False evidence

Chapter 14 The Hunt for the Killer

Chapter 14 The Hunt for the Killer (Part 2)

Once outside, Gao He immediately asked me, "Are you sure he's not the murderer you saw that night?"

I swallowed hard and hesitated before saying, "I can't say for sure, but I think he's a bit tall. And his hands are a bit big too."

Gao He raised an eyebrow: "I remember you said you were very scared that night, and when you ran out, you only saw the killer's back as he fled. It was raining so hard that night, how could you notice so many details?"

"I also mentioned that before that, I had a dream."

Seeing the strange looks from the two people next to me, I gave a wry smile. I already said it was a dream, so why would they take what they saw in a dream as evidence?

Gao He didn't say anything more. He paced back and forth at the door of the interrogation room for a full minute before stopping and looking at me. "You still have some impression of the murderer, but... it was caused under different circumstances."

I didn't dare to speak, and Gao He didn't press me, continuing:
"The hole in the wall is 203 centimeters from the ground, and the seat of Yang Wudao's chair is 47 centimeters high. You are about 175 to 177 centimeters tall. Standing on the chair, you would definitely have to bend over to get your eyes to the hole in the wall. The suspect is 184 centimeters tall. Standing on a stool of similar height, he would have to bend over even more to get his eyes to the hole in the wall."

I finally couldn't help but interrupt him: "The stool he was standing on wasn't that high, at most 30 centimeters! And he didn't even bend over!"

Gao He's eyes flashed: "If that's the case, then 203 minus 30, the murderer should be slightly shorter than you?"

I nodded: "The knife used as the murder weapon was a kitchen knife, similar to the ones I saw in the kitchen when I worked at a restaurant. My hands are small for a man, and when I grip the handle, a quarter to a fifth of the handle is still sticking out. I don't remember if the murderer was wearing gloves, but I remember the exposed part of the handle was definitely more. The man just now had very large hands; even without gloves, he could almost grip the entire handle..."

At this point, I suddenly realized that I had said a bit too much.

"Why are not you talking?"

Gao He raised an eyebrow. "Your observation skills and logical thinking are quite good, making you well-suited for our line of work."

He gestured towards the door of the interrogation room with his chin and leaned forward, "Should we go in and check on the suspect again?"

I quickly said, "Isn't that unnecessary? I was just guessing, and I can't figure it out."

Lin Dan strode over, handed a document to Gao He, and said excitedly:
"The preliminary test results are in: the suspect's blood sample is the same as the blood sample taken from the scene of the Xiangbi Lane case!"

Gao asked, "When will the DNA matching results be available at the earliest?"

"The earliest is 5 pm."

Gao He seemed to say something.

I didn't hear clearly; my gaze was fixed on Lin Dan's face.

Lin Dan seemed to have noticed as well, and turned to look at me.

I was momentarily stunned, and asked Gao He, "What did you just say?"

"I'm asking you, do you still want to go in and take another look?"

I gritted my teeth: "Can I say a few words to them? Before that, I want to ask... what their profession is?"

……

When I entered the interrogation room for the second time, the suspect was leaning back in his chair and had been looking at me with a very nervous gaze ever since I entered.

I took a deep breath and mustered the courage to look him in the eye: "You're not the murderer, so why are you taking the blame for someone else?" He still tilted his head and looked at me, his expression unchanged.

Thinking of his profession, I suddenly remembered a book I had once casually flipped through. I gritted my teeth, braced myself on the table, looked down at him, and said, word by word:

"You're a psychologist, you understand criminal psychology very well! No matter how close you are to the real killer, unless he's brought to justice, you know better than anyone that he'll commit another crime!"

Seeing that the other party remained unmoved, I decided to go all out and shouted, "The murderer is out of control! No matter what you do, you can't stop him! Besides, we've already found out where he works!"

The other person's body trembled slightly, and he actually said, "Is your brain broken, or have all of your brains been squeezed by a door?"

I waved my hand forcefully: "I know you're good at psychology, but we're not as useless as you think! You're taking the blame for the real killer because he's your only family! I know he's your brother, but do you know that he's already killed seven people? Do you know that the first person he killed was very likely your mother!"

"What did you say?!" The other person suddenly straightened up, and the shackles on his feet rattled.

"I'm telling you! You should have had another relative, but she was killed by your brother!"

After saying that, I was suddenly stunned.

Gao He didn't show me the suspect's information, but only told me that his name was Tong Xiangnan and that he was a psychologist.

When I saw Lin Dan just now, I did indeed 'fantasize' about some scenes, but what I said just now seemed like something I blurted out without thinking, in a moment of excitement. These things didn't even exist in my 'fantasy' before; it was as if they appeared simultaneously with my words after I faced Tong Xiangnan directly.

Tong Xiangnan's breathing became heavy, but he had a strong ability to control his emotions. He stared at me with his one eye, his pupils rolled slightly, and he said in a deep voice, "If you say you are my colleague, you are a bit too young."

I said, "You don't need to know who I am. All you need to know is that you have committed a crime! What I said is the truth. You are risking your life to protect a beast who killed his own mother!"

Tong Xiangnan also raised his voice: "I need to remind you, without evidence..."

I was about to interrupt him when suddenly I vaguely heard a sound.

The sound was almost negligible in the interrogation room, which was isolated from the outside world, but to me it was like a thunderclap in my ear.

My heart started pounding. "Is it raining outside?"

Gao He's expression changed, he opened the door and strode out, returning quickly to say, "It just thundered, but it hasn't snowed yet."

I turned to Lin Dan, but couldn't see anything else.

Gao asked, "What are you trying to say?"

Although I find some of these things absurd, considering the matter of human lives, I still grit my teeth and say them:
"The killer has gone mad; he's likely to strike again! Now!"

Gao He breathed a sigh of relief. "If that's the case, he's just walking into a trap. Our people are still at the killer's last target's house; they haven't evacuated yet..."

"Not that one!"

I was already walking briskly outside, taking out my phone and dialing a number. "Brother Monkey, don't ask anything. Go to Pidan's house right now and take her and her mother to the nearest police station!"

As soon as I got in the car, I floored the accelerator and sped off towards the east of the city...
