Chapter 60 A Time of Confusion
Almost a week has passed since the "Kano Ward Incident," and Japanese society is still in turmoil, with all sorts of fallacies and rumors spreading everywhere. But none of this matters much to Izuku Midoriya.
He had been in a state of distress ever since he woke up. All Might hadn't returned to U.A. High School recently, and he wondered what the No. 1 hero had been up to. Izuku Midoriya felt very upset.
Regarding the matter of Akaya Kaiun, the teacher who taught him so much was the BOSS of the "League of Villains" and the mastermind behind all these things.
After Izuku Midoriya and All Might were defeated that day, Kaiu Akaya himself disappeared and left the scene. The remaining AFO violently suppressed all the pro heroes. Even Endeavor, No. 2, appeared weak and vulnerable in front of this man. The heroes truly understood the terror of the enemy who had fought All Might. The reporter on the helicopter faithfully broadcast the scene to everyone.
In the end, AFO naturally held back, defeating all the heroes who had gathered before leaving... After all, Akaya Kaiun had given orders not to harm any of the heroes.
The heroes' defeat, the fall of the "symbol of peace," and the destruction of the people's faith pillars by violence—as people began to question the necessity of professional heroes amidst a chorus of fallacies—the Japanese government, as if in cooperation, introduced a new law restricting professional heroes, replacing them with "Leo's Cavalry" to maintain order.
Furthermore, most of the criminal gangs have been brought under control by the "League of Villains." The few who still tried to cause trouble were completely wiped out by the "weird executives" and the Nomu. The efficiency of the alliance between the underworld and the criminals is truly astonishing.
Faced with a pre-planned scheme, the collapsed Heroic Society did not experience much chaos. In just one week, apart from some citizens being unable to accept reality, there were no problems with public order.
"Was Akaya-sensei right...?"
This is a question that Izuku Midoriya is pondering. Even All Might has told him that there's nothing wrong with what Kaion Akaya did, but Midoriya still can't quite accept this reality... After all, the fact that Kaion Akaya is the boss of the League of Villains is a huge blow to him.
Midoriya is not currently at U.A. High School. After all these events, he has lost the will to stay at school, and many problems are troubling him.
Previously, Akaya Kaiun was his mentor, but after his teachers became his enemies, Midoriya Izuku fell into a state of confusion from which he could not extricate himself.
After leaving U.A. High School, Izuku Midoriya inexplicably boarded the subway to Kanno Ward, and the student who had run away from school returned to the battlefield from a week earlier.
The scene was a complete mess. Although the heroes and police had evacuated the people in advance, the terrible battle had affected most of the city. Many people's homes were destroyed and turned into ruins. Now, all Izuku Midoriya could see was a group of homeless people. Although there were temporary shelters built by someone, no one showed a smile on their face.
Pulling the hood of his casual clothes over his head to avoid being recognized, Izuku Midoriya slowly walked to the very center, the place where he fought All Might and Kaiu Akaya, and where the destruction was most severe.
A large area was razed to the ground, leaving a gaping wound that stretched all the way to the sea. This was mainly caused by Izuku Midoriya himself, who used a combination of One For All and FAIZ "Burst Mode" to unleash a power that was enough to destroy most of the city.
"I......"
Looking at the horrific scene, Izuku Midoriya was honestly very upset. He had been blinded by rage at the time, and he wondered what would have happened if he had aimed that attack at the evacuation area of ordinary people. Many people would have died if they had been affected by such a terrifying force. It was extremely fortunate that there were no casualties.
"Midori, what are you doing here?"
All Might!?
Surprisingly, All Might, whom he hadn't seen for some time, appeared before him, leaving Izuku Midoriya speechless.
Seemingly understanding what Izuku Midoriya was thinking, All Might pointed to the group of homeless citizens and said seriously:
"Because the battle destroyed many buildings in the Kamino district, there are now many homeless citizens. So I asked my friends to set up temporary shelters and came over in person to cheer them up... but it didn't work very well."
"But...shouldn't this be the government's responsibility?"
"A lot has happened recently, and the Japanese government doesn't seem to have much spare capacity, so as a hero, I naturally have to do my part. Besides, this is also related to us. Midoriya, will you come and help?"
"Um...."
Having accepted All Might's invitation, Izuku Midoriya felt he should do something of his own responsibility. Perhaps it was just a small act of atonement, but it was better than doing nothing.
First of all, it's unclear whether it was All Might's friend who was so wealthy that he built a large temporary residence here. However, in this "Quirk" society, rebuilding a house is not a difficult task. As far as Izuku Midoriya knows, Cement Tsukasa of U.A. High School is incredibly efficient at building houses using his Quirk.
However, many professional heroes are currently unable to come out to help, and it seems that they have to wait for the Japanese government to allocate resources. Only All Might, who is still a very important No. 1 hero, can move freely.
Upon arriving at the refugee camp, Izuku Midoriya noticed that many people were behaving strangely towards All Might. They no longer surrounded the No. 1 hero for photos and autographs as before. However, given what had happened, it was normal for people's attitudes towards All Might to change.
No one stood up to blame All Might, or to blame the No. 1 hero for causing their displacement. All Izuku Midoriya could see in these people's eyes was disappointment, disappointment in the "symbol of peace"... the helplessness of his inner pillar of faith collapsing.
Even when Allmight put on his usual hearty laugh, no one smiled, because they all knew... the "symbol of peace" had been defeated by the enemy.
"All Might..."
Seeing this situation, Izuku Midoriya felt extremely sad. After all, All Might had done so much so that everyone could live peacefully and happily, but because of a defeat, he lost the trust in him, which caused Midoriya unspeakable bitterness.
"All Might, you'll definitely defeat the enemy, won't you!"
The voices weren't those of adults, but those of the children in this temporary shelter. Although these innocent and naive children had witnessed All Might's defeat, they didn't think as much as adults; their thoughts and ideas were very simple.
"Because Mom and Dad said that All Might is the most powerful hero, so only you can defeat the terrible enemy."
"That's right, All Might is the best! I want to become a hero like All Might in the future!!"
"Nonsense! I'm the one who should be a hero like All Might!"
............
The children who were making a ruckus around All Might had happy smiles on their faces because they had seen their idol, and their attitudes were not affected by the defeat of the No. 1 hero.
When people are children, they simply dream of becoming heroes, but as they grow up, their attitudes change for various reasons. Izuku Midoriya was deeply moved when he witnessed all of this.
He started out the same way, wanting to become a hero simply because he admired All Might. There weren't many complicated reasons; it was just a pure and innocent dream.
"Midori, come quick and help me!"
"I am coming."
Summoned by All Might, Izuku Midoriya took on volunteer work, taking care of children.
Chapter 61 On the Verge of Death
Smiles are precious, especially the smiles of children. Innocent and naive, they only smile when they see things they like, which is exactly what All Might is trying to do.
After finishing his work as a volunteer moving supplies, Izuku Midoriya sat down to rest on the ground. He watched All Might, who was still surrounded by children and couldn't get away from them. Or rather, the No. 1 hero was voluntarily accompanying these children. At this moment, even many adults were energized by All Might's actions and encouraged to work hard to rebuild their homes.
"I really am a fool."
Izuku Midoriya, who rarely showed a smile, shook his head to completely dispel his confusion and entanglement. In the end, he had been thinking too complicatedly. No matter what the League of Villains was planning to do, or what Akaya-sensei's purpose was, there was no need to worry about it.
"My reason for becoming a hero is that I want to help others."
"So as long as you can help others, it doesn't matter whether you're a hero or not."
"That's exactly what you do, All Might, isn't it? No matter the situation, whenever someone needs a hero's help, All Might will appear. That's the hero I admire!"
Awakening from his dazed state of mind regarding hero society, Izuku Midoriya finally found his true path. The reason he became a hero... was because he admired All Might and wanted to become a hero like him, a righteous hero who could help everyone.
Later, as they were busy until almost nightfall, All Might and Izuku Midoriya were about to finish their work. Just as they were about to take the subway back, Izuku Midoriya asked All Might a question, still somewhat concerned.
"Um... what's the League of Villains up to lately? Akaya... Kaigumo... what's he planning this time?"
"Although I don't really want to tell you, Midoriya, you've already become an outstanding hero. I have to admit it makes me feel old."
All Might patted Izuku Midoriya on the shoulder, his expression one of great satisfaction. The No. 1 hero, who might retire soon, had found his successor.
"I'm not very clear about Akaya Kaiun's situation, but the actions of the 'League of Villains' are very obvious. They are systematically absorbing enemy forces throughout Japanese society, and basically no one dares to resist them now."
"What are they trying to do..."
"I don't know either, but the leader of the League of Villains is Akaya Kaiun, so it shouldn't be a bad thing, right?"
All Might was unsure, after all, he deeply hated the man who was All For One. The only person he could trust now was Akaya Kaiun, the unfathomable boss of the League of Villains. As long as innocent people weren't harmed, everything was fine.
"I see."
Without asking any further questions, Izuku Midoriya decided to take the subway home; it was time to go home as the sky was already dark.
Leaning back in his subway seat, Izuku Midoriya recalled the ten months he spent getting to know Kaiu Akaya. This teacher had truly become his mentor in life, but he never expected that he was so well hidden. Even All Might was no match for him. It was still hard to believe now.
Back in his city, as Izuku Midoriya slowly walked towards his home, he noticed something unusual: the lights in the entire neighborhood were dim, and not a single house had its lights on.
"The power is out?"
Midoriya Izuku's first reaction was that the situation was not like that; several of his neighbors had collapsed on the road at some unknown time, and the situation suddenly changed!
Izuku Midoriya immediately ran to the neighbors. He checked their heartbeats and breathing, indicating that they had just fainted and were catching their breath.
But the situation was urgent, so Izuku Midoriya quickly ran towards his home and called All Might at the same time.
"Young Midoriya, what's the matter?"
"An accident has happened in my neighborhood. I don't know the specifics yet. I need to go home to see my mother right away."
"What? I'm on my way! Be careful!"
After explaining the situation in a few words, Izuku Midoriya rushed to his front door, only to find it already open. He anxiously rushed inside, only to find someone already waiting for him.
"Izuku, how have you been?"
"Akatani... Haiyun... Where's my mom?!"
The man sitting on his own sofa was someone Izuku Midoriya knew very well, his mentor who had taught him so much, Akaya Kaiun.
"Don't worry, I'm just planning to invite your mother to the 'League of Villains' for a while."
"asshole!!"
Anger surged into his brain. He could let All Might's matter go, but Izuku Midoriya never expected that his respected and admired teacher, Akaya, would actually take his mother hostage. His anger erupted!
The power of "one for all" surged into his right arm, and Izuku Midoriya immediately unleashed a full-force attack at the man in front of him, regardless of the cost. However, the black shadow was one step ahead, binding Izuku Midoriya's right hand and his entire body in advance, eliminating and dissipating the "Quirk" power that was enough to destroy his right hand.
"Son of a bitch....."
Unable to move after being entangled by the shadowy figure and struggling in vain, Izuku Midoriya angrily cursed at Kaiu Akaya.
“Anger alone is not enough to defeat me, so here’s a suggestion for you.”
"If you want to rescue your mother, Hikari Midoriya, then try challenging the League of Villains. If you completely defeat this behemoth, maybe I'll return your mother to you."
"hateful!"
Without saying much to Izuku Midoriya, Kaiun Akaya's shadow slowly rose in front of his chest, forming a sharp spike, before falling down.
Despite feeling intense pain from his pierced body, no blood flowed from him; an unknown force was reshaping him from within.
"You're still too green. Sharpen your fangs before you come back to me."
After Akaya Kaiun's final farewell words, the shadowy figure tossed Midoriya Izuku away, not worrying about him falling from a height and getting hurt, as the new power given to him had already been planted.
In his final moments, Akaya Kaiun simply walked slowly out of the house, closed the door behind him, for this was "his" home, and it could not be destroyed.
"Chigu...Haiyun..."
As Midoriya Izuku fell to the ground below, he reached out his right hand to grab the man before losing consciousness. However, he could only see Akaya Kaion waving his hand and disappearing from upstairs, while all the lights in the neighborhood came on.
In the end, Izuku Midoriya fainted.
Chapter 62 The Moment of Departure
"What a hassle, I'm just making trouble for myself."
Akaya Kaiun had no choice. He couldn't make him do something heinous and abhorrent, but to get Midoriya Izuku to see him as a target that had to be defeated, he had to stir up some trouble.
Currently, besides kidnapping "his" mother, Midoriya Inoko, Akaya Kaiun really can't think of any good solutions, but this is just as good as it seems.
Eri, who is currently staying with the League of Villains, needs a mother figure to take care of her, and it would be good for her to be looked after by Midoriya Inoko.
Furthermore, the power I just gave Izuku Midoriya wasn't some low-tech thing like "monsterization," but something extremely dangerous—truly, extremely dangerous.
Completely oblivious to his own folly, Akaya Kaion left after completing his series of actions, and the shadowy figure that had devoured the entire area also withdrew. Now it's up to Midoriya Izuku to decide what to do next.
When All Might arrived at the scene, everything had already ended long ago. Izuku Midoriya had been taken to the hospital by his neighbors, and only the police, who had just arrived, were still questioning and investigating the residents.
When he woke up, it was already the next day. In a daze, Izuku Midoriya thought about what had happened the night before and gritted his teeth in hatred. Akaya Kaion's actions had completely enraged the boy.
Why did Akaya Kaion kidnap your mother?
This situation was quite perplexing. All Might really hadn't expected Akaya Kaion to do something like this, but there was no reason for it... Would the leader of the League of Villains really target a student like this? Moreover, Midoriya Izuku himself didn't have the strength to fight Akaya Kaion, so it seemed like this was a deliberate attempt to create an adversarial relationship.
Although he couldn't understand what was going on, All Might still earnestly assured Izuku Midoriya:
"Don't worry, Midoriya boy, I will definitely rescue your mother."
"No... All Might, you're no match for that guy."
Instead of trusting heroes as usual and entrusting his unsolvable problems to All Might, Izuku Midoriya stated very firmly:
"I will defeat Akaya Kaiun!"
Having already come to his senses, just like All Might fighting All For One, Izuku Midoriya doesn't care what grand goals the League of Villains has, or whether Kaiu Akaya is doing things that are beneficial to the world. Midoriya simply wants to defeat this annoying bastard.
