False evidence

Chapter 28 - Level 1

Chapter 28 Basement

Hearing that ghostly voice, I shuddered slightly.

Turning around, I saw a woman wearing a blue striped hospital gown, with disheveled hair and a slightly pale face, staring at me with a furrowed brow.

I twitched the corner of my mouth slightly, first putting my index finger in front of my lips to signal the other person to be quiet.

Then, he pointed to the corner of his mouth, shook his head slightly, indicating that it was inconvenient for him to speak.

The woman stared at me intently for a while, then put a cigarette in her mouth, silently walked up to me, and gestured for me to light it.

I snatched the cigarette from her, stuffed it into my mouth, gestured at her a few times, and then unceremoniously grabbed her hand and started walking forward.

The two arrived at the stairwell of the hospital building, where the woman asked in a sinister tone, "What do you want?"

I showed her the message I had typed on my phone beforehand, and she chuckled coldly, "That's novel. You're going to take me—to find me!"

I quickly typed a few more lines on my phone.

"Okay, fine, we'll do it your way. But remember, you brought this all on yourself, and you'll have to bear the consequences!"

The other person's voice trembled slightly, which sent a chill down my spine.

I don't know if what I did was right or wrong, but people are selfish. I only know that if I don't do this today, I might regret it for the rest of my life.

We turned around and looked at each other, but the other person just glared at me viciously and didn't make any further moves.

I was a little out of breath after walking up to the eighth floor.

Thankfully it was in a hospital with good air conditioning, otherwise it would have felt like being soaked in water.

I bit down hard on the unlit cigarette butt, opened the emergency exit, and walked out confidently, all the way to the elevator.

After a moment's hesitation, I pressed the button.

The elevator stopped shortly after it started descending, and with a "ding," my heart skipped a beat.

Look at the display screen, it says the sixth floor.

Gao He entered the elevator on this floor during the day. Although he didn't say it explicitly, given his style, it was tantamount to telling me directly that, according to Bian Xiaomao's account, the female corpse entered the elevator on this floor.

I instinctively retreated to a corner, and when the elevator doors opened, there was no one outside.

What I could see was a strangely shaped shadow reflected in the white tiles on the ground to one side!
I held my breath and didn't press any more buttons. I just stared at that shadow until the elevator doors closed again.

The elevator stopped again; we were now on the basement level.

I glanced up sideways, then stepped out. I walked a few steps straight ahead, turned a corner, and quickly slipped behind a pillar.

As I looked up to examine it, I suddenly felt my left wrist being gripped by an icy hand.

I shuddered and slowly turned my eyes to the side, only to see that what was holding my hand was a pale human hand.

The owner of this hand was none other than the female patient with long, loose hair in the blue striped hospital gown from before!
I took a deep breath, quickly glanced up again, grabbed the other person's hand, and hurried a few steps to a corner behind the elevator. Finally, I couldn't resist taking out a lighter and lighting the cigarette in my mouth.

The woman looked straight at me: "Give me a puff..."

I shook my head, took two deep drags, and then stubbed out the cigarette.

At the same time, he subconsciously glanced at her feet. Seeing her fair instep, his heart pounded again.

I exhaled a long puff of smoke, then pulled the woman's slightly stiff waist into my arms. Before she could resist, I led her to the side.

And so, the woman was half-“held hostage” by me, walking aimlessly for a full ten minutes before finally unable to hold back and speaking:

Why are we still here? Are we lost?

Feeling her trembling, I had no choice but to speak up, whispering, "Yes, we're lost. And we're lost near home."

The woman, who had been trembling, gave me a vicious glare upon hearing this, and then surprisingly straightened up and stopped shaking. But when she glanced at the blue sign with white lettering that read "Morgue" not far away, she shuddered again and leaned closer to me.

I sighed inwardly and whispered in her ear, "Listen to me, perhaps our lives have another meaning." We continued to walk hand in hand, weaving through the many overnight buses. But no matter how we circled around, the sign for the morgue was always clearly visible.

“We’re really lost.” The woman’s previous hostility towards me had vanished, replaced by fear in her voice.

"No! I can bring you down, and I can bring you back."

As I spoke in a low voice, I quickly looked around. My gaze fell on a spot, and suddenly it was as if a bolt of lightning had struck my mind.

“Let’s do it again!” I said to the woman.

The truth is, the two of them walked slowly around the four laps together.

The woman stopped again, her eyes filled with sorrow as she looked at the 'morgue' sign: "Are you really going to send me there?"

"Ah."

I nodded vigorously. "But before I leave, let's be friends."

As I spoke, I half-carried, half-embraced her and led her back to the spot where I had first lit my cigarette.

I said, "My real name is Sanqi."

The woman looked around, and when she faced me, her eyes held a hint of disbelief, but it quickly revealed a mischievous glint in them:
"You're the one behind all this? A new way to pick up girls? Heh, I never knew you were so cunning, you smooth-talking rascal..."

Before the words were finished, a soft "ding" sound was heard.

The next second, footsteps sounded, and someone shouted, "Sanqi!"

"Sanqi! Where is it?!"

I had already pushed the woman against the elevator wall, and when I heard the call, I tried to back away, but she grabbed my waist. Her eyes gleamed, and her lips parted slightly, but she spoke with a vicious glint in her eye:

"Don't make a sound! If you dare embarrass me, I'll never forgive you!"

I shook my head. "Let's take care of business first."

"Important business?" The woman was taken aback.

I nodded, coughed, and shouted back, "Here!"

As the woman quickly pushed me away, Gao and the monkey were already in front of me.

Both of them looked rather unwell, but when they saw the woman's face clearly, they both showed expressions of astonishment.

"Pei Xiaofan!"

"Preserved Egg?! What are you doing here?"

The woman pointed at me with her thumb, looking annoyed, and mumbled something while smoothing her hair:
"If you have any problems, go to him, don't ask me. I'm the victim."

Gao He stared at me, his anger growing more and more palpable. "What exactly are you doing?"

I calmly said, "You're the one who approached me. Don't you know what your purpose is?"

Before he could speak, I grabbed Pidan and quickly walked in one direction.

The monkey pressed on, asking, "Sanqi, what are you doing? And Pidan, isn't she in the ward? There were so many people at the door, how did you manage to steal her out?"

I must admit, the use of the word "steal" by the monkey is exactly what I wanted to hear.

However, after exchanging a glance, Pidan and I tacitly agreed that neither of us intended to reveal the secret of our 'stealing someone'.

"Stop right there! What do you want?" Gao He finally roared in anger.

I quickened my pace, then abruptly stopped and pointed at a car in front of me:

"Weren't you looking for a body? The missing woman's body is in this car!"
