171. The game is over.

"Die! Die! Die!"

On the fourth mining planet in the Cardia system, Astronaut Weiss buried himself among corpses, howling at the seemingly endless green tide before him as he pulled the trigger.

He didn't know how long the battle had lasted, only that his platoon was almost wiped out.

Their political commissar was shot in the head by an orc sniper two hours earlier, and it seems that all of Wes's superiors are also dead.

They were all filled into this endless wheel of flesh and blood, devoured until nothing was left.

"Air raid! Prepare to take cover!!"

A sharp, piercing sound came through the radio. Without hesitation, Weiss grabbed his laser gun and slid down the trench, hiding his body among the corpses and bunkers. The series of roars and explosions around him almost made him deaf.

He didn't know how much time had passed, but the darkness before his eyes finally dissipated slowly. Weiss felt that his face was covered with scars from the rubble... After struggling to regain consciousness, he crawled out of the trench...

He wanted to pull the trigger and continue fighting, but the battlefield before him seemed to no longer need him.

Weiss stared blankly at the “supermen” who were falling from the sky. Some of them were Astartes, while others looked like ordinary people... but without exception, they all possessed power far beyond that of ordinary people.

Using only fists and feet, or some simple melee weapons, these superhumans wreaked havoc in the tsunami-like wave of green-skinned creatures.

A single punch could shatter a mountain or destroy a giant building.

With a single slash, the earth might be cleaved into a massive trench, deep enough to bury all those corpses.

Weiss let out a long breath, the tension from the fierce battle in the dark finally easing a little.

Only when his mind was completely occupied with things other than pulling the trigger did he finally regain the real feeling of being alive.

Then, he felt an instinctive fear, followed by tears of joy at being able to survive!

It's good to be alive...

Those martial gods arrived just in time. If it weren't for them, Weiss felt that even if he hadn't had his head cut off by those greenskins, he probably wouldn't have lasted much longer.

The God of War... possesses god-like power; I truly envy them.

Weiss felt incredibly tired in his eyes, and before falling into a deep sleep, he was thinking about a jumble of things.

How long has this war been going on? Weiss couldn't remember; it seemed like two planetary orbits had passed since he was transferred here from the Ghoul Sector along with the Astartes.

It could be even longer, perhaps because being so close to that huge rift makes time uncertain.

The Emperor's Abyss Expedition, with the Emperor's arrival and Abaddon's retreat, entered its next phase...

Just when everyone thought the Emperor had won and defeated the traitor from ten thousand years ago, and was preparing to enter the Eye of Terror to hunt him down, an unexpected event occurred.

Greenskins, a large number of greenskins suddenly flooded into the Cardia galaxy.

They bypassed the warp portal in a completely unreasonable manner...

They deployed themselves and their war machines onto the battlefield with no regard for casualties, and then launched a pointless attack on the Emperor and the Human Empire.

The logic? It seems that the Greenskins don't really need this kind of thing.

The war lasted longer than expected. Even after the Emperor led the expeditionary force and the remnants of the Cardiac forces to repel several waves of Greenskins, the war showed no signs of ending.

Even as pilgrims and loyalist armies from all directions arrived, the war showed no signs of ending.

Even when Regent Guilliman had drawn power from all over the galaxy and concentrated it here, the war still showed no sign of ending.

Although the Greenskins were known for being troublesome and numerous... now even an uneducated soldier like Wess knows that the number of Greenskins is far from right.

But as for the deeper reasons, Weiss no longer knew.

In this war, they killed countless Greenskins, and were killed by countless Greenskins in return.

They kept winning and kept losing, repeating the same cycle over and over again: taking down a planet only to have it destroyed again, failing in orbital bombardment, and then starting the process all over again.

Weiss couldn't bring himself to count the number of Greenskins who had died; he believed that if those corpses were still alive, they could fill the entire Cardia system.

But he could see the number of humans who had perished—far too many, hundreds of millions, or even more, every day, a massive number that Weiss couldn't comprehend, dying in and around the Cardia sector.

Even so, because the Emperor is here, countless empires still do their utmost to come here to seek the glory of fighting for the Emperor.

Weiss had never seen the Emperor; he had only seen these war gods who occasionally appeared on the battlefield and possessed power comparable to that of the gods.

These war gods are very powerful; they seem to be more than just Astartes—some were even former commoners.

When they are fortunate enough to be discovered to have awakened this power, they will become very powerful people.

Weiss envied them and felt an immense longing for that so-called magnetic field power.

However, whether it's the God of War or the Emperor, they are actually very far removed from Weiss.

But he had seen the emperor's radiance from afar, and he had also felt that cold warmth.

But without a doubt, such a great man is more worthy of humanity sacrificing everything for his ideals than any high lord or nobleman.

Perhaps he is a kind and generous person.

Just look at those Kriegs, these warriors are like the living dead...

After they rushed to the battlefield to fight for the Emperor and fought with all their might to reclaim a planet, the Emperor said he forgave them for all their mistakes.

He said he would bestow upon Krieg a great honor, that they were the pride of the Empire, the pinnacle of humanity, and that their sacrifice would be remembered by mankind forever, just as it was for the Cadias.

Weiss didn't know the story of Krieg, but he remembered that when the Kriegs who fought alongside him learned of this, they went crazy, shouting "Emperor!" and then charged into the endless green tide.

An emperor who is willing to forgive the sins of others must be compassionate.

So, when such an emperor says things that contradict what everyone else thinks is wrong, who is right?

For example, when cooperating with the Xenomorphs, Weiss's upbringing instilled in him the nobility of humanity and the baseness and depravity of the Xenomorphs.

Those alien races not recognized by humanity deserve to die; this is something every child in the Empire remembers.

But the Emperor allowed the Imperials to tolerate the aliens, even to cooperate with them, and to continue the war against these greenskins.

Which is right, the tradition passed down or the imperial edict?

Weiss had overheard the commissar and his superior arguing about it. He didn't understand the nonsense, but he was more inclined to believe what the Emperor said.

Because he could see the emperor on the battlefield, even from a distance, he could feel his radiance and sense him galloping across a battlefield that was countless times more dangerous than his own.

Compared to priests who locked themselves in high towers and extravagant nobles, Weiss was more willing to trust someone who fought alongside them.

The cold brought by the breaking of the atmosphere grew ever closer, and a strong drowsiness overwhelmed Weiss; he finally couldn't resist it any longer.

"Praise the Emperor..."

Weiss mumbled something, then fell into a deep sleep.

The number of green-skinned people was abnormally high, and the emperor knew perfectly well who was behind it.

Those four bastards in the Warp are using the Greenskins to slow down their progress, and for this they are even going so far as to exploit the Warp's ability to transcend time... to send those Greenskins who were once lost in the Warp to the Bonecrushers.

And it is clear that both the Bonebreakers and Mao Zedong's brother are very willing to accept this behavior that can increase the intensity of the war.

The Emperor was prepared for those four bastards to cause him trouble; in fact, he would only be worried if they did nothing at all.

However, despite this, he could still clearly sense that the four Chaos Gods were delaying something.

What kind of conspiracy are they plotting against me? Is it Peturabo? Or something else entirely?

Even the omnipotent emperor has things he doesn't know.

But regardless of this, from the start of the war until now, the Emperor has gradually taken control of the situation.

The Four Gods are stalling for time, but isn't the Emperor also stalling for time?

Meanwhile, their Eldar allies had cleared up their problems and were ready to join the war...

Guilliman's skillful command of the military forces was sufficient to ensure the stability of the region when Leon and the Emperor left the Cadia system, in addition to Chagatai or others...

With the Primarch present, safety was assured; Vulcan, along with his surplus Greenskins, went to fight the Tyranid swarm. And most importantly—

Those Blackrock fortresses have all been sent to the Gate of Cartier by the Silent King.

The black stone arrays located in various corners of the galaxy that have not yet been destroyed by Abaddon are already in a state of pre-launch, and together with the black stone devices left behind by the Necromancers themselves, they are ready to stitch together the Eye of Terror at any time.

The emperor knew that he could not, and should not, continue to wait.

It's time to put an end to this endless war in the galactic inferno!

That night, in the throne room of the massive Emperor Dream, the Lord of Humanity sat.

As the emperor's resting place, it was extremely simple. There were no other doors... and the only furniture was a round table and two high-backed chairs facing each other.

On the table is an octagonal granite and white marble slab, next to a light-colored wooden box, and placed within this geometric space...

Twenty chess pieces.

This is a game of Kingslayer, a game from ancient Terra, and long, long ago, only one person accompanied the Emperor in playing chess.

The emperor picked up a chess piece. They were all plain and unadorned, spindle-shaped, and a lifeless gray.

At one end of the table was a thin layer of crystal, each with the runes of the person who made the imprint marked on its back.

The emperor's hand stiffened slightly, for he knew that the only person he could play chess with was gone forever.

But weakness was an emotion that would never linger on the emperor for even a moment; he quickly began to move the chessboard himself.

The Emperor's hand began to place the pieces in the center of the chessboard... forming a cluster around a rectangular space the same size as a crystal card.

When everything was in place, the color of the chess pieces changed to dark blue.

His fingers set the chess piece down, and the moment he touched it, ripples spread across its surface, transforming it into a small statue.

It is made in an abstract way, like a child's mistaken sculpture, with a strange body and a human-like head.

His name is Perfection—meaning perfect, yet that perfection is a distorted form.

The emperor sighed softly, attempting to move the perfect one to a safe place—symbolized by a flawless diamond—

But soon, the Emperor's other hand revealed the "Ambition" card, a tiny but ugly flaw appearing deep within the gem.

"Won't anything change?" he murmured.

He picked up another piece, and eventually his twisting formed another combined shape.

The Emperor flipped over his crystal plate; it was the "Grand Visions" card.

“Iron General.” He placed the piece on the board and said his name. The Emperor was somewhat confused… because the piece represented something that shouldn’t be on the board.

He should belong to himself, not to the chessboard, but if the change has already occurred... then this piece has probably been castrated.

He picked up another chess piece and, once again, flipped open a crystal sheet. This time, what appeared was a Double-edged Blade.

He pressed down on the piece, and the next card revealed, "Bigbang," pushed it towards the Iron King.

The emperor remained silent for a long time. He slowly rose, and as he did so, the chessboard for regicide in front of him turned to ashes and vanished.

Yes, there's no need to think so much. His fate on the final path, whether good or bad, is ultimately in his own hands.

Is the game already decided? No, it's only decided if you believe in it.

Even if he could glimpse the future, the emperor no longer wanted to look—those who try to manipulate fate will eventually become the objects of fate's cruel jokes, and countless failures have already revealed this simple truth to the emperor.

Because he was one of those ridiculous losers.

The Emperor picked up his Imperial Sword, and all traces of weariness and despair were no longer visible on his face. The perfection of the Lord of Mankind was restored.

The throne room was pushed open, and Fugen knelt on one knee, surrounded by a group of royal guards, and said in a low voice...

"Your Majesty, everything is ready."

"Then let's begin," the Emperor said softly.

"Begin my final journey."

172. Embarking on the Ultimate Journey

Standard Terra Calendar 001.M42

Terra Palace is concluding its thirty-one-month-long period of administrative work...

Having secured twelve hours of rest for himself, Guilliman set aside the golden crown that represented regency power, inhaled some elixirs, and closed his eyes to savor the rare tranquility.

Everything is moving in a positive direction, and hope is gradually emerging.

Although his days as regent were filled with unbearable hardship, Guilliman was still very happy to see all of humanity in the galaxy gradually gain hope through his actions.

Of course, it would be even better if you could get more rest time for yourself.
