Warhammer: In the Name of Ashes

Chapter 8 The Child and the Sledgehammer

When the initial shock subsided, Calvin gradually calmed down. He started thinking about an obvious question:

"What they see are these walls. Or...influenced by the essence of the soul, all they can see are just walls!"

While thinking, he returned his perspective to normal until the ball that symbolized his soul became the size of a ping pong ball again.

Looking at the sphere in front of him, a fact that made him feel shuddering and uneasy was placed in front of him: as an outsider, his soul was fundamentally different from the people in this universe.

And the black gem in front of him was far less docile than it was when faced with people other than himself.

Calvin opened his hand and gently held it in his palm, watching the sphere float quietly in his palm.

The black lightning, which was originally as thick as a giant tree, became almost invisible from this perspective... But Calvin, who had already had a close observation, was no longer deceived by these appearances.

He already understood how majestic the sphere in front of him, or rather his own essence, was compared to the soul of a native species in this universe. And that electric current, as subtle as silk, must be so violent when facing others.

A lot of information about his soul itself was conveyed to his consciousness the first time he saw those pictures:

"Lightning is composed of psychic energy, which is the energy that maintains the operation of the sphere and is also the weapon that protects his own integrity. The broken walls are the memories and emotions lost during his soul's journey to this universe."

This is the conclusion that Calvin draws from this observation. It turned out that after 14 years of slow recovery, the psychic energy in his soul had approached the minimum standard for rekindling more than once.

But in addition to spiritual energy, the loss of the soul, which is the main substance that makes up the sphere, cannot be restored by itself.

Therefore, the subconscious-dominated sphere can only instinctively try to rekindle his consciousness each time the psychic energy is sufficient.

But without enough soul fragments of intelligent beings and the emotions carried on them, the failure of the restart operation is inevitable.

And he could only have the opportunity to observe this body that was mentally deficient because it had no soul, at the moment when the ignition failed.

If he just waited like this, waiting for his body to age step by step until he died, Calvin would never be able to wait until he regained consciousness. How hopeless that would be.

After waiting for 14 years, the witch by chance filled up the last one-billionth gap for him, giving him a chance to see the light of day again.

The long wait is excruciating, but it's not a bad thing. It is precisely because of this that Calvin has 14 years to allow his body to grow sufficiently, and then he can barely withstand the terrifying spiritual pressure coming from his soul when he regains consciousness in the future.

During these days on the ship, he had the opportunity to understand that in most cases, the strength of a psyker was inversely proportional to the physical strength of his body in reality.

After all, most powerful psychic powers are innate, and the powerful but uncontrollable power and the undeveloped body form an unequal oppression. This also prevents most people from developing normally.

Except for a few weirdos who were born in the wild world, it is almost a law for this group of people that the stronger the psychic energy, the thinner the body.

People like Calvin can give their bodies enough time to develop before picking up psychic talents. It can be said to be unique in the history of the entire empire.

This was also the reason why his subconscious couldn't wait to feed himself back after digesting the "offerings" from the witches.

In terms of the soul his body carries, his bear-like strong body still cannot match it at all.

Fortunately, in the short time after he regained consciousness, he didn't think about or have the chance to use this power. (A group of Sisters of Silence patrol around them 24 hours a day...)

Otherwise, even a child swinging a sledgehammer can't describe his danger. Thinking of this, Calvin touched the back of his head with some fear.

Before releasing the first bolt of psychic lightning, having his whole body of flesh and blood evaporated instantly is probably the happiest way for him to die...

One day later, the Mariachi, which was allowed to enter the port, was finally captured by the moon's gravity and slowly docked in the towering star port in orbit.

After successfully docking with the spacecraft at the docking port, the cargo represented by Calvin was carefully transferred in batches to the staff of the Star Language Court stationed on the moon.

This was also Calvin's first opportunity to observe closely the airport that best represented the prosperity of the empire.

Countless huge cargo ships, like locusts, were constantly coming in and out of the star port built around the entire moon's gravitational orbit.

After unloading the special products and materials produced from various planetary worlds, they hurriedly drove away.

And these massive supplies are only a part of the daily shipping system that the empire maintains.

His career as a veteran in his previous life also allowed him to see how powerful and arrogant the prosperity before him was, as well as the huge empire that spanned the entire galaxy and had hundreds of millions of soldiers supported by it.

Without stopping for too long, Calvin and his companions, who were "sensitive materials", were quickly taken to the spacecraft in batches by heavily armed guards and flew to their assigned units.

Far away from Saturn on the other side of the sun, a gray spacecraft with the same destination also quietly sailed towards Terra from Rhea...

The spaceship carrying Calvin also carried five children of similar age. Their exquisite clothes were in sharp contrast to Calvin, who only wore a set of gray training uniforms issued by the black ship.

They did not take offense to Calvin because of this. More accurately, it ignored Calvin.

These children from extraordinary families have obviously received a sufficiently good elite education since childhood.

This made them face a strong man who was 210 centimeters tall and weighed more than 130 kilograms at close range. Except for the leader who raised his eyebrows slightly when they first met, they had no other expressions.

Soon, the spacecraft carrying Calvin landed on the landing pad in a corner of the majestic palace complex in the Himalayas.

The destination of their trip, which is also the training institution for all junior psykers of Xingyuting, the City of Vision, has arrived.

There were already people waiting on the tarmac. After reading out the personnel numbers, these people in black robes led the corresponding students and left.

The same goes for Calvin. Follow the guide in front and walk silently to the main square in the distance.

Calvin saw a huge square in the distance, almost beyond the limits of his field of vision. The Romanesque building complex at the end of the square is complex and solemn. On the main building in the middle, a huge striped battle flag hangs from top to bottom.

In the center of a pure black background is a red eye with a sun crown and two wings. It is the emblem of the City of Vision, the alma mater of all registered psykers under the Imperial Astral Court.

After a full 2 hours, the group finally reached a tower on the edge of the building complex.

This is also their living area. After receiving basic living supplies, a set of black robes, and two sets of black training uniforms at the door, Calvin was assigned to a single dormitory.

The facilities in the room include only a bed, a set of tables and chairs, and nothing else.

It's 7 o'clock Terra time. After a brief wash, Calvin, who was too active during the day, quickly fell asleep.

At the same time, a figure taller than Calvin had just stepped off a Thunderhawk assault boat. When a large airport pick-up team saw this man's figure from a distance, they all knelt down in the Sky Eagle Salute and chanted:

"In the name of the Emperor, we would like to represent the Star Language Academy of Psionics. Welcome, respected Grand Master Aidan."
