their weapons leave their side.

"So what!"

But Loki, surprisingly, was unyielding. Facing one of the strongest gods in Asgard, he didn't give an inch, retorting with a single sentence. He also placed his hand on the dagger at his waist, his eyes sharp, his body slightly hunched, adopting a defensive posture.

In the blink of an eye, the two gods who were talking peacefully suddenly became tense and on the verge of a life-or-death struggle.

An invisible, chilling killing intent formed between the two men who were facing each other.

And just then...

"enough!"

With a furious roar, the God-King's scepter slammed heavily onto the golden palace steps.

"boom!"

A heavy crash suddenly rang out, and in an instant, it seemed as if the earth shook and the entire Golden Palace trembled. The gods could barely stand. Only then did Loki and Tyr look at Odin directly above the palace and notice the gloomy and angry expression on his face.

After glancing at the two gods before them, Odin, under his watchful gaze, both of them wisely returned to their thrones.

Loki, on the other hand, remained indifferent, lazily leaning against his throne as if everything that had just happened was merely an illusion. Only Tyr looked at Loki with dissatisfaction and anger.

Then, the person in charge of the gaze looked at Loki, who seemed completely unconcerned and was whistling as if nothing was happening to him, and said in a deep voice.

"Loki, now that you're certain that Sul is not dead, what are your plans?"

The whistling stopped abruptly, and then Loki looked at Odin in front of him and said with a serious expression.

"Take the sun and Sul out of Jormungandr's belly."

Indeed, if the sun goddess Sul were still alive and the sun were still there, then there would be no problem as long as both were removed from Jormungandr's belly.

but……

Loki made no mention of punishing Jormungandr, his intention to protect him was self-evident.

Odin saw all of this but said nothing. He simply stared at Loki in front of him, his single, calm eye revealing nothing of his thoughts. After a long while, he finally spoke.

"You and Thor should go and handle this."

Upon hearing this, Loki's lips curled into a smile.

……

Inside the Golden Palace, as Loki and Thor departed, the other gods also left to attend to their own affairs. Only the one-eyed god-king sat silently on his throne, his hand supporting his forehead, as if deep in thought.

After a long while, he seemed to mutter something, and then, a raven on his shoulder suddenly flew out of the Golden Palace...
